Re: Dragon Ball and the Bechdel test.

@ Hades: While I agree that first-world countries have it better than anybody else in the world, there's still MUCH to improve. Uncontrolled prostitution (because I actually live in a country where's it's legal), human trafficking, no control over reproduction rights etc also happen in these so-cal...

Re: Dragon Ball and the Bechdel test.

Because as we know, there is absolutely no organized crime, prostitution, or restriction of reproductive rights in these glorious United States. Do you actually have a point, because you seem to keep saying that First World citizens cannot talk about their own problems. Sigh, could all this posturi...

Re: Dragon Ball and the Bechdel test.

@VyeRo People living in the US/Canada/Western Europe/Australia have NO IDEA how good they have it under most circumstances (it's basically the easiest difficulty setting possible, and if you're middle class or above, you have access to cheat codes). My overall point is that the Bechdel Test is large...

Future Trunks after the Androids

Since Future Trunks defeated cell in his timeline, there remains a lot of issues to resolve 1) The Earth is in ruins 2) Most of the heroes of Earth are dead. 3) There's no Guardian of Earth left, and we don't know what happens if a Guardian's position is vacant for too long. 4) (unbeknownst to all b...

Re: Dragon Ball and the Bechdel test.

Am I allowed to complain about a pothole on my street, or does the lack of transportation in rural Pakistan outweigh that? Complaining about local grievances is one thing (backstabbing politicians, poor infrastructure). It is completely another to inflate it out of proportion and make a mountain ou...

Re: Dragon Ball and the Bechdel test.

My original point was that women in the US/Canada/UK/Austria/France have far less to complain about than their equivalents in Turkey/Russia/Egypt. I mean, the purported subject of "bechdel test" is trivial compared to women in Egypt being subject to acid attacks. How do you manage to make...

Re: Interesting "what if" scenarios that could have happened

5) Gohan had simmering resentment at Goku being a worse dad than Big Boss and Babidi used that to turn him Majin. IMO i second that gohan's character development was completely ruined in the buu saga in favor of goku's return, something like this would have been really interesting if Videl got kille...

1) Piccolo, Tenshinhan and Chaotzu learn the Kaioken. 2) Vegeta decides to go on a conquest spree after Kakarrot's death 3) Gohan finished the job and killed Buu 4) Videl died in the Tournament and Gohan goes over the brink 5) Gohan had simmering resentment at Goku being a worse dad than Big Boss an...

The Philippines and Turkey are first-world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL43_RTo4BM A lone link isn't an appropriate response. Regardless, he's right. They are first world countries. I suggest you look up what that actually means. In terms of Cold war politics: Yes. However, in terms of developm...

Re: Dragon Ball and the Bechdel test.

As I said before, life in the first world is the easiest difficulty setting in most circumstances. Last I checked, women in the first world aren't having acid thrown at them on a regular basis unlike in Pakistan, don't get shot at for criticising the government unlike in Ukraine or Turkey, aren't b...

Re: Dragon Ball and the Bechdel test.

Most, damn near all, of those "advantages" are rooted in the idea that women are inferior and need to be coddled. Sure, but that doesn't make them not advantageous. Yes it does. Because people start thinking "THOSE GODDAMN FEMALES GOT ENOUGH POWER" and electing politicians talki...

So...anyone wanna sum up the results of this thread for me and bring me up to speed? I'm not saying she's a great person, but she gets an unwarranted amount of flack, and I think much of that is because she's a woman. Even if Walter did it for his family (it's clear that's not the case even in the beginning), he put his family in such a horrible position, that any temporary relief ...

Re: Dragon Ball and the Bechdel test.

The "Bechdel Test" is a clear example of "first world problems", when people have it so good (READ: not getting shot at unlike in Ukraine) that they have plenty of free time to focus on trivial things like "toxic masculinity in dragonball".
