Re: Straw Hats on DB

The two share a bunch of other cast members, as well.

Jōji Yanami (Narrator/Kaio) played Mayor Boodle in the Buggy arc
Daisuke Gōri (Mr Satan) played Jinbei originally, but only recorded two episodes before his death
Tōru Furuya (Yamucha) has a major role after the time skip

Re: Dragon Ball and the UK.

Tesco actually still do physical media, at least in the branches near me. They recently announced that they'd phase out CDs/DVDs/Blu-rays by the end of this month (Guardian article: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/feb/02/tesco-to-stop-selling-cds-and-dvds-in-stores-as-shoppers-switch-to-s...

Re: Dragon Ball and the UK.

It's not noticeable as much without the traditional high street, but I think the market's still there for those that buy online, at least I hope, as I like physical media. I was moreso talking about DB's presence in supermarkets. Tesco and Sainsbury's have both dropped physical media since the pand...

AIUI, Kix only joined Freeview after they'd finished with Kai.

Re: Dragon Ball and the UK.

The highstreets here really aren't what they used to be, with many businesses having gone under. Aside from HMV we don't really have a chain dedicated to selling brand new DVDs/Blu-rays, aside from supermarkets like Tesco and Asda that only have a small display for them. I think HMV might have been...

Re: FUNimation streaming all the Dragon Boxes now

How odd. Surely Funimation still considers their new 1080p 4:3 masters to be the superior source? Maybe this was a happy mistake. Either way, having the aspect ratio tied to the audio language is silly and unintuitive. Their player has a toggle for uncut/simulcast, so surely they could implement an ...

Re: The CW is up for sale. (And I hope it will air Dragon Ball again)

Still think no kid watches Broadcast TV? Going by those stats, streaming was an order of magnitude more popular than the broadcast, although the streaming numbers have presumably been inflated by non-episode "content". I don't think that bodes well for Kids content on broadcast TV, even i...

Re: Will we ever get a 4K Dragon Ball Z release from Funimation?

They released Akira, as well as Transformers the Movie and Ghost in the Shell in the UK. Those were all cases of Funi localising (or simply copying) an pre-existing disc from an international release. They're yet to create 4K masters themselves, as far as I'm aware. Then again, Funi doing their own...

Re: Will we ever get a 4K Dragon Ball Z release from Funimation?

For the time being, UHD Blu-rays seem rare for TV series outside of HBO and BBC nature series. That being said, it's pretty standard for movies, and we'll see how much of the Blu-ray collector crowd upgrades their equipment over time. If Funi were planning 4K DB releases, they'd probably start with ...

Re: Why did 4Kids One Piece FAIL while Funimation's Dragon Ball succeeded?

The idea that this somehow wouldn't have happened to One Piece had 4Kids stuck with it is ludicrous. Of course it would have. At some point when my back was turned, the internet started liking the One Piece rap theme. Almost all online discussion about it was toxic as hell a decade ago, but now tha...

Re: Why did 4Kids One Piece FAIL while Funimation's Dragon Ball succeeded?

Funimation Z’s dub especially season 3 does literally what you just described Serious scene *comedic line* *comedic track* were everywhere in season 3. TBH, I'm more familiar with the two Funi/Ocean seasons than the rest of the dub. Even so, I think that those kinds of changes did more damage to On...

Re: Why did 4Kids One Piece FAIL while Funimation's Dragon Ball succeeded?

The tones of the two dubs might have played a big part. Funi had a clear direction in aggressively reshaping DBZ into a 'hardcore action cartoon', while 4Kids' One Piece seemed to have a lack of confidence in the original material. So you end up with moments where a joke happens during an action sce...

Looks like it is indeed a repackaging of the 30th anniversary remaster.
Where did the Blu-ray.com users get that info? It likely is a 30A re-package, but has that been specifically confirmed?

From Funi, Jason Douglas had a minor role in Breaking Bad (https://youtu.be/KlqMhcZvnkI) and Brina Palencia's been in The Walking Dead. From Ocean, I was surprised to see Scott McNeil in Primeval: New World (a Canadian spin-off of the UK show).

Re: Who Commissioned the kid friendly Super Funi dub?

Do we know if an dialogue track exists beyond episode 52? Pop seemingly switched to the Toonami version (with their own cuts, obviously) after that first "season". It was most likely Funimation, they always do TV-safe edits of their dubs as a backup in case no network is interested in the ...

Re: Did Dragon Ball air in the UK in the 90s?

The former was alluded to by Jerome Mazandarani (previous CEO of Manga UK) who said on the Kanzenshuu podcast "I think it was on ITV too" (though he may of been confusing it with Pokemon and Digimon, which did air on said channel) There was a similar mistake on the Manga UK podcast. One o...

I see people complain about cinema experiences a lot online, and I have to wonder whether I'm super lucky or there's some cultural differences going on when it comes to cinema etiquette. The worst I've had in the Midlands has been small groups murmuring amongst themselves, and they usually stop if y...

For the very little it's worth, this scene was indeed cut by Pop in the UK. [scene where Yamucha wonder's why he's not been invited to the ToP] YAMUCHA: What? You want Puar? Re: Soundtrack glitches on UK orange brick DVDs

I will also give Manga credit for adding HoH subtitles to their DBS Broly and Hero Academia movie releases, an accessibility feature that Funimation ignores despite having the appropriate tracks available on their streaming service. Even Funi's "dubtitle" tracks lacked non-dialogue notes, ...
