Re: Another live action thread (yes, I know)
It might be worth noting that DBE was a slapdash production that Fox put together specifically because the rights were set to expire if they didn’t get a movie into production. Plus, I’d argue the 2000s wasn’t really an ideal time to adapt something as out there as Dragon Ball anyway. Even superhero...

Re: One Piece Remake, fans are so lucky...
I’m late to the discussion, but I will echo the sentiment that doing a remake of a series that’s currently still ongoing makes no sense. The One Piece manga isn’t even over yet. There’s no need for this. As for Dragon Ball, I wouldn’t be opposed to an updated remake, but I don’t know if it would be ...

Re: A new Budokai Tenkaichi has been announced
I'll admit, It's a combination of nostalgia and potential. There is definitely some faults to BT2's story, but if they veer it more towards Budokai 3 as well as fleshing out the story in a non-repetitive way, I think it could be pretty fun. Hell, maybe they could even bring back the chase sections ...

Re: A new Budokai Tenkaichi has been announced
I still don’t really get why people prefer the story of BT2 over BT3. Sure, it’s long, but it’s also really repetitive. You fight the same enemies over and over. Even the free roaming map is just a shallow copy of the one from Budokai 3 , and most of the “cutscenes” are just characters standing arou...

Re: Any FUNi dubisms you still find yourself saying from time to time?
Does ‘Bulma’ count? I know the word is written on her clothes in the original manga and the anime, but I’m pretty sure that’s more the result of Toriyama not being fluent in English than him actually naming the character that. ‘Blooma’ makes more sense in terms of the pun, but I can’t bring myself t...

Re: Goku letting Vegeta go is a very touching scene
I’d argue the music choice doesn’t really work with the scene. It’s too sappy and sentimental. In fact, it ironically works better with FUNimation’s rewrite, and it wasn’t even written with that music in mind.

Re: RIP Pauline Newstone
Airazor was definitely her most well known role, but as the initial English voice for Freeza (the episodes where she appeared as Freeza predated the North American release of Final Bout), she certainly left a footprint for the English speaking side of the Dragon Ball franchise.
RIP

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
If this spell making them kids returns them to the power levels they had as kids, which seems to be the case, Can you elaborate on why you think that's the case? The way it is described, it sounds like the show will rely less on ki blasts and transformations, and Goku is back to using the Power Pol...

But it did at least slightly foreshadow the Shadow Dragons. It ends with a closeup of one of earth's dragonballs, which we see again in the next arc except it's cracked this time. It also had Piccolo dying which ended up being crucial in the next arc as he gets Goku out of Hell. In a scenario that ...

Re: Was Dragon Ball GT intended to be longer (or shorter) than it actually was?
A common talking point that’s gone around for the longest time is that GT was intended to end after episode 40, but that Toei extended the series for another 24 episodes to coincide with the release of Final Bout. I have no clue if that’s accurate, but episode 40 certainly does neatly wrap up the in...

Re: Your opinion for the original 3 Dragon Ball movies.
The first movie is the weakest of the bunch, but as a whole, they’re a fun little reinvention of the early arcs of the series that take some creative turns. I much prefer Chaozu in the movie over Chaozu in the actual series, and the campy horror elements of the second movie are pretty fun too. It’s ...

Re: Should Universe 7 Saiyans get revived along with the planet
I don't think it would be a good idea considering that most of them are not good. King Vegeta was just as evil as Freeza himself. Frankly, I’m not sure that the Saiyans being evil would matter much to Goku and Vegeta. Goku in particular doesn’t seem to have any problem allowing Freeza to run amok i...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
Even if you want to argue that the DBS anime was not meant to be the “main product,” I don’t understand how anyone could suggest that it was adapting the manga. It clearly wasn’t. The anime and the manga were both adapting Akira Toriyama’s outlines, and gave their own respective spins on them. That’...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
I still can’t wrap my head around why people are arguing that this must take place before Super. What would be the point of that? I can’t think of any purpose that going backwards in the timeline would serve. Why bother? If you want to argue that they’d do that for the sake of “power scaling,” the s...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
I’ve had my doubts that there’s any plan to kill of Freeza yet again after the Broly movie. That film seemed to pretty much cement him as the Dragon Ball equivalent of a villain from an 80s Saturday morning cartoon, and those guys almost never receive definitive ends. It is weird to think that Freez...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
I don’t know what the discussions regarding the timeline are about. I would’ve assumed this is meant to take place post- Super Hero at the very least. I can’t think of any worthwhile reason to go backwards in the story. Anyway, I think I’ll take this over bringing back the DBS anime. DBS has long si...

The leaks were true after all. Not surprised.
I would compare this more to Muppet Babies and all those other “baby” spin-offs that were prominent back in the day.

Re: Toei's fixation on Goku being the strongest
I don’t get the impression they’re particularly obsessed with making Goku “the strongest.” Goku defeats the villain in most of the Z movies because he’s the main character of the series, and the movies were meant to be short little representations of what Dragon Ball was all about. Gohan defeats Boj...
