Re: Funi dragon box on ps3

Also, not relevant, but I totally promote the "Sequential Playback" feature on the PS3. It's so wonderful. I love being able to drop in a different movie or something and then coming back to another dvd and it starting up where it left off. This feature is amazing. I really adore it. Espe...

I don't think it's a particularly long gap. They've been coming out between 3-5 months apart so far.

Re: The Dragon Boxes WILL be Limited. (ANNCast Segment)

Castor Troy , great work. It's unfortunate that we're just now getting word that the Dragon Boxes will be limited (although we don't know exactly how limited), when that might have been announced sooner to both inform fans and bolster sales. But hopefully, like we're speculating, it doesn't s...

Re: Funi dragon box on ps3

If 4:3 was still even remotely relevant, why is it that Blu-Ray left it behind? 4:3 hasn't been left behind at all. Blu-ray does encode things at a different native ratio than DVD, but content that was made in 4:3 is still being presented as such, whether it's Dragon Ball Kai , The Wizard of Oz , o...

Re: For the older fans...

I just turned 24, and I still love Dragon Ball . I've been a fan since the Pilaf arc started airing in the US, so I have pretty deep nostalgic ties to it. I only started watching the Japanese version a few years ago, and I didn't buy all of the orange bricks, so I'm experiencing the true version of ...

Re: Dragonbox Volume 2

I wouldn't be surprised if, eventually, some new cheap-o Dragonball Z set came out that replaced the Orange Bricks and used the DBox footage. You have to admit, the packaging for the DBox is a lot more elaborate than any of the Bricks. The packaging is very elaborate compared to most DVD releases i...

Re: DragonBall Z Kai Cable TV Version (NickToons) Edits!

Censorship created a small inconsistency: Kuririn's armor was edited to appear intact when Freeza impaled him. The holes only appeared after Dende healed him.

I like the strobe effect; it's just how I'm used to seeing it. So I'll vote for the original Z version.
...well, I would vote if this was a poll.

Re: Do you think FUNimation will rerelease the Dragon Boxes?

If the Dragon Box remastering was done on film and FUNimation received film masters instead of videotape or a digital source, then it is possible the footage could be used to create Blu-ray transfers as film has far greater resolution than videotape or even Blu-ray. Yes, the original film has the m...

Re: Do you think FUNimation will rerelease the Dragon Boxes?

Was the Dragon Box cleanup job done at 480 resolution? (I seem to remember reading that but I can't remember the source; please correct me if I'm wrong.) If so, a true HD release would require a whole new cleanup job. Of course, that wouldn't necessarily stop FUNi from releasing an upscaled Blu-ray ...

Re: Dragonbox Volume 2

I always thought another reason was it's the only way to get the Namek Saga in fullscreen uncut since the UUE volumes were cancelled after episode 27, the Ocean Dub volumes were edited and the Season Sets were cropped. That's a good theory. The first DBox would be selling well for the same reason. ...

It's also the only Dragon Box release where they're listing how many they have in stock. I don't know if that's a good or bad sign.

Re: How different is the NA Dragon Box from the JP Dragon Box?

How do we know that Toei did it right in the 1st place? I don't think anyone here has seen the ORIGINAL footage. ...No, the real tape that they keep in cold storage. I don't think anybody outside of Toei has ever seen that. If by "tape," you mean "film," there are a few reasons ...

Re: How different is the NA Dragon Box from the JP Dragon Box?

I played those two clips simultaneously in MPC-HC, synched up with overlapping windows, switching back and forth. Aside from the brightness, I couldn't tell the difference. Is there software for an ABX test? Foobar can ABX audio with a plugin; there might be a video equivalent. Play the JP version, ...

Re: How different is the NA Dragon Box from the JP Dragon Box?

Regarding the audio, the only really noticeable difference is that the FUNi sets are mastered at a quieter overall level. You may have to crank your volume knob a little more than you do for most DVDs, but that's all. It sounds just fine. To get a little more technical, albeit less important: How ab...

Re: "Not 'til the fish jumps"

I get a kick out of the line. I understand that it doesn't belong in a translation, but I don't take the Z English dub too seriously anyway; it would have been fine as a bonus outtake, or as part of a compilation of the voice actors goofing around with the footage. Although it's not quite as bizarre...

Re: DragonBall DVD Sales (Amazon Top Selling 100 Anime 10/8/10)

After all, despite what you may believe the visual quality to be, "Season One" is much more accessible in name and appearance to a casual buyer. The Dragon Boxes are for us . FUNimation knows that we are a much smaller crowd. Which is irritating. I greatly appreciate the content of the se...

Re: How will Funimation's Dragon Box of the movies be released?

I have a vault of Dragon Boxes that I swim in like Scrooge McDuck from Ducktales. Everyone wonders how I can dive in them like water. Yes. Yes, we do. It seems natural that FUNi would put out a collection. They've done mini-collections before like the Broly: Triple Threat box and the double r...

They should be snug, but not that tight, especially after you've taken them out a few times.

And yet tons of people buy HDTVs without getting satellite or HD cable. Especially old people... HD is becoming the new standard, so there's nothing really wrong with going to replace an old TV with an HD set without taking advantage of it with HD material. However... There was that ad a few years ...
