Putting a show on hiatus risks the audience possibly losing interest. Repeats would be good, I guess. But for the sake of a series' continuity, filler is good.

I've never cried while watching Dragon Ball but I've certainly felt strongly about certain things happening. It's amazing how attached you get to fictional characters, let alone cartoons.
