Re: Favorite spaceship?

The only one I'm really a fan of is the GT spaceship. The others are fine, but none of them strike me as stand-out spaceship designs like the Enterprise or the Imperial Star Destroyer. In fact, I'm not sure any of these are even close to Toriyama's best vehicle designs. Oh, and I'm sorry, but the A...

Re: So I rewatched Dragon Ball GT

I feel sometimes there is anime canon and manga canon. I try not to think about canon much because it usually is contradictory and an overall mess. Yes I do agree we can consider two levels of canon as in popular culture the anime's universe developed by the Toei is at least as much important than ...

Re: So I rewatched Dragon Ball GT

Cheers Attitudefan I really appreciate your explanation and to be honest I barely noticed it, for original DB I set a rule to myself that whenever there is a contradiction between the manga and the anime the manga has the supreme authority cheers lol You're very welcome! :) Fair enough. I feel some...

Re: So I rewatched Dragon Ball GT

Just so you know PsionicWarrior, that Vegeta's hair tended to be Dark Brown in the painted cels for DBZ. Some studios opted for a very dark blue but his hair colour was always a shade lighter than black. Raditz always had dark blue hair, Yamcha sometimes was given dark blue hair as well, and Vegeta ...

Re: So I rewatched Dragon Ball GT

Personally, the problem for GT on it's original airing was the art direction it took. It looked so out of place compared to its predecessor(s). On a second viewing, I feel the same problem. For a sequel, it looks farther removed from the source it came from. Not saying that this can be a bad thing, ...

Re: Old artstyle vs New Artstyle 2.0

Woah, the new designs look great. Goku looks especially old school, which I dig heavily!!

Freeza's eyes look a bit strange in the more forward picture of him but looks normal when shown in profile.

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 6/4/18!)

If we're talking about character's intelligence, I can't wait until we get to Tenshinhan with his Shin Kikoho, which if could stop Cell in his tracks, could have done reasonable damage if not destroy 17 or 18. Woah! Good point. I guess Tenshinhan is disliked too much to do something truly standout ...

Re: Old artstyle vs New Artstyle 2.0

No problem man! :) I have drawn Dragon Ball for yeaaaars and did minor animations too. (Nothing is on the internet... hopefully that will change). It was something I came to realize when colouring while looking at reference pictures years ago. I kinda like that the wristbands are different as it mak...

Thing is, Goku's wristbands have always been a lighter blue than his undershirt.

Re: MistareFusion's Dragon Ball Dissection! (Updated 4/16/18!)

@GafferTape I was just re-watching the Cell Arc Part 3 dissection, and your thoughts on why Goku is looked on by a portion of the audience (and why the anime staff depicted him rightous like Superman) made me think back to Goku's early character development. When he is given the cloud to ride on, he...

I like that Vegeta has a bit of the small chubby look from the Saiyan arc mixed with the Cell arc look.

Re: What is your favorite gi for Son Goku?

Minor question: when it comes to the 23d-Namek gi, do you prefer the reddish overshirt with black undershirt and belt? Or is it orange overshirt with blue undershirt and belt? I actually like the Black/Red design a lot. I also love the Orange/Blue design as well of course. One thing I love about th...

Re: Old artstyle vs New Artstyle 2.0

Wow, those later Maeda Minoru character models got bad fast. It's no wonder he left the series. Gokuu's face looks all kinds of weird and his arms and torso look they would be hard to bend in animation. He really did struggle with the square designs. He is a master of 80s Toriyama. Sad to see him go.

Re: What is your favorite gi for Son Goku?

23rd TB, Saiyan, and Namek arc gi is the best. A design that is balanced. The symbol really really makes it iconic. Much prefer the smaller collar cut to the shirt as well. The best really. I really dislike the giant sash and low V-cut in his late DBZ gi. The blue (and yellow) never looked good on G...

Re: Old artstyle vs New Artstyle 2.0

I've also never been a fan of the extremely low cut the orange shirt has, and vastly prefer the more restrained high collar cut seen in that first Maeda example. I also don't like when the pecs look like slabs of flesh peeking out above the undershirt; the collarbone feels more realistic and makes ...

Re: Dead Zone - first installment weirdness (music cues, ending theme, nyoibo)

The character designs also still look much more Dragon Ball than they do Z, with just a bit more edge and grit to the line work. The characters also look exactly as they do in the Chala opening, which is pretty cool. I only wish Yamcha and Tenshinhan were there. I also really like the fact that ki b...

Re: Old artstyle vs New Artstyle 2.0

Masaki Satou did not want to work on Super because he felt the designs and the plot was a bit strange. He has posted some recent Dragon Ball sketches and he is still awesome! Him and Maeda and their team were truly fantastic and respected the works of the original manga. A video in French by DBTimes...

Re: Old artstyle vs New Artstyle 2.0

I know you were referring to that particular design, which is why I decided to post the Toriyama drawing Maeda was referencing when making the design. I am also quite tired of people who seem to forget how Dragon Ball used to look like pre-Buu arc, or how Toriyama’s manga looks. It’s incredible how...

Re: The issue regarding power scaling (and the Earthlings)

Gohan was in the lowest tier of fighters until, for plot convenience, he was better than everyone at the end of the Cell arc. Gohan had the highest raw power of any fighter when he was introduced. It’s suggested that when Saiyans and humans mix blood they create formidable offspring. A little train...

Re: The issue regarding power scaling (and the Earthlings)

The earthlings had major problems trying to keep up with Goku when he was just a kid being trained on earth. Now he's being trained by the likes of Whis and has 8 transformations, there's really no way fro them to be in that same field as he and Vegeta are. Depends on what the writer really wants. ...
