Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
Kai's only saving grace, imo, is the English dub. I'd rather stick with the original Z for the Japanese audio track.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
Well, that's why they keep producing these poor quality releases. People buy them.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
If FUNi could give us a 4x3 AR DBZ release then everyone would be satisfied with that. Not counting the Rock the Dragon set, though, FUNimation hasn't released unremastered footage since the Ultimate Uncut Special Editions. I don't know that I'd be satisfied with 4:3 Season Blu-rays, but I guess it...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
Our only hope is that the success of these Season Blu-rays will be enough for a Dragon Box rerelease or a return to the Level remastering. It's a long shot, but if that doesn't do it, then we might be stuck with these widescreen bastardizations... I mean, modernizations.

Well, if you don't want to see people criticizing the release, you don't have to read this topic.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
The thing is, though, it's all about personal preference. I think the OBs have better color, and despite being blurry, they still have better detail than the Season BDs. The Season BDs are sharp and have vibrant colors (too bright for me), but they have issues of their own with the grain removal and...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
Well, I'll try to keep an open mind if the set falls into my lap. Can't say I'd spend any money on such a release, though. Sure, everything has flaws, these new sets just have too many.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
I think I've seen all that I need. That shaking as well as the streaks of grain appearing in the picture is worse, imo, than the disappearing lines. At this point, I'd recommend the OBs over these.
They're even cheaper.

Yeah, that shot looks better on the OB in every way except for the blurriness.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
It's just funny how Dragon Ball Z is one of the only anime with releases geared towards the uninformed.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
That's what I'll choose to believe. There has never been a break from DBZ releases since the anime became a thing in the US. If they don't want two concurring releases to compete, they'll have to do something different... or give the series a break.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
If they were remastering the footage in its 4:3 aspect ratio, would they then exclusively release a cropped product? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I hesitate to consider this release better [than the OBs] when we're still getting cropped garbage. I guess, in a way, it could be considered b...

It'd at least be the best we'd get out of FUNimation (Steve Franko's raw transfer).

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
... if the purchasing audience is savvy, they will notice and raise a huge stink about DVNR). The average DBZ fan is not savvy and will eat this up. Furthermore, the average user rating on Amazon will be up to around 4 stars in the next few months, and it'll be just like the Orange Bricks. Most peo...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
Yeah, my problem with this release is that people who don't know any better will pick it up, and if they were just a little more informed, they might have realized that this is not a quality release. Basically, FUNimation is taking advantage of their naive fans because most anime series don't requir...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
Maybe it's petty, but it's hard for me to take a review seriously when it's that poorly written. And one positive review from a guy with the Dragon Boxes doesn't prove that everyone loves the new remaster.

I wonder how that shot of the Saibaimen turned out in the final product. Example: http://imageshack.com/a/img802/9387/p16d.png
That, along with glowing Piccolo were some of the worst out of the initial trailer.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" Coming To Blu-ray (Updated 12/31
Well, in some ways they're better. I don't really consider it an upgrade, though, and will wait (perhaps forever) for at least an average release.
