Re: Understanding Akira Toriyama's intention behind Kid Buu
He says his intention right there with that Jump interview: he was defying expectations that the final villain would be this hulking mass of muscle(in addition to defying expectations that the enemy would be ultra-threatening when its really magic bubblegum). Toriyama was not concerned about power l...

Pretty mermaids, a dog for a king, and... I wanted to avoid an obvious answer, but senzu. Those harvested on a large scale could help a lot of people.

Bacterian gets electrocuted in an alley way by Tambourine; his naturally putrid body now a smoking corpse, lying in a trash heap. There's no way that didn't smell absolutely horrific.

Clyde Mandelin translated Dragon Ball. if swearing is your bag, "damn" shows up occasionally and there's a notable instance of "shit."

Re: Piccolo's face looking different in Dragonball and early DBZ
Everybody became bulkier as the series went on; it definitely wasn't just Piccolo. Look at everybody in the Saiyan arc, and then the cell arc. Kuririn is pretty damn ripped. Toriyama's roundish style has all but completely dissipated by this point.

Gohan only kills six of the seven Cell Juniors. This Cell Junior grows up to be a nerd, too, and he and Gohan are close friends.

Re: Dragon Ball's Sense of Adventure
It's gone and can never come back. The characters can fly and teleport now. Half of then fun in the beginning was the actual traversing, but Toriyama will take any shortcut he can and giving the characters easy access to any location was too good to pass up. We're not really exploring these new plac...

Re: How Useful would be Bulmas shrinking Device later in the Story
I guess they could've snuck into Babidi's ship, and even get to include Piccolo and Kuririn, but I think Dabra and Babidi already knew Spopovitch and Yamu were being followed anyway.

Re: Ultimate Uncut Dub based on Ocean Studios Dub script?
The point of the re-dub, first and foremost, was to have uncut footage for the DVD home release. DBZ was edited down from 67 episodes to 53 for its syndicated TV run. I'm honestly of the opinion that assuming FUNi was trying to "appease" dub fans with old lines is giving them far, far too ...

Re: How is Super's beginning supposed to be enjoyed?
If by "supposed to be" you mean "canon", then none is more "right" or "correct" than the other. It's all DB . If you mean which one is the closest to the creator's vision and probably had the most time placed into its production, then without a doubt the films...

Re: Would Cell and Freeza really be friends in Hell?
I don't think Freeza is capable of the concept of friendship. A part of me thinks that Freeza would manipulate Cell to not kill him or hurt him out of self-preservation, but then another part of me wonders if a galactic tyrant could keep up the charade of second banana for any reasonable length of t...

Re: Preferred Sections
Most DB games have a reputation for not being very good and I don't play many video games in general as of late, so unless there's some other interesting aspect, like the cornucopia of character and story information Dragon Ball Online offered back in the day, I don't feel the need to go in there. I...

Re: Please lets us change our usernames
I used to visit a forum where people would change their names constantly, and then a rule was later created to prevent that because it was hard to tell who was whom. My, perhaps flimsy, reasoning against that was that who you are on a message doesn't really matter, but the words you're writing do.

Re: What was your highlight of the series?
Chapters 72 through 165 is the longest stretch of pure, unmitigated quality for me. The events that transpire here are what immediately pop into my mind when I think of DB. Perfect, 10/10, would read again.

Re: Gruesome Dragon Ball moments
I think it's an honest misreading of the page. In the manga, the kid is facing the "camera" and you can make out his ear on the top and his open mouth at the bottom. But we're looking at a hi-res close-up copy online; the animator probably just had the tiny image inside the physical book i...

Re: Dub voice actors you think would be better suited
Growing up, I mistakenly thought John O'Hurley was Cell in the dub; I knew him from Family Feud(and possibly the host of another game show?).
Years later, after seeing Seinfeld and gleaning how ho-hum Clarke is in general, I desperately wish it was O'Hurley doing the voice now.

Re: Is Goku's Behavior Excusable Anymore?
So long as Goku's motives remain pure and are for the sake of personal betterment, he can be forgiven for his shortcomings, or at the very least empathized with. I think addressing the importance placed on "plot" is needed. "Plot" doesn't matter, or alternatively, it means very l...

You know what, I'll throw in Cargo, Dende's brother, getting burned alive by Dodoria/Freeza as also pretty damn bad. Ignoring the fact it's a kid, it's one of, if not the only time, you really see the heat-based effects of ki blasts, outside of obviously destroying buildings/scenery.

Re: Gruesome Dragon Ball moments
The only thing I can think of that came closest to unsettling is the slaughtered family near Babidi's ship from the manga, who are omitted from the anime. Apparently you're not allowed to be skeeved out at Videl getting tortured anymore, but that is also up there. There really isn't much in the way ...
