Re: Wiki Preview Live Stream (04 January 2021)

Watched it yesterday, and I'm really liking what I'm seeing. Mad respect to everyone involved, with a particular note of how in absolute awe I am of Terez's music cataloging. I've been anticipating this ever since the website fusion-dance happened and that non-functioning wiki button appeared, and w...

Re: Why is it that other anime geet pristine home/anniversary releases, yet the Dragon Ball franchise keeps getting ruin

The primary audience for the vast majority of other anime is enthusiasts. Dragon Ball (well, really just Z) is such a mass-market property that you can grab a season or two of it with your groceries at Walmart. That's the main difference.

Re: Funimation's 30th anniversary collectible home video release

After watching some kai, I think the big take away for me is the not FUNi's DNR but the fact they don't habe ''decent'' masters. Even namek suffers from crush in the namek ark. Earth colors (green and browns seem to have deep contrast to them). I agree. The conclusion I've come to about Funimation'...

Re: SAY-IN - SPECIAL BEAM CAN-IN - SUN GOKU - DESTRUCTO DISK | Why does Dragon Ball STILL suffer with these shortcomings

I think the problem comes down to there really being two separate shows here: the original DBZ that aired in Japan and Funimation's English adaption, which to be cheeky I'll call DuBZ. These two shows may share basically identical visual elements and overall plot, but boy, they sure do sound differe...

Re: So, did DBZ Movie 14, and everything after scratched your DB itch?

I had effectively "said my goodbyes" to Dragon Ball once I got to the end of GT, accepting the series as complete, so I really see all of this newer stuff as a bonus. Battle of Gods was a nice revisit with the characters I loved; Resurrection F was at least entertaining (if not much else);...

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?

I agree , I just don't think it's reliable as an only/permanent method, as things can change with it over night, both in terms of content and usage. It certainly isn't one, which is why I still purchase physical copies for the stuff I really care about (or when I find it for a good deal at a thrift...

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?

This is why I can never get behind streaming, you never know when your favorite show will be removed. I've also read that people are having issues with some services due to the amount of people using them now. Physical media is a one time payment and you own it forever. Fair points, but I also thin...

Re: What's your most recent Dragonball purchase?

After having them sit on my Amazon wish list for almost four years, I finally went ahead and grabbed all the Blue Bricks. And unlike the other times I spend perhaps too much money on home video, I'm actually going to use these soon, as the show is leaving Hulu. That really cut into my whole "in...

Re: The End of the Blue Bricks?

I just ordered all 5 sets off Amazon because of the show leaving Hulu, and until I saw this thread, I had no idea some were out of stock recently.

So, looks like the time of the Blue Bricks will continue for now.

Not my purchase, but when I came in to my office this morning, I found this on my desk with a Christmas card from my boss:

I think it will go well on my desk with the DBS Future Trunks plush I found at a Goodwill a while back.

Re: In retrospect, was the (US) Dragon Box a 'monkey paw' release?

It just goes to show you Toriyama did something amazing that even in such an altered and cheep state, DBZ still became a success in the US. This. So much this. Funimation's changes couldn't hide what made DBZ truly special. The dub doesn't have the fandom it does because the changes somehow made DB...

funrush wrote: Mon Dec 16, 2019 10:02 pm That DBZ isn't on any of the regular streaming services here in the U.S. It's on Funimation but I'm not getting that for one show.
What makes it even weirder is that Dragon Ball and GT are on Hulu.

Re: In retrospect, was the (US) Dragon Box a 'monkey paw' release?

Are we really going to regard a crappy dub as a piece of history? Absolutely. There's a difference between artistic merit and historical importance. Perhaps this is just my time lurking around the Lost Media community speaking, but I think we should err on the side of preserving what we've got. No ...

Re: Will Toonami survive without new Dragon Ball Content?

They should simultaneously stream Toonami online along with the TV airing. That way, those who have cut the cord can support Toonami if they want to & get their views counted on top of that since TV viewing requires an Nelson box. They already do a livestream, it's just that to access it you ha...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Only thing that sucks about this release having high resale value is that you're not actually getting anything worth the high price. Like, the Dragon Boxes have retained their value by virtue of being a competent release of the series in remastered form, not just the scarcity of them. Which is why ...

Re: It's actually amazing that DBZ was successful on Japanese TV

Metamoss, I'm not going to take it point by point as it's a massive waste of both our times. We're never going to agree, especially if you claim someone pointing out a misuse of a word is "appeal to authority". That's not a logical fallacy. If you point out why someone is wrong, that's no...

Re: It's actually amazing that DBZ was successful on Japanese TV

How was that appeal to authority? I haven't argued on the basis of credentials. I've given an argument about what I think are the essentials and examples. This is such an odd attempt to turn the argument back onto me. Arguing from authority isn't just credentials, though. How is saying someone is m...

Re: It's actually amazing that DBZ was successful on Japanese TV

Against my better judgement, I'm going to bring this back up to say... Here's the problem with many terms, people misuse them all the time even if they should know better. Case in point, how many times are series revivals called reboots even by people in the media? If the new version of Swamp Things...
