Re: If You Could Ask FUNimation Anything? Interview in The Works

Did FUNi really get a "letter of disgrace" from TOEI back in 2000? Because of that letter, I heard Dale Kelley and Mark Britten were forced to quit since they weren't allowed to put FUNi on their resumes after getting that letter. I have not heard of this letter before. I'll definitely as...

Re: If You Could Ask FUNimation Anything? Interview in The Works

I would like to know how Funimation felt about all their critics who were upset and unhappy with them about their handling of DBZ back in the day. I would also like to know the answer to this. And to reverse the question back at you, how do you feel about FUNimation now? Both the current FUNimation...

Re: If You Could Ask FUNimation Anything? Interview in The Works

To the OP: Is it possible for you to get an interview with any current Funimation employees? Unfortunately no. I asked Adam Sheehan at the last Anime Expo in Los Angeles if I could interview him or any other FUNimation employees, and he said they could not provide an interview because any response ...

What do you mean by slipcovers? Can you give me an example description or image of what these are? Thanks for the clarification.

The covers and Frieza... both good questions I had wondered about myself. I totally would not have thought to ask those though. Good ones. Maybe we can finally get some answers!

Re: If You Could Ask FUNimation Anything? Interview in The Works

From what I heard, FUNi used to get badly translated scripts of the episodes from TOEI themselves or their old translator who worked there and english wasn't her first language. They had to produce the show really fast, so having Daimao sub the show for the dvds was done much later. Yeah, I read th...

Re: If You Could Ask FUNimation Anything? Interview in The Works

Anything in regards to Kai they probably won't know the answer to, since they stopped working there in 2005. So if I asked the question it would probably be a conjectural reply.

But I can still reword the questions to make them timeless. So feel free to post your questions here anyway.

If You Could Ask FUNimation Anything? Interview in The Works

If you could ask FUNimation anything, then what would it be? I have an interview in the works with (possibly) three former producers and executives at FUNimation. They were employed there from 1998 to 2005 and were integral in the production and distribution of the Dragon Ball series in America. Dec...

Re: If Dragon Ball wasn't based on Journey to the West...?

My initial response is the Rigveda (and Baghavad Gita). These are the stories that Journey to the West borrowed many themes from, including (most likely) Sun WuKong and Son Goku, as the precursor was the Monkey Demi-God Hanuman. These stories are filled with epic battles, fights between gods and hum...

Adult Goku. Plain and simple.

Re: Bruce Faulconer didn't make his own music?

Thank you Scott, and everyone. This is very useful information. I just wrote to Bruce Faulconer and requested an interview for The Dao of Dragon Ball. I would love to ask him some questions about what it was like during the late 90's and early 2000's as he and his team worked on the series. Scott, w...

Re: Episode #0236 (24 October 2010)

I was hoping to hear more specifics about the origins the philosophies and the mythology of "ki" (religious and otherwise) and how they were applied/adapted by Toriyama for Dragonball. It's not that I expected any real tangible evidence (I'm a skeptic), I guess I just expected an interest...

Re: Episode #0236 (24 October 2010)

You made some very good points. The simplification of these concepts is primarily due (in my opinion) to the proliferation of the Chan / Zen Buddhism of Shaolin / Shorin. Their concepts of emptiness and "No Dharma" meant that they did not have a set of sutra based teachings, and they learn...

Re: Episode #0236 (24 October 2010)

I really enjoyed this post. It covered the basics of Ki and introduced the general principles, as well as how the concepts are depicted in Dragon Ball. Josh, your understanding of the martial arts is very broad. Congrats on being on the podcast. You mentioned that Gong Fu was not your expertise. If ...

Re: The Most Important Training

I have to agree that his training atop Kami's Lookout was the most important. This is where Goku learned to become still. Stillness and non action are essential components of the martial arts and also eastern spirituality (mainly Buddhism and Daoism). Goku learns from Mr. Popo how to sit in Full Lot...

Yeah, I did focus the question on Asperger's Syndrome. Basically it was a call to the community for people with this condition. Though I am open to any discussions relevant to the topic. In regards to the subject of intelligence, I'm certainly interested in it, so feel free to discuss whatever you l...

Thanks, Suupaa Gohan 2. All of these posts have been helpful, but yours was exactly the type I am looking for. A deep and meaningful trip down memory lane. It will definitely inspire my writing. The funny thing is that your sharing was very relatable to my own experiences. There was a lot of head no...

Re: Asperger's Syndrome and Dragon Ball

I never heard of anything like this before. Did you hear about it in real life, or on the internet? In real life. Back in 2006 I was working at Electronic Arts as a QA tester on a team with a bunch of other people. We started to discuss our outside projects and I mentioned the book (which I started...

Very clear. Thank you. And to everyone as well.

I would love to hear from other people too, especially the people at Daizex, Kanzentai and the forum regulars. It has evidently played a role in peoples lives, whether small or large.
