Re: Need honest, in-depth opinions on the Funimation dub WITH Kikuchi music.
From what I understand, Toei did all of the score replacement themselves. However, some earlier eps may have had gotten temp tracks laid down so they could be sent to Japanese stations that ran Kai re-runs or sent to international broadcasts very quickly. I'm pretty certain that the music you hear o...

Re: Need honest, in-depth opinions on the Funimation dub WITH Kikuchi music.
For the most part, the placement is just fine. There are a couple (rare) instances of very upbeat music backing a scene that's supposed to be more serious. Or more dramatic music inserted into lighter moments (like the recap of Dragon Ball in Ep. 1). If you marathon a big chunk of episodes in a row,...

Re: Should I watch or buy DBGT
If you can access and watch Hulu, I'd recommend watching it that way before you decide to buy it. The entirety of GT TV (Japanese with Eng. subtitles.) The series is inconsistent in terms of quality, but there's lots of good and bad in there. So YMMV. I do think GT worth watching for it's significa...

Re: Growing up with Dragonball/Toonami.
I did watch Toonami before I was a fan of Dragon Ball and I did enjoy watching the other shows on the line up. I remember when they used to play a bunch of old 60's and 80's TV shows like Johnny Quest, ThunderCats, Voltron and Robotech. I give Toonami credit for making Dragon Ball more popular. I d...

Re: What version did you start off with?
I managed to catch scattered episodes of the 1996 FUNi/Ocean/Saban dub via syndication, right before they moved to Cartoon Network's Toonami and thus, I was able to watch it some kind of order. :) Around 1998-1999, I discovered and was subsequently able to purchase the Pioneer uncut releases of DBZ ...

Re: How are the Japanese Kai DVDs and/ Blu rays?
This article does a pretty decent job of comparing the various releases of Kai and their video quality (thanks and shout-out to MarcFBR ): http://www.fanboyreview.net/2010/05/05/dragon-ball-z-kai-color-differences-comparison/ From that article and various posts of this forum, it's been said that bas...

Re: Super on TV
Since GT, FUNimation has changed a lot regarding it's localization and release practices... Super will most likely be released in proper episode order from the get-go.
Also, we've heard nothing regarding a US TV broadcast of the films. We might get them on TV before Super, who knows?

Re: My Experience Watching Dragon Ball Z Kai
A lot of times the VA in JPN DBZ sound like screeching cats. Especially Goku. No offense, but I'm not sure what you mean by "screeching cats". Screeching cats sound like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bu_euu81Usc Certainly not like the characters. Vegeta and Cell come off as mascul...

Re: Dragonball Movie 2 and 3 Redub
Sure, while it'd be nice to have a more professional and consistent dub for Movies 2 & 3, dubbing costs money; and apparently enough money that FUNi isn't willing to spend on something that doesn't have a "Z" in the title. I say, if you want a consistent voice cast, script, and perform...

Re: Would you have liked to see Pioneer dub the franchise?
I'm surprised there are so many postive responses to the question at hand. I honestly didn't imagine that many people enjoyed the voices of the Ocean dub. It's a shame that Pioneer wasn't able to produce any more material than they did. It may have cost a lot of money but it definitely would've bee...

Re: Japanese soundtrack and English dub=match made in heaven
I will say that I defended the Z dub w. JPN soundtrack for a number of years; maintaining that if you absolutely had to watch the show in English, this was the more faithful of the two dub tracks. But ever since Kai (and it's awesome dub) came around, the FUNi Z dub has become even more of a relic. ...

Re: Super is not so bad like someone says
It's not even bad. Super 's perfectly fine. The post-ROF stories, in particular has had some of my favorite material in years. The animation and musical score aren't stellar, but are perfectly acceptable given the type of production and schedule this has. And there are small flourishes where the goo...

Re: Best DBZ fighting game
Hmmm... I dig Super Dragon Ball Z an awful lot. Budokai 3/Tenkaichi 3 are also pretty damn entertaining IMO. Of the most recent generation of Dragon Ball games, I really dig Xenoverse, but I'll admit the mechanics and gameplay are way more simplistic and exploitable than most of the older gen games.

If it meant we could finally get the Movies in DBox Quality, damn skippy.
Even better... If it meant we could get a 4:3 release of Z TV with the broadcast audio, damn skippy.

Re: My Experience Watching Dragon Ball Z Kai
Glad to hear you're still enjoying the ride, Valerius . - Vic's rendition of Dragon Soul is easily the best IMO. - The more cursing, the better, IMO. "Fifteened" anime dubs usually end up being very memorable to me. - Almost all of the new casting choices for Kai were improvements over the...

Re: Your Dream Composer
If we're strictly going with Japanese composers, I really think Toshihiko Sahashi would be a perfect fit for the franchise. Not a super well-known guy, but his work can be heard in a variety of anime and game productions, such as The Big O, Gundam SEED, Full Metal Panic , and Hunter X Hunter . The m...
