Actually, jinzouningen is standardly translated as “android”. The idea that it's a bad translation is kind of a misconception of English fans. If you go to the Wikipedia page for “android” and use the scroll on the left to direct you to the Japanese version of the page, it directs you to the Japane...

As I understand it, Jinzo'ningen (directly translating to 'artificial human') can be a confusing term, as in Japan it's used to refer to cyborgs, androids, robots and even clones at times. The dub translated it to Android, but this is a poor translation since 17, 18 and probably 20 (Gero) were cybor...

Ahh, you sound like me. I'm always in the process of planning stories I want to write, but I spend most of my time working out the mechanics of any fictional things involved. Even if I don't plan on going deeply into these mechanics, I want to have them thought out as a reference for myself, to avoi...

Isn't planet Vegeta gone by the time Dragon Ball starts? So where it is shouldn't make much of a difference. Earth is quite a back-water planet in the middle of nowhere. It's barely worth conquering really, so it must be a long way from Frieza's empire. Vegeta and Nappa were probably on that far awa...

Hmm, Frieza's final form was supposed to be his 'true' form, while the forms before it were purposely powered-down forms he created, isn't that the case? But King Cold alone always confused me, I dunno if he was in Frieza's 'second form' or if he was just a really huge version of first form. Cooler'...

Thanks for the reply caejones! Your theory is interesting, and I actually kind of agree with it. To me, 'psychic' or 'spiritual' energy isn't something that's tangible, or exists. It's metaphysical, astral, it's potential, maybe as big as we make it. As you said, abstract. Lately I'm starting to thi...

Re: Ki in the Dragon Ball Universe
What do you think ki is in Dragon Ball? Ki is like the force in Star Wars. If you've seen the movies then you've seen that Jedi can sense things around them, they can point out places, people, and objects and it moves through them to give them "superhuman" abilities like Force Jump, Speed...

The power of a man's soul that cannot be broken. The magma of the heart! (Ok. Now that I'm done geeking out- see Chakra. Spiritual power, the soul, the spirit's power.) I've never really embraced that sort of definition because it always seemed to be treated like your life-force, and I've never con...

Ki in the Dragon Ball Universe
I have a few questions about these subjects. Or rather, I'd like to hear some opinions from other people. What do you think ki is in Dragon Ball? I've always thought of it as the tangible energy inside a person, your stamina or whatever, influenced by your spirit, will and intention (hence why you c...
