Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Before the dub the U.S Dragon Ball fandom was practically nonexistent. Honestly it feels like some of you are using your hatred of the dub to not give Funi any credit for their role in popularizing DBZ in America. There are people on this very site (including moderators) who prove that this is not ...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
That's why you need to read and look at the PRE 2000's detail there. It means that any dub of Dragon Ball (If given a favorable timeslot) can succeed. Funimation or no Funimation. My point is that Dragon Ball didn't start in the West with the dub. It started in the late 80s/early 90s, with fansubs.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
It almost seems that people forgot that in times pre 2000s what was in available TV channel was popular, not the other way around. I see that in Europe where popular TV stations imprinted franchises into whole generations. What was obscure stayed obscure and what was watched in every home never lef...

Re: Live-action One Piece - would you like DB characters to appear?
From Oda - "In the past twenty years, there's been a lot of talk about making live-action adaptions. About three years ago, I decided to take a step forward with the live-action adaptation, there were many twists and turns, and I found good partners. And now on the day of the 20th anniversary ...

Re: Inconsistencies created by filler
So? It's still there. My point is that it doesn't affect the plot, I'm not saying to make changes in you head. By your logic, the Cell arc can't be "canon" because Trunks says that #19 & #20 were the Artificial Humans of the past, while we later learn that they're #17 & #18, becau...

Re: How do you define a good dub?
1. The dialogue must be translated as faithfully as possible, within reason. Name changes are allowed if they're solely making it more understandable, and not taking away from the spirit of the original name. You don't want to get too literal and say "Jinzoningen Juuhachigou" (which is inc...

Re: If at all, how did Linkin Park affect your experience with Dragon Ball (or anime overall)?
I have no love for Linkin Park. I got into DB through Kai, and was spared the terrible AMVs. Linkin Park does not, nor has it ever had, affected DB for me.

Re: GT or Super? Which one is the best?
They're both hit and miss, but GT hits more than it misses, while Super misses more than it hits. Super can't have any massive paradigm shifts because it's set itself in the timeskip, whereas GT didn't restrict itself like that. The events in GT can actually have consequences, whereas with Super th...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
The only aspect of "power" that matters is that X character is stronger than Y, which is just consistency. Power levels, as in numbers to represent how strong someone is, were never relevant, and part of the point of the Namek arc was that power levels are meaningless and don't reflect ac...

Re: Is Dragon Ball GT canonical?
I like to think that some form of GT happens in Super's continuity, and some form of Super happens in GT's continuity. As it stands, GT cannot happen exactly like how it was portrayed onscreen unless... 1. The Pilaf Gang return to being old 2. Kibito and Shin fuse again 3. Everyone loses god ki 4. A...

Re: What's so bad about 'Bulla?'
Why was Karin changed to Korin in the dub? My only guess is Karin sounds too feminine (similar to the name Karen for a girl in real life), but Korin is more masculine, or something. I think in this case it may have been to preserve the pun (Korin sounds like corn, while Karin doesn't). But that's n...

Re: What's so bad about 'Bulla?'
I really don't mind "Launch". Toriyama is on record as saying something along the lines of "I can't remember whether it's supposed to be Launch or Lunch anymore." Essentially, in that case, it's a valid translation.I
But "Bulla" makes no sense.
