A bit too young. Always hate when people die in their 70s.

Re: Are Saiyan near-death power-ups good or bad in DBZ?
Yusuke's demon lineage wasn't a deux ex machina. It was said from the beginning that he was special, we just didn't know exactly why. It also meshes with his sense of detachment. He doesn't manhandle Sensui until his ancestor takes him over and leads to him going to demon world where he eventually ...

Re: Are Saiyan near-death power-ups good or bad in DBZ?
I dunno if Deus Ex Machinas are even necessarily a bad thing. If they're used too liberally, yeah, they can come across as poor/cheap writing, or remove the sense of tension because you know the heroes will always be bailed out by the author somehow, but used in moderation they can just be a cool pl...

Re: How would you rank the 4 anime finales?
Goku tells Chi-chi that he'll visit 'sometimes' before leaving with Uub, so I prefer to think that he does so frequently (like every week or two at least). That makes the ending go down much easier with me than if it's basically full-blown abandonment and he only visits on rare occasions. So, from b...

Re: Would you still like Dragon Ball if it hadn’t been retooled into a martial arts story?
It's entirely possible that I would have learned of Dragon Ball even in this alternate universe. I became a Dragon Quest fan years before I got into Dragon Ball, and I got a fair bit of enjoyment out of the Go Go Ackman Super Famicom trilogy that same year (1999) as well. It would definitely pale in...

Re: Is Bulma immoral
To actually go back and answer the original question, Bulma gets nicer with age. 16 year old Bulma of the very beginning has "rotten teenager" as one of the most basic and fundamental foundations of her character (in a very endearing way that just makes her entertaining, of course). The 17...

Re: Is Bulma immoral
I think it's entirely possible that being a conqueror was seen as attractive in medieval times by many people. It was a colder and crueler world. ("lol people fighting to the death in colosseums is fun") In ancient and medieval times, it was common for people to love their king or sultan o...

Re: Is Bulma immoral
He'd just taken part in the genocide of the Namekians and openly bragged abut it with a smirk on his face. Bulma literally heard him say it. He killed them within that week, maybe even a few days prior. At best her desire to get with him was selfish. It doesn't speak well of her character. That was...

Re: It’s literally such a SHAME how LAME and WASTED Videl became.
Staying far away from the debate, but I do like Julie's Indiana Videl idea and think it would work well as something that's mentioned as a side-note during the 28th Budokai vignette or something. It's unique and fun and since Dragon Ball dabbles in a lot of different genres anyway wouldn't seem out-...

Yeah, couldn't possibly agree more with Julie. I'd use my wish to erase all disease from the world without a second thought, and there's zero doubt in my mind that it would never be a negative thing in even a single way.

Huh. I thought he proposed to her, she accepted, and then she rode away with some other guy right afterwards. It's been a long time.

Re: Age 889 & thoughts on Goku Jr. era
My only issue with it is that it's 100 years later. There's no clean way to envision what happened. There's no way that Goku Jr. is Pan's actual grandson -- maybe her great-grandson if she and Goku Jr.'s parent were older when having kids. But, there are questions of what happened to his parents an...

Re: Goku ranked Numero Uno idiot hero
If anything Shonen protagonists after Goku have done is tone up the stupidity, so this doesn't strike me as a particularly accurate placement. Goku as an adult (in the original series at least) isn't conventionally dumb anymore, either. Yeah, Goku as an adult is pretty simple and straightforward, b...

300? Wtf
That's an impressive high score for anyone, never mind a 24 year old who's probably only had about 5-6 years to be submitting manga.

Re: It’s literally such a SHAME how LAME and WASTED Videl became.
Yeah, I agree that there's not really any way to realistically make Videl powerful enough to be relevant during the two days the Buu arc proper entails. None of the power-ups featured in the series give that huge or rapid of a power boost; they're more along the lines of characters becoming several ...

Re: Shunsuke Kikuchi has passed away
89 is a ripe old age to live to. I'm unlearned, when was the last time he was composing music, assuming he wasn't doing it anymore? Might've gotten the answer by now elsewhere, but he last did compositions in 2017, the year he turned 86 (part of a trend where people are, of course, being active for...
