Re: Dragon Ball Daima (2024)
Pretty much a zero chance it will all air at once, ReLIFE is the only anime I know of to ever do that outside of Netflix anime.

68 is a bit premature to say that he has high odds of dying soon. He could easily have 20 or more years left. But retirement, sure, he might do that soon - he doesn't seem like the highly ambitious, married to the job type.

Re: Dragon Ball and the "It gets good in about 85% of the way!" mentality
The most common perspective amongst the One Piece fandom is that you should wait until Arlong Park and then drop it if you don't enjoy it. That arc begins at episode 30. It's not common for people to suggest waiting any longer than that, even if it happens occasionally (I remember the incident Kunza...

24 when the thread started, 36 now. I guess this is where I'm supposed to say that I'm so ancient or whatever, but I don't really see any need to larp as an old person even though everyone else above 25 does for whatever reason.

Re: Is original Dragon Ball really that unpopular?
I am a Dragon Ball fan since 90s and this is the first time I read Original Dragon Ball is unpopular. In Japan, Dragon Ball wasn't popular at the beggining, when the manga started in Shonen Jump, but became popular in the first Tenkaichi Budokai. Toriyama and Torishima remembered that contests were...

Re: What if Masako Nozawa dies? (God forbid)
The role of Bulma has already had to be replaced as a result of her original voice actress, Hiromi Tsuru tragically passing away at only age 57. A few more of the original voice actors such as the ones that voiced the roles of Roshi & Kaio-sama, sadly passed on due to old age and had to be repl...

Re: Racism in the Dragon Ball fandom
Not Krillin, but some random child from Penguin Village. Obatchaman is hardly a random child. He's basically the Kuririn of Dr. Slump! The Caramel Man lineage would weep at such an insult. Dr. Mashirito didn't put such effort into building robots for his work to be dismissed like this! Oh shit... :...

Re: Racism in the Dragon Ball fandom
The anti-LGBT stuff is the same deal. General Blue is Gay. But he basically labeled a weirdo in the series. He also implied in the Anime I think to be a pedophile for Krillin. Not Krillin, but some random child from Penguin Village. The English dub (which was my original exposure to Dragon Ball; I ...

Re: Dead Yamcha statue
I wonder what people who don't know Dragon Ball (maybe aren't even anime fans in general) might think of it. Might just assume it's a random statue of a drunk or sleeping guy.

Re: Why exactly is everyone saying that GT has good ideas all the time?
I like the Shadow Dragon arc well enough, but I fully agree with SupremeKai that appeal to nature is an absolute dogshit argument. "Going against nature is wrong! I can't actually cite any objective problems that it causes, and going against nature doesn't do much of anything besides alleviate ...

Re: The OG Toei Dragon Ball movie trilogy
I don't really care about the first movie but the second and third are great. The second's tiny cast (limited to the Pilaf cast plus Krillin), 80s feeling, and unique setting all make for a good movie, and the third movie is nice for being one of the exceedingly few times in the entire franchise tha...

Re: Goku Staying Dead Was Perfect
The Crane School showed up at the Tenkaichi Budokai because they wanted revenge on whoever 'killed' Tao Pai Pai. Piccolo showed up at the Tenkaichi Budokai because he wanted revenge on Goku for killing Piccolo Daimao. Dr. Gero made the artificial humans because he wanted revenge on Goku for defeati...

2. They didn't want too. They accepted that they lost the battle and there's not much that they can do. Sometimes death is death. This wouldn't be very good moral logic (though I guess it would be somewhat consistent with Goku's "The dead shouldn't interfere" nonsense from the Buu arc). T...

Re: Which Grandfather would Gohan like more?
Gohan would like Grandpa Gohan more. Pretty much anyone would like Grandpa Gohan more, unless you're more similar in nature to Bardock and would find Grandpa Gohan too sunny and annoying. I'm sure Gohan would find Bardock to be an interesting novelty, but that's about it - he'd care far more about G...

Wouldn't have expected the Dragon Ball episode with the lowest viewership to be the ending to the first Goku vs. Piccolo Daimao.

There's this penguintruth idea from 2009 What they should really do is have a comically serious movie special about a completely irrelevant character dying of something, take the whole movie mourning them, people arguing, fights breaking out over relationships, folks institutionalized for depression...

Re: Plots that came to you in a flash of a second.
In media, anger and rage issues are portrayed less frequently with trauma-inflicted characters than any of the other classical symptoms of PTSD/CPTSD. They seem to focus more on the anxiety cluster of symptoms than anything else. Nightmares and emotional flashbacks are nigh-ubiquitous and characters...

Re: Should Dragon Ball still air on TV in the 2020s and beyond?
I don't see the point in not also having it on TV. Even though we all have streaming and I think it's overtaken traditional TV, not everyone who would've otherwise watched Dragon Ball is going to watch it on Crunchyroll. Maybe if it were on Hulu or some other popular streaming service, but I doubt ...

Re: Was DB Super a flop in the grand scheme of things?
131 episodes is an incredibly long runtime for the present day. That would have been a fairly unremarkable number for the 70s and 80s, but it would have been well above average for the 90s (where 26-52 episodes was the norm), and outright gargantuan by the standards of the 21st century (in the early...

Re: Has your opinion on any Dragon Ball media changed over the years?
I think any medium reaches a point where it becomes advanced enough, or close enough to reaching maturity, that it withstands the test of time better. Not every 10 or 20 year period is created equal. To use videogames as an example, even amongst retro enthusiasts, 90+ percent of the overall focus is...
