Re: "Live Action Dragon Ball Z Movie"

Look at a movie like Deadpool 1, which had plenty of high-octane action but actually had a pretty modest budget of just under $60 million. If we're talking Dragon Ball, it doesn't have to be excessive. I realize, but Deadpool is an R-rated film. Dragon Ball wouldn't have the shock value of the R-ra...

Re: "Live Action Dragon Ball Z Movie"

Why does the budget have to be big from the jump? Because of the type of film it would need to be. Martial arts stunts, heavy special effects and superhero spectacle are what general audiences would expect from it, which usually pushes it into the 80 to 100 million dollar range if they're taking it...

Re: "Live Action Dragon Ball Z Movie"

Nah. I can understand wanting to see DB's story in order as a die-hard fan but if you've paid any attention to Hollywood, you'd know it would never go down that way. Realistically, they'd only be shooting themselves in the foot starting with a lukewarm opener like the Red Ribbon Army. If you've only...

Re: Dragon Ball Kai not streaming anywhere?

There's evidence to suggest Funimation did grab the NA streaming rights for the earlier series, which they've exploited in various ways over the years. But I suspect those agreements were made while Toei didn't fully grasp the importance of streaming in the coming years and didn't see any reason to ...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

We don't represent the property so Chorus isn't going to accept our money, and I wouldn't trust a fan to set up any fundraiser for obvious reasons.

An official sponsored deal might have worked years ago if Bandai or Toei had paid for it but I can't see anyone else doing so, especially now.

Re: Would a “true” faithful dub ever be possible?

Interestingly Barry Watson's name is no where to be seen on the credits for the Pioneer movie dubs. With regards to the plans for a full uncut dub with the Ocean Studios cast, I'd have to imagine since Funimation were still a new company they simply decided it wasn't worth the investment, so they c...

Re: Can Dragon Ball Work In Live-Action?

It won't surprise me if Toriyama is like "I will direct, write, and produced a live action movie myself". It would be interesting to see if he can pull off a full length movie on his own. That would never happen, not unless he pulled a George Lucas and self-funded the film himself. No stu...

Re: Can Dragon Ball Work In Live-Action?

It can be done, but realistically I don't think western Hollywood is going to be a natural fit for it. The budget and long term commitment required to "do it right" would be pretty huge and I think at this point, only the Asian film industry will treat the brand with the kind of respect it...

Re: Would a “true” faithful dub ever be possible?

I thought there was newer evangelion stuff that didnt get dubbed by AVD before netflix took over, and they wanted everything to have the same dub cast. Ether way netflix's dub is better But if not then sorry for pushing misinformation. You're thinking of the Funimation dubs of the Evangelion Rebuil...

Re: Would a “true” faithful dub ever be possible?

Were the only re-dubs netflix did of shows that didnt have a complete existing dub? Of the ones that I'm aware of, that hasn't been the case. The original Evangelion series and movies were fully dubbed years prior by ADV. Netflix either didn't want to use the previous dub or were unable to due to r...

Re: Would a “true” faithful dub ever be possible?

Sadly I don't see it happening. A big streaming company like Netflix might have a chance if they could somehow wrangle the rights to stream the original series from either Toei or Funi and create their own dub rather than licensing the pre-existing one from Funimation but that's highly unlikely give...

Re: Funi's Kai dub and accuracy

A lot of great points made in this thread. Every time I've tried watching the Kai dub I'm often taken out of the experience with Funimation's questionable attempts at humour. Jokes can sometimes be tone-deaf to what's going on within the scene, such as - off the top of my head - when Cell delivers t...

Re: Would you Have Auditioned for Super?

I think I'd have an existential crisis if I found myself working for Funimation but it would be interesting being behind the scenes at the very least. I don't think anyone should aspire to work there as a voice actor other than a starting opportunity as they apparently don't pay actors very much (un...

Re the music: I've tried explaining myself multiple times and we're just going in circles at this point so I won't bother responding to that topic any longer. I would assume that has more to do with CanCon. They’re not exactly avoiding royalties when the Wasserman music is still playing in the backg...

Re: What English speaking Actress Could Pull Off Playing Adult Goku in an Official Dub?

Barbara Goodson could have probably done a decent job, but it would have still sounded a little young and more like a teenage boy even at her deepest but it might have worked with Goku's goofier personality if the dub was faithful. Of course, nowadays it would take some getting used to but if it was...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

But, again, to what benefit is it for Fukunaga to straight up say they did not like Wasserman music? Why do you have a hard time believing that part isn’t true? There’s plenty of ways he could have spun it. “focus groups didn't like the music” “we were looking at fan input and the music wasn’t well...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

Sure when it comes to things like “we think the new cast is very talented” that’s some PR nonsense I’m sure but when it comes to not agreeing with Saban’s over the top censorship demands or preferring to work with the more lax Cartoon Network there’s no reason to believe he isn’t being one hundred ...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

Didn’t Kelly specify Batman Beyond? Batman TAS had a way more 1940s noir style soundtrack making it way more stylistic and unique than anything Funimation bothered with Yes. I'm referring to Batman Beyond, I already mentioned it by name and didn't feel like typing it out every time after that. I th...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

I remember that comment. It’s interesting though because Batman Beyond would have only been around for a month when season 3 started production. If Batman Beyond was kicking their ass in ratings its because season 1 and 2 have been playing for like the 5th fucking time on Toonami by the time Batman...

Re: Ocean Studios' "Dragon Ball Kai" Dub Turns 10; Still Unreleased

Funimation's reasons for the Kikuchi tracks being absent from Z seem to flip flop depending on who's being asked. If I recall correctly, Sabat's excuse in at least one of his interviews was that the music tracks had degraded and were of such poor sound quality that they couldn't be used, which I per...
