Re: DB RELATED: Department of Justice is concerned about the Sony acquisition of Crunchyroll
There's Animelab in Australia, and while it's got a lot of Funimation stuff, it's hardly Funi/Sony only. (And Netflix has the greatest anime of all time even if the dub isn't too crash hot.) AnimeLab merged with Funimation a couple months ago. And by "merge" I mean that AnimeLab is ...

Re: DB RELATED: Department of Justice is concerned about the Sony acquisition of Crunchyroll
And while I doubt anyone cares, since I last posted in this thread Animelab has since become Funimation. So both anime streaming services available in Australia are Sony owned.

Re: Opinions on the original Funi Dragon Ball dub
Whoa geez where did all this hostility come from? Sounds like somebody needs to take a chill pill. Look back a couple pages and you can see exactly where it came from. Though frankly, I don't think I'm in the wrong all that much for not being very receptive to a guy starting shit with me fo...

Re: Opinions on the original Funi Dragon Ball dub
There's plenty of "hardcore" moments in the first series. I think that a replacement score could have found a decent middle ground somewhere between "comedy" and "hardcore" when it really needed too. There is absolutely zero need, ever, at any point in time, for Dragon...

Re: Toriyama's Ruthless Vegeta
If every one of those hundreds of people was evil and deserved it, and the killer had no other option, then it could be true. But I don't think that applies to random fans in the budokai stadium. Perhaps being fans of martial arts, they also operate in a different morality and thus knew that there ...

Re: Toriyama's Ruthless Vegeta
Good people can do terrible things. It doesn't necessarily make them terrible people. I wouldn't automatically assume that someone is evil because they killed hundreds of people. https://www.thecoli.com/media/dahell-original-gif.1618/full?d=1480046730 If every one of those hundreds of people was ev...

Re: Toriyama's Ruthless Vegeta
Vegeta is most definitely a good person. Porunga understood this. His past sins shouldn't determine whether or not he is wished back to life. I suppose you could make the argument that he should go to Hell, given his past, but even then I'm not so sure if it's that simple. Also I wouldn't be so qui...

Re: Toriyama's Ruthless Vegeta
That's like committing cold blooded murder then turning to Jesus the next day. That doesn't wipe away the sin. Good for Vegeta, he tried to make up for what he caused. That doesn't make him a good person. Honestly the more fitting ending would for him to wind up in Hell after helping save the unive...

Re: Opinions on the original Funi Dragon Ball dub
I can see a Viz dub being much like their dub of Sailor Moon-more faithful to the source material, but with more monotone acting. There's a difference between restrained acting and monotone acting. As you yourself have said many times you're a big fan of the Funi dub (and not because it's good, in ...

Re: Non-American fans of Faulconer
Is rock music even popular outside the U.S.? Well. This is certainly a question. I'm not sure what thought process could even lead you to ask this as a legitimate question. Of course rock music is popular outside the US. Have you genuinely never heard of any non-US rock bands? Like not even the ult...

Re: Where Dragon Ball should have ended?
The Dragon Ball franchise (not just the series) should have stopped producing material after GT. Everything after that was honestly a shameless way to milk the cash cow. What, you think GT was created for pure artistic reasons? (As for video games, nope, that would rob us of Fighterz and even Xenov...

Re: What did non-Toonami USA prints of the edited in-house FUNimation dub of "Dragon Ball" use for the opening?
They occasionally did show the original opening on Toonami USA, which was the full Makafushigi version. Ah, I see. I guess that's what prints outside of Toonami USA would have used. Again pretty sure Toonami USA wasn’t the only one to ditch the opening for their own version. In fact this is apparen...

Re: Opinions on the original Funi Dragon Ball dub
Part of the reason many fans believe Dragon Ball’s dub is more faithful (despite really not being that much more faithful from a day to day script standpoint) is because it kept the original music and thus it feels closer to the original show. But that's all a deception. As you said it's not actual...

Re: How would you rank Dragonball compared to other Shonen?
The original run of Dragonball/DBZ is probably the pinnacle of anime storytelling. It's the Citizen Kane of anime. I'm utterly fascinated by the thinking behind this statement and must know more. Because, ultimately, it's not even close. Legit the only show I’ve seen go past 6 seasons and still be ...

Re: Would you pay Funimation via Kickstarter for a redub of the full Dragon Ball media
That's the opposite of arbitrary if the assumption is everyone cast before Kai is terrible I’d find it difficult to believe that someone could legitimately consider every single one of the actors who were around before Kai to be bad, while the ones cast after that are all or mostly good enough to k...

Re: Would you pay Funimation via Kickstarter for a redub of the full Dragon Ball media
Since we're talking entirely in hypothetical here, sure, why not?I rarely crowdfund, though. I would also require everyone involved prior to Kai to be recast. Everyone. No more Schemmel, no more Sabat, no one. An incredibly faithful script that doesn't have pointless references to old dubs or teeth ...

Re: I still don't get why FUNI never redubbed DBZ from start to finish
As others have mentioned, money. Additionally, even if they wanted to do a redub, considering Schemmel didn't want to be part of a partial redub, I doubt he would've participated in a full on redub of Season 3 onward. And a Dragon Ball Z dub without the voice actor for Goku is kind of a non-starter...
