No, they have different fighting styles.
Present Trunks can't do a Burning Attack and Future can't do the Final Flash like attack.

Majin Buu had ripped his shirt after catching Vegetto, but he didn't reappear from that shirt after he was destroyed, even though his clothes can regenerate.
Does that count as a mistake?

I really hope for Piccolo Daimaoh being in the game, he was the most serious villain in the DB universe, but nobody seems to care about him.

Well, the OVA will in the game, that's great, but I don't think we should expect more new features for RB2. RB1 had (somewhat) (bad) new characters. RB2 will have the OVA. It's like they are giving us only one new feature per game. True, but I've seen this special twice, and even though it was great...
