Because the mass market would have eaten it up regardless, and some of us would have bought it in hopes of it funding the next better release. To keep getting out money. The Dragon Boxes were for a niche audience. They didn't have to give it to us.

If they didn't feel sorry about the Orange Brick outrage, would they have given us the Dragon Boxes? Or would they have given us an incrementally better remaster to flip us the bird?

In other words, there ain't no Dragon Box at the end of the tunnel this time.

How I'm reading it is that they're purposely putting out bad products now because they want money. Whereas before, they gave us the Dragon Boxes as an apology for the Orange Bricks.

I wouldn't blame him if that's the case. That orange brick extra was pretty much there to throw him under the bus.

Maybe next we'll get video of a drunk Chris Sabat recalling stories from his voice sessions. In all seriousness, though, I'd be curious to hear someone talk about the replacement score. But anyone who was actually involved in the process is probably long gone at this point. Or how about a new remast...

There's honestly no reason for FUNimation to release a new 16:9 remaster unless it's using the Japanese broadcast audio. But I guess they gotta make back their Sgt. Frog and Level E money.

People complained about the Orange Bricks having oversaturated colors, but these are even worse in that department. I guess all this time, the saturation just wasn't intense enough on those bricks. I don't blame FUNimation for cancelling the Level sets, but just because those weren't viable doesn't mean this new release is okay. I understand that FUNimation's masters are of low quality, but I really wish they'd stop with the redundant releases.

Casual fans were never going to pick it up despite the marketing. Too pricey compared to the orange bricks. The Kanzenshuu community is also a small one. We couldn't have sustained the release, even if we were fearing its cancellation.

But most fans of the series would have been buying what we had been getting prior to the Level sets, because why would FUNimation give us something better?

I'm not even sure how much of an exaggeration that was, if at all. By my count, the orange bricks, dragon boxes, movies, TV specials, blue bricks, green bricks, and Kai would be at least in the realm of $800. The Level sets probably would have taken that over one grand.

I think it's basically a last ditch effort to milk Dragon Ball Z. If it doesn't sell at dirt cheap prices, then they can't really milk it anymore.

The Orange Bricks weren't without fault, but they were the first consistent Z release and it had the English audio track with replacement music, which is how most of the US fanbase wants to experience it. This release, on the other hand, isn't bringing anything new to the table.
