Re: Does Faulconer Prod. SSJ3 Theme miss the intention?
Let's look at Kikuchi's original version, I'm not knowledgeable enough to be able to tell you what track was used or the instrumentation arrangement, but in a word I'd call it terrifying. It uses many low notes as well as long high notes that I can only say feel similar to tracks from monster films...

Re: Dragon Ball on Australia and New Zealand
TV3 aired what they were given, so it was just the same edited episodes that Ocean/Funimation did, no extra censorship. There was additional censorship. As Gohan2k described, the TV3 airings would actually have the contact from a lot of the punches and kicks edited out. I can't recall how consisten...

Re: Dead Zone - first installment weirdness (music cues, ending theme, nyoibo)
DBZ Movie 2 (World's Strongest Guy) also contains Mystical Adventure music cues Yeah, the motif pops up in a handful of pieces, right down to the opening title card. It plays in full during the sequence where Misokatsun's beaten. It's quite fitting that it'd still be featured so prominently, given ...

Re: What if Dimps continued the Budokai series right after 3?
I never implied it was to get people to move to the newer consoles. What I said was that it was a quick bone throw to those who couldn't experience Burst Limit at the time because they didn't jump ship to the PS3/360 just yet. Something released so they wouldn't feel left out.

Re: What if Dimps continued the Budokai series right after 3?
It continued the story. Budokai 3 covered all of Z, Infinite World covered Z, GT and the movies. That determines that it's a sequel. Budokai 3 introduced the OG DB, GT, and movie (ignoring the Coola skin from that special version of B2) content. Infinite World just added a bit to them. Not to menti...

Re: What is your favorite track from Shunsuke Kikuchi?
I tend to gravitate towards the few cues that shows Kikuchi's skill in playing with multiple thematic ideas. M814A - A pretty memorable mingling of Mystical Adventure and Piccolo's theme in Movie 1. Not much else to be said of this classic piece. M817 - A rather cool stand off cue. It's actually a r...

Re: Why Kikuchi didn't compose music for the series after the Saiyan Saga?
Who knows, there might have been more specific Character themes Yeah, that's the one big detriment to the direction taken with the musical score for most of the Z-era. They made use of those numerous film cues quite well, but it's a bit disheartening when you think back and take note of the many mi...

Re: Kikuchi character themes
Vegeta (the "Saiyan" theme is used for him constantly, even as late as the Boo arc when most of the earlier score has ceased to show up) Plus the leitmotif I mentioned above, which is what Kikuchi gives him for when he appears throughout the movies. Also, I forgot to add Mr. Satan's Movie...

Re: Kikuchi character theme's
There are a fair handful of character themes Kikuchi cooked up over the franchise's run. It's just that most of the Z-era ones were for movie villains since the majority of the music introduced from that point onward was reused from the films. Even that Freeza theme given in that earlier example was...

Re: DB Equivalent of Force Theme
I don't think renditions of the opening songs reflect the Force theme very well. They're more comparable to the main theme of the Star Wars scores (which in itself was a regularly reoccurring leitmotif for Luke Skywalker, as well as accompanying other heroic moments) because they themselves are the ...

Re: DB Equivalent of Force Theme
The Force theme appears in numerous tracks rather than in one specific cue. Binary Sunset is the piece what people usually refer to most when talking about the theme, though. For Dragon Ball, I think one strong contender is Shen Long's theme. His leitmotif was introduced way back in the original Dra...

Re: "Dragon Ball FighterZ" (PS4/XBO/PC, 2018, Arc System Works) Official Discussion Thread
The FF VII remaster happens in cycles. There was this demo of opening scene before on Sony presentation, which was a demonstration of PS3 hardware and resulted in Advent Children movie later. The tech demo and the movie didn't really have anything to do with each other. Advent Children, which was s...

Re: Bruce Faulconer or Shunsuke Kikuchi ?
Definitely Shunsuke Kikuchi. Don't get me wrong, Bruce Faulconer's low-budget synthesized music is fine on it's own (with some really memorial tracks) but Kikuchi's fully orchestrated bliss truly captures the essence of Dragon Ball even though he gets kinda lazy in terms of composing new tracks for...

Re: Does Movie BGM take too long to debut on TV?
Is anybody else bothered by the fact that bgm from the movies took forever to debut in the Anime series? For example, the piece played when Goku finishes off Broly in movie 8 really had a "main theme" kind of potential, and yet we had to wait until Goku vs. Majin Vegeta to hear it in the ...

Re: Does DBZ's OST Feel Lackluster at Times?
Being this deeply rooted in classical music, Kikuchi would naturally shy away from electric guitars, synthesizers, keyboards, and even pianos. There are some instances where he dabbles into contemporary instrumentation. He wouldn't exactly compose an entire score around a particular modern style, b...

Re: Thoughts on Brian Drummond's Vegeta?
The acting behind his Vegeta is very good, as he was already a fairly seasoned veteran of voice-over work at the time, but I've never been a huge fan of the character voice he used. I wonder whose idea it was to take it that high and raspy. Apart from wanting a slimy, conniving and evil sounding vo...

Re: Does DBZ's OST Feel Lackluster at Times?
James Horner fits Tokunaga better. Romantic, melancholic and grandiose music was his forte, and he was already a major player in the film scoring world before Elfman and Zimmer's time.

Re: Does DBZ's OST Feel Lackluster at Times?
This is stark contrast from the Faulconer tracks, which were basically so radically different for everything. Everyone had his or her own theme; every fight had its own theme; every stupid, nonsensical in-between moment had its own theme (which are my least favorite ones, by the way). To be fair, i...

No, I'm pretty sure it's there for the kids. I believe it's more to do with streamlining/casualizing games than trying to make things easier for kids. In this day and age where gaming has become a lot more prominent and isn't really seen as childish anymore, devs probably take into account the fact...

Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
Most of XV2's issues and lack of new content probably stem from the scope of the project not matching the amount of time and money Dimps had to work. With the XV series, Bamco has been trying to aim for much broader titles to be made. They must contain fancy online hub worlds, create-a-character fea...
