Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.

Hong Kong actor-director Stephen Chow just post this on Instagram story with a mention of Akira Toriyama and the promotional poster drawn by Toriyama for the Japanese release of his movie "Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons". https://www.instagram.com/stories/stephenchow/331909832...

Re: New movie art removing characters

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DTHm0DUWsAA06gB?format=jpg&name=large For clarity as I see Yamamuro is being blamed for things he didn't do  Well whoever did those movie poster redraws, they look absolutely awful and ugly as sin just on their face. Even more so when you put them directly next ...

Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.

I don't think its at all an exaggeration at this point to cite Toriyama as one of the single most influential and globally impactful Japanese Manga artists of all time. Top 5 without question, alongside Osamu Tezuka, Go Nagai, and Leiji Matsumoto. https://i.imgur.com/HVhfMWt.jpg https://i.imgur.com/...

Re: Akira Toriyama Passes Away.

For a split second, I honestly thought this was another rumor/false headline, as there've been a few untrue "Toriyama has passed away" news stories/rumors in the past. But... seems like this is it for real this time. I'm at a total loss for words. 68 is still way too soon. He's only a few ...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

Hell, the biggest sleeper hit of 2022 that swept the Oscars winning 7 of the 11 awards it was nominated for was an American made sci-fi comedy wuxia film with a middle aged Asian woman as the lead The very same Asian woman from Julie's earlier Yes Madame/In the Line of Duty clip on the previous pag...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

I wondered why I never heard of this movie Its a Hong Kong action/martial arts film (called "Yes Madame" aka "In the Line of Duty": its a whole franchise with a bunch of sequels, 9 movies total), and its not a particularly obscure one either. It got 8 sequels (all of them female...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

Regarding this topic, more women in Dragon Ball who actually fight, China has never showed aversion to female characters being action heroes on film. The fierce female warrior is even a stock archetype in wuxia films. So sorry bud you can't use "bUT cHiNa" for why Dragon Ball can't improv...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

Insulting other users back isn't the way to change someone's point of view. People like that clearly aren't interested in having their point of view changed. They're only here to cause harm to others they perceive as weaker or lesser than them. Allowing them freely to do so without pushback is roug...

Then you should know that insulting members is also against the rules here. If you want this forum to be a positive place you should always set the right example yourself. Insulting other users usually just leads to the topic getting messy. Please try to be a bit civil. I follow civility rules no p...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

You had me at furthermore. I like how you're so pushy. Makes an impression. You're so surly, I love it. You're striking me here as precisely the kind of asshole who'll question and cast doubt on real-world statistics on how much street harassment trans people receive day in, day out... exactly at t...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

You all keep bringing up JK Rowling but it's still the same issue - don't be an asshole. Doesn't matter if you are successful or not. It's not fundamentally different when you are dealing with one person or a mass audience. Couple things about this: First off... the reason that J.K. Rowing keeps co...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

I was talking about just finding moderate success. The same kind of moderate success that a lesser-than-Toriyama manga author might enjoy. And I brought up corporations because, it's a little fucking hard to find success with your art, without being attached to some kind of fucking publisher. There...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

You mean the quote intended for the actually powerful, IE police, politicians, parents with their kids, superheroes, etc? Not random everyday people just trying to get by? This isn't black or white where suddenly a line gets crossed and you suddenly need to start trying to change the world. I mean,...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

So it's only ok to not be diverse if what I'm making is very small, independent, and self-published? Or maybe it's only ok if what I make isn't sold for a price at all? What if I suddenly become a best-seller and am very popular? Do the rules change and suddenly I have a responsibility to the world...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

Corporations are not people. Literally the very center-most core of a VAST chunk of our political problems is the societal and legalized perception of corporations as people. And yeah: they're not people. At all. And yeah, there is a VAST gulf of a difference between an individual, independent arti...

... All right, you're not a person who condones pedophilia. Got it. Check. 10-4. I'm fairly sure I didn't even think or say that about you in that old thread from 4 years ago either: rather, you were basically in denial about the person being credibly accused of sexual assault and were refusing to ...

And as for example, here's one that comes to mind, even tho I don't see it as a prevalent thing you ever so eloquently frame me as: Back when Harold and Kumar was first being written they were encouraged to make it about a white guy and a black guy instead of a Korean guy and an Indian guy. And tha...

Re: Inclusivity towards women in Dragon Ball?

Names were already mentioned in this thread for specific cases. No, they actually weren't. Look again in this thread, nobody cited anything specific that fits this. LoganForkHands named one single example (that doesn't really count anyway, cause the writer in question ended up finding out that the ...
