Re: Were there any Dragon Ball releases on Betamax?
Yes. In Japan all the Dragon Ball movies and the first Dragon Ball Z movie were released on Betamax, VHS, LaserDisc, and 8mm film. Following that, they were released on VHS, LaserDisc, and 8mm film. Never seen any laserdiscs for the DB films or proof that they even exist, apart from the 10th annive...

Re: Pirating Dragon Ball (discussion)
People wanna pirate that's mostly their prerogative but what irks me is people who do and don't support then series in any capacity whether it be buying merch, Manga, video releases etc. Another thing DBS streams, people still watch it illegally via a stream before the simulcast goes live. Folks li...

Re: Is being able to watch original DBZ in a non-cropped format for a reasonable price too much to ask?
I was the one who posted about that recap change. It is only episodes 1-8 on Disc 1 of the Season 1 BD, which is an incredibly random number since disc 1 contains 10 episodes. This change also applies to the eyecatch music in those episodes too. Once you get to episode 9, it's the same music as all ...

Re: Has Dragon Ball been remastered to HD or not?
This is definitely not an HD scan. I agree with Hakkaibills in thinking that it's just a quick avisynth upscale. I even reported it as one when it was uploaded. That's probably why it got removed...

It is now confirmed that those Speedy VCDs you see on eBay with episodes of DBZ on them are, in fact, dubbed by Speedy themselves.

I remember mentioning the aspect ratio thing to him at some point in a PM on Facebook maybe and he said he was already gonna do that by the time I brought it up.

I'm pretty surprised at how many people here rooted for 16:9. I've always thought this forum leaned more toward preferring 4:3, the purist's perspective.

Re: What was happening in Dragon Ball on your birth week?
Unfortunately, Dragon Ball Z skipped my birth week (maybe for Golden Week?), otherwise episode 264 would have aired right on my birthday in Japan... However, Chapter 517 (the antepenultimate chapter in the entire run) debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump #23 on May 9, one day before my birthday so I'll tak...

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular
The Level Sets aren't even the best in terms of color. Blacks are way too crushed and it gives it an overall darker look. If you're going to color correct the show, you need multiple sources from which to cull color information e.g. original broadcasts, Kai, the old single DVDs, and of course the Dr...

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular
And really, just by removing the colour cast from the Dragon Boxes, you'll get something that looks pretty nice. I was recently pondering the same thing, take the following comparison for example: http://i.imgur.com/NBKVYkM.png http://i.imgur.com/0PUB83O.png Removing the color cast, plus white and ...

Question about Dragon Box: The Movies audio
Before I ask my question, I want to make some things clear: I know about Movie 13 and the 10th Anniversary movie being surround and not mono and I know about that Movie 6 stereo remix cassette. I'm not talking about those things. Now for my question. I was looking for the special features on this se...

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular
You really need to consider a range of sources that include the cels as well as the Kai palette and original broadcast recordings. There is no definitive color source out there yet for us to reference the entirety of the series.

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
I have a few questions about the blu-ray's: In the orange brick set of episode 55 if you watch it with US broadcast audio most of the sound effects are gone, is this problem fixed in the blu-ray episode with US broadcast audio? My second question is if the Blu-ray fixed the muffled audio on Cha La ...

Re: A couple questions about Funimation releases
The intended aspect ratio on the movies is actually not 4:3 but 1.85 widescreen. Episode of Bardock and History of Trunks were shown in theaters? I thought they were just TV specials, where the proper aspect ratio would be 4:3, since they would've been viewed on a television, rather than a cinema s...

Re: A couple questions about Funimation releases
The intended aspect ratio on the movies is actually not 4:3 but 1.85 widescreen. The movies may have been animated in 4:3, but they were animated with the intended ratio in mind. There is a classic example of this in movie 3 when Gohan charges a Masenko in the air and it's cut off right at the matte...
