Re: Is DBS: Broly overrated?

Obviously it isn't overrated, it's one of the single most gorgeous looking thing post-revival Dragon Ball has produced. A lot of people here seem to be viewing that as a side-thing, and not, y'know, the thing? A film is the sum of its parts, and a lot of the parts used to make this film are really,...

Re: If a new series were to be developed, Toei should go for a different approach

Not sure what you mean by this. Maybe not changing rules, but retcons to some parts (Beerus ordering to destroy Planet Vegeta, Potara one hour fusion limit etc.) And power levels were very inconsistent. Agreed to an extent, though the power level thing is not that big a deal except in the most egre...

This is not meant as a joke btw, this is a serious question.
I don’t believe you.
Sorry for the slight derailment but I'm struggling to believe a lot of topics are made in good faith on this board right now. It's a weird time for me to have come back to this franchise.

Re: Kanzenshuu Members' Favorite Series (2019 Edition) ROUND 2/3

Guess I'll throw in my 2 cents, though there already seems to be a pretty predictable consensus here. I really try to treat Dragon Ball and Z as one series, I know there's a lot of behind the scenes stuff, but despite this it still feels like a natural continuation, if there was no title distinction...

Re: Is admitting to have watched and liked Super like admitting to have done something 'naughty'?

People on the internet think it's hip to hate DBS, it's almost 2020 we had the phenomenally animated Broly movie and people still can't f**king let go of #5 But thankfully I realised the people on the internet are a minute fraction of the actual proper fan base. The DBS retellings were a colossal s...

Re: Is admitting to have watched and liked Super like admitting to have done something 'naughty'?

It's rather something i seem to notice. The tendancy towards Super if you read reviews or even talk to people, is rather extremely critical. People almost don't seem to enjoy it or find it entertaining. At least not generally. But why doesn't this opinion translate into the numbers? Or the other wa...

Re: Would Level Sets be more sucessfull if Funimation wait more?

Okay, I’ve said this before, but I think you guys are severely overstating how much people still care about the FUNimation dub. From what I’ve seen, more and more people these days are actually fine with the Japanese version. Many people who previously had a preference for the dub have become accus...

Re: All in all, are you happy the revival happened?

I honestly feel sorry for the people than cannot enjoy the new content, i really do. I can understand it's somehow more of the same and it's not all as good, but i can't really understand (it could be me) how you can fondly dislike Super, when it basically has the same ingredients as the original s...

I guess the comparison is being called out because it then implies the rest of the footage will look that good, which it won't.

Yes, that's kinda bad. It's good that we're discussing Dragon Ball on this Dragon Ball message board.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

idk this smeary watercolory mess looks abysmal to me. It's not (as) cropped and the colors don't burn my eyes, but it barely looks better than the season blu-rays. Gotta say I feel the same. I hear a lot that Dragon Boxes look terrible on a 50+" TV, but Christ I'd pull my hair out looking at t...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Is the set as good as the Level Sets? Not a chance. Is it as bad as everyone is bemoaning? Not really. Hate to ask but can you at least say why it's not that bad? I'm only asking for variety sake, as I've found people on this thread who aren't 'bemoaning' generally aren't saying much to back up the...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Well if it's a filter, they added fake grain in place of actual grain they removed, which is intentionally sabotaging the picture in order to fool a few fans. I made a pretty ranty post on the previous page but I agree with you, and find it real scummy.

Re: All in all, are you happy the revival happened?

Yes yes yes, a thousand times yes. I been a Dragon Ball fan since the mid 90's and I adore Super, I honestly think it's superior to Z in every single way. Everyone I know who's been a fan for a long time also thinks Super is better than Z in every way. Can you elaborate? Not that I don't believe yo...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

But some of the apologism in this thread is getting a bit ridiculous. A lot of the posts come off as sunk cost mentality. These people sank a lot of cash into this product, and bought into the hype. That's a really powerful thing. Even then, I can't be too harsh. I remember being young, stupid, and...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

It's the re-insertion of grain (via a filter, from what I'm getting) that bothers me the most. It's a showcase that FUNimation never stopped lying. They aren't just giving you a bad product, but that lying company who told you the orange bricks were HD are still around. The 'fake' grain is just ther...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release

Thanks for the image comparisons, these are real helpful. Well here we are, with another sub-par release of the series. This really is rough to look at, just look at all that detail in the background of the first shot, it looks like a Photoshop filter has been ran over it. Along with line art also b...

Re: Is there a general consensus on what the worst movie is?

The idea that Freeza never trained is actually a pretty cool angle and I can buy the idea that he would become exceedingly strong "debasing" himself with training. Frankly, I don't understand the exceptional hate for RoF. It's sitting at the bottom of the pile with a handful of other DB m...
