Re: Is Dragon Ball Z Funimation's Worst English Dub?

I think some of the "Drummond not fitting Vegeta in Cell/Boo arc" sentiments also is based around his appearance/the change in art style. Saiyan Saga Vegeta was an imp, and the voice Drummond used is easy to picture with how small he was. While Vegeta later is still short, he's drawn with...

Re: Long Live Chris Ayres

Sad day. Voice actor Jack Angel (Astrotrain, King Zarkon, Ultra Magnus) also passed today. Still RIP Mr. Ayres. Was hoping to meet him at a convention one day. Great Frieza. Was good in Sengoku Basara as well. RIP. :(

Re: Is Dragon Ball Z Funimation's Worst English Dub?

The job of a dub isn't to sound like the original. The so much of the way people are judging the dub actors is by how closely they resemble the OG actors and that';s not fair. That's not their job. Their job is to play the character because that's what acting is. Mimicry is hollow. Ayres isn't grea...

Perhaps he would've preferred Kurama had been voiced by a woman, or Spike Spencer. I thought guys were fine, and know I'm not the only one who loved Jin's Irishness. Or the funniest line in the series. But if you watch with your anime senses off, you'll be fine.

Re: Is Dragon Ball Z Funimation's Worst English Dub?

Albeit for different reasons, I'd say "Master of Martial Hearts". Not so much of its dub being bad, but being a bad show in general with a dark twist ending that leaves a bad taste in many's mouths. I usually keep everything, including stuff it takes me a while to finish, but that I went a...

Interesting. Never watched the show, but now wondering if this character hasn't been cast in the dub yet that perhaps Mr. Hebert would be a good choice.

When the headlines read of those whose hearts are filled with greed and rob and steal from those in need, will Goku right this wrong with blinding speed?

Folks may disagree with me, but anyone else think Cynthia Rothrock in her prime, or Asuka would be a good Android 18? Yeah, would be a bit, but could see them.

Re: StreamlinePictures had Dragon Ball at one point!?

It's not just Toei with that. Year later same thing pretty much went down with the original Mobile Suit Gundam. While the dvds were uncut, they were dubbed only because of not wanting reverse importing. Took another ten years for the original series to get a North American dual language release.

Re: "Live Action Dragon Ball Z Movie"

If given the right people, it could work. Just sometimes that doesn't always happen with movies. Can have some big names, or not so known ones, if it's the right person could work with directing or acting. Perhaps that kunzait guy should audition if one were to be made. He might make a good Goku.

To the guy who originated the thread, ever thought of going to your local anime convention? Grant nowadays they're not really running due to pandemic, but perhaps should look into when they're back. Though be sure to check age and right amount of attention to show.

Re: Audience "Stand-In" characters (Cole Young) and Narrative Liberties with Live Action Dragon Ball

While I haven't watched the movie yet, have to ask, would a variation of the classic theme song with his name instead of whoever he may have replaced work? Speaking of which of things I've seen, haven't seen if Raiden and Johnny Cage were in it, so guessing it would be one of their names, or would ...

Don't think that'd be an issue as Rumiko-sensei's about the same age, if not a little younger.

DB Actors on Space Battleship Yamato

Due to recent watching of Star Blazers 2199, was wondering if there were any DB cast members who were also in the original Space Battleship Yamato? With the remake, while I mainly watching the dub, noticed a few names of the Japanese cast I recognized, but not sure for DB, but would have to look up....

I was born one year before the Saiyans saga, that would make me three years younger than Gohan. We're close to the Dragon Ball GT events, by the way. Just a few more years! Re: Would a “true” faithful dub ever be possible?

It would also be not a big market I'd say. For example, a new Ghost in the Shell dub starring Mary Elizabeth McGlynn and Richard Epcar would be cool to see, but don't think there's a market for it so it ain't happening. Same thing with a new dub of "Castle of Cogliostro" starring tony Oliv...

Re: Would a “true” faithful dub ever be possible?

Even Toei does age changing with voices. Recall hearing the Japanese version of Digimon season 2 had T.K. voiced by a man while he was voiced by a woman in season 1, while Tai and Izzy's voice actresses didn't change.

Re: Would a “true” faithful dub ever be possible?

Sometimes it can work out fine as we saw with Naruto. And while Yuri Lowenthal does great as him, part of me still thinks Tara Strong could've been older Ben 10. Also redubbing costs money. For example, think a few folks wouldn't have minded if the Mega Man collections had new and better dubs for Me...

Re: Would a “true” faithful dub ever be possible?

I’d really like to see that one day, where Dragon Ball is dubbed from the very beginning, trying to seek out VA’s that are capable of doing very close if not spot on impressions of the original characters, A thing with acting, outside legacy characters like Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse and their buddie...
