Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"
The last words in the original manga are literally "I will surpass you one day, Kakarot." If you think after the Buu arc Vegeta has no desire to surpass Goku, then you misinterpreted his development. Actually, that depends on whether I like how Toriyama handled his own ending too. Which (...

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"
Well, regarding this whole Superman thing, we're still in a reversal of sorts. If it were Broly origins + FUNi characterization, then Goku would have been Superman straight up. But Goku is in reality not as noble as many think him to be, so his origins - whatever they are - neither add to or detrac...

Re: [spoilers] What do you think is the narrative reason for Beerus being kept ahead of Goku?
Because it gives Goku one constant target to strive to instead of just changing the goal with a new villain. The benefit to this is that the primary hook of the villains now isn't that they are stronger than everyone else, but that they provide a compelling narrative reason to challange the characte...

Re: Anyone Miss When the Arcs Used to Connect Swiftly?
Honestly they haven't done this for awhile. Hunt for the Dragon Ball arc goes into the Tournament arc which goes into the Red Ribbon arc (though both are clear breaks in the story) and it's just Goku redirecting his adventure. There is a clear gap after the Red Ribbon arc of Goku going off for a few...

Re: Which Would Be The Better Ultimate Saiyan Form? SSJ4 or PSSJB?
Super Saiyan Blue KK, the most aesthetically pleasing and potentially the most powerful state bar Ultra Instinct. SSJ4 has a good concept but the execution looks terribly bad, eye liners, fur coat, magical clothes appear out of nowhere when transforming and that annoying tail are simply a joke. I c...

Re: Which Would Be The Better Ultimate Saiyan Form? SSJ4 or PSSJB?
SSJ4 is a decent concept that looks stupid. Okay you want to go for a monkey motif to harken back to Oozaru? Sounds sensible. Red fur, magic pants, eyeliners and 80's hair metal mane. Yeah it looks like someone was listening to too much Motley Crue

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"
Therefore, by the power of the dictionary, Gogeta is “Canon”. Wether you, or Toriyama, likes to use that word or not. What!? So it does not matter what Toriyama thinks, there is a canon because you, GodVegetto91 from an American forum, want the franchise to have? No. It’s whats official. If...

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"
Japan are horrendous at marketing their own movies. They're just giving away exactly what's gonna happen in the movie. So... Like we all knew what SSG was before that movie and SSB and Golden Freeza before that one. Go back to the 90's and the last Gogeta movie was marketed around Gogeta despite th...

Re: Official On-Going Dragon Ball Super Movie Thread: "Broly"
Beerus and Whis do kinda kill all tension when they're around. And while I love the idea in theory of Gokû and Vegeta training together under Whis they really haven't done enough with that imo to make me say I'd miss that so.....I think I'd be ok with them writing Beerus and Whis out. (It'd be sad ...

Re: Was Vegeta "third time's the charm" for a rival?
Tenshinhan and Piccolo became allies with the heroes immediately in the next arc and didn’t have time to develop into rivals. Vegeta was an antihero in the arc following his and it always felt like a marriage of convenience. Vegeta also was never on anything resembling good terms with Goku until the...

Re: Why didn't Cell get his own movie?
-Freeza is connected to the Saiyan backstory which effects both Goku and Vegeta -Freeza was the strongest villain in the main series who wasn't a creation (Android created by Gero or Boo created by Bibid) -Freeza was the catalyst for the most iconic transformation in the series. -Freeza was the vill...

Re: Do you think Dragon Ball Evolution is the Worst Movie Ever?
No. It's a poor Dragon Ball adaptation. If you never knew anything about Dragon Ball or the manga, it's a somewhat mediocre under budget hero flick comparable to something the Power Rangers would do. It's not really in the realm of worst films ever. It's not a good film either.

Re: Would y’all like it if Tori rebooted other Z Movie/GT villains?
Broly is uniquely suited to a reboot because 1. He's a cool concept, but his execution is flawed so there's room for improvement. 2. His backstory can be tied to Goku/Vegeta/Freeza and actual in story lore. 3. Unlike Cooler who is a stand in for Freeza, or Turles who is a stand in for the Saiyan inv...

Re: So; has anyone else thought about how ridiculously lucky the Z fighters have been overall?
It seems like ever since day one. Whenever Goku fights someone hugely powerful and wins, someone else comes along who dwarfs the other guy. Then he beats him and a new person comes along who dwarfs him. Rinse, lather, repeat. But what if someone arrived early? Like for example what if when Raditz d...

Re: Why are they retconning the original Bardock special? Now it's no longer canon?
Regarding the OP, since when was the Bardock special canon? It never was. Toriyama referencing two panels from a specific scene doesn't mean the whole special was taken into account for his story. He simply liked it. More to the point, he didn't even write the original special. If Toriyama wants to...

Re: Why are they retconning the original Bardock special? Now it's no longer canon?
What a waste. The original Bardock special, along with the flashbacks of Freeza knocking out King Vegeta on his ship, and destroying Bardock and his team is no longer canon? So what happened to Bardock's team? Do they no longer exist, the ones Dodoria killed? Bardock will no longer fight Freeza in ...

Re: Why are they retconning the original Bardock special? Now it's no longer canon?
The original Bardock special was no more canon than the Broly or Cooler movies lol. Aside from one panel in the manga, that's the only thing about it. And honestly, I get that it was popular with fans, but it was otherwise irrelevant from a canon perspective. Not to mention this definitively gets r...
