Re: WIth the success of the Sonic movie, is it time for Hollywood to revisit Dragon Ball?
Definitely television. Not only because it suits the manga/anime format better, but also because any attempt to do a film version would probably try and make it too family friendly. Don't want to see no watered down Roshi or lose the brutal violence and gore.

Re: Does the lack of diversity in sub and dub bother you?
Moe and Chief Wiggum sound almost exactly the same, and Willie sounds like a Scottish Homer. I remember Family Guy making a joke about Peter's Father and the Doctor sounding the same, with them acknowledging they hadn't shared a scene before and that there were only so many voices in the world. I p...

Don't be sorry, you didn't misread anything. I've seen these kinds of comments from Adamant in the past, and you are right to check him on his tone.pixie_misa wrote: ↑Fri Apr 15, 2022 6:09 pm
I'm sorry, I must've massively misread your tone earlier.
My apologies for that lashing out, it wasn't deserved.

Re: DragonballZ Rewatch, Week 420 - Dragonball Evolution (April Fool)
GT doesn’t exactly leave the door open for a sequel. It has just about the most definitive ending you could ask for in Dragon Ball. What would a sequel even be about? The adventures of Goku Jr., Vegeta Jr. and Puck? The sequel would be set before the 100 year timeskip. Like maybe five, ten years af...

Re: Dragon Ball Z - Unfortunate name
A symbol is a lot more specific than a letter. Nobody is gonna associate the letter Z with anything but the letter Z There are all types of symbols. Letters are one type. And clearly the letter Z is associated with more than just the letter itself. Toriyama chose the letter because it represents fi...

Re: Dragon Ball Z - Unfortunate name
The OP has a point. Letters are symbols, and like all symbols they can carry multiple meanings and represent multiple things. Someone mentioned the Swastika earlier, which is just one example.
Although, I doubt that it would be much of a problem in this particular case.

That's because DBS is not DB/Z/GT.super michael wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 7:25 am How the Z fighters used to use the Dragon Balls in DB, DBZ and GT is way different than how the Z fighter use the Dragon Balls in DBS.
The poster above has the right idea.

"Z" is a cool letter to use. They also could have done "Dragon Ball 2", or "New Dragon Ball", and I would have liked it.

Re: Asian characters in Dragon Ball
Because I think that it should be obvious to begin with that no one is considering anything about rare genetic phenotypes and such, neither we or the author. It's an irrational assumption and expectation, and a dramatic leap in logic in my view. Maybe it's just me, but it seems far beyond the realm...

Re: Asian characters in Dragon Ball
They're Japanese characters living in Japan ergo they're not being drawn as caucasian. You can draw anything in any way you want to. If you're writing about Japanese characters living in Japan, but happen to draw them as Caucasian, then that's what you're doing. We know that they have Caucasian fea...

Re: Asian characters in Dragon Ball
If they're Japanese but they inexplicably have "non-Japanese hair/eye colors", such as blonde hair/blue eyes, then surely that itself is "fantastical"? Of course it is, it's a cartoon. Manga/anime style can include a mixture of real world and fantasy elements. Then again, if we ...

Yeah, I think I enjoyed Sabat the most when he would do the narration. It suited his voice better.

Re: Asian characters in Dragon Ball
But the point is its anime where hair color and eye color is anything goes. Neither Sailor Moon nor Naruto's mangaka seriously went "hmmmm I'm drawing my Japanese characters like they're Caucasian!" To argue they're being drawn as white people because of their blonde hair is ignoring that...

Re: Asian characters in Dragon Ball
What are these alleged "Caucasian features"? I was primarily referring to the blonde hair and blue eyes with regards to Sailor Moon and Naruto. Which means absolutely nothing in series where characters have natural blue and pink hair. The blue and pink hair does not negate the blonde hair...

I like "Burdok", because I think it gets the point across well enough, and because I think that "Burduck" and "Burdack" look a bit silly. I don't mind "Burdock", because of how uncommon it apparently is in relation to gobou , and also because of how similar - ...

Re: Does the lack of diversity in sub and dub bother you?
This is obviously minutia but I always figured Funi deliberately gave Garlic and Pilaf the same voice. For the Vancouver cast you had Don Brown voicing Pilaf for the BLT dub and Garlic jr for the Pioneer dub of Dead Zone so there’s certainly a precedent. Also Shigeru Chiba who voices Pilaf replaces...

What white person do you know has natural blue hair?!?!? I wasn't referring to the characters with blue or pink hair, just characters like Usagi and Naruto with blatant Caucasian features. Although I'm sure you could make the argument for those others also being drawn White. They're not causasian f...

Re: Asian characters in Dragon Ball
They also have characters with pink hair and blue hair and green hair and eyes far wider than any human including a white person on cocaine has. It's just a stylistic decision. They're not caucasian features no matter how bad you want to pretend they are. Caucasian features are Caucasian features, ...

Re: Asian characters in Dragon Ball
n DB, most of the main characters are drawn with the physical appearance of Asians (broadly speaking), whereas in Sailor Moon, Naruto and other series the characters are drawn with White features or ambiguous features. ..Still unclear about what's the distinction you're making. What is exactly the ...
