Re: Tired debate, but is a 4:3 presentation of DBZ necessary when we all have 16:9 tv's?
Sure the average person may not care about the difference in aspect ratios....but then surely the same average person wouldn't care about black bars? As long as there's video playing on the TV screen, they should be happy right? And truth be told, I don't care that there are black bars. If I'm watch...

Re: Did Dragon Ball REALLY need Funimation to thrive?
There's also another category of people (who you wouldn't think exist because I guess they're not as vocal online) like myself who like both the Z dub and Kai dub, but for different reasons. While I do think that the Z dub's acting is noticeably green in the early episodes when the 'in-house' cast b...

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular
It's possible that the Blu-rays came from the same scan as the Orange Bricks. That would even make sense since we know that the film was scanned in HD to begin with. But the far-fetched part of the theory to me is that the Blu-rays are upscaled versions of a 480p version of that initial HD scan. I ...

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular
Because there are about 350 scene changes in each episode, and since I'll be generating a montage for each scene, that's 350 lut. The 3 colors used in correction are red, green, and blue. So if you generate a LUT using frames that contain good amounts of these 3 colors, then that LUT should theoret...

Re: Color Correcting the Dragon Box - 3 Part Spectacular
Wait, why does there have to be 350 LUTs for each episode? From what I've read, each episode might have its first and second halves from separate reels. So there would need to be two LUTs (one for each half). And then 1 or 2 for the recap, 1 for the intro, 1 for the credits, and 1 or 2 for the eyeca...

Re: Favorite Falconer Remix?
"Eternal Sacrifice" by Tendril was a pretty cool remix of the main Faulconer Dragonball Z theme. Scott, do you happen to know what the story was behind it? Did Tendril make it independently or was there collaboration with the Faulconer team?

Re: Nostalgia VS Objective Criticism of DBZ VS Kai's English Dubs
Years ago, I was like that. I let nostalgia guide me, without admitting it was nostalgia. Nowadays, I still enjoy many of those same things, but if it's just because of comfort and good memories, I'll openly admit it. There are also things I like a lot that are cheesy or overall not well put togeth...

Re: DBZ Kai The Final Chapters: Disco is Dead Edition
This is a worthy project (although I haven't actually listened to them since I don't have any episodes to mux the audio into yet). But it's a good idea for a project because as I think back on it now, my only significant issue with The Final Chapters' music thus far (having only seen up to the Adult...

Just making sure, Part 1's last episode is the one before Goku and Vegeta begin their fight, right?
(kind of odd if it's true, since the cover shows them fighting, but I guess it makes for a better cover than any other scene before that)

Just saw the latest episode. Great stuff overall. Musically, I wish they'd retire that disco track; no mater how much they try to make it happen....it's not going to happen. But other than that, the music was great. Sumitomo really nails the dramatic moments.

Re: Could the green tint be intentional?
I personally don't feel that it's worth it to color correct Buu Kai since the thing is cropped anyway; it's like trying to polish something that's already been irredeemably butchered. But what would really be cool is Dragon Box footage color corrected to imitate Kai 1.0's colors and synced to Buu Kai.

Re: Kai vs. Z Dub
The Blu Rays do not have Faulconer. I drove all over town looking for something that had it. They aren't easy to find or I would have bought some. No they do. Starting at episode 68, the Season Blu-ray sets with the American Broadcast track selected do have the Faulconer music. Maybe you tried an e...

Re: Kai vs. Z Dub
Sorry, I should have clarified. There are no versions in stores with the Faulconer score anymore and it isn't available from the Funimation site. You have to order specially order old version of the web to hear it. Someone who has no idea wouldn't stumble on it like they used to. I wanted to watch ...

Re: Kai vs. Z Dub
The audience still enjoys DB, but given how many different countries have DB and it's been popular everywhere regardless of the degree of change, and it has been changed to varying degrees from country to country, it's safe to say that it's DB that's popular, not the changes that make it popular. T...

Re: Kai vs. Z Dub
This is a strawman and is riddled with your own opinionated premises. That it's "god awful dialog" while the other has "actual dialog and characterizations" is your subjective premise. Secondly, I'd say that the Kai dub, on the whole, is the better product. That's not a subjecti...

Re: Kai vs. Z Dub
You say all those things about how the cheesy jokes show Freeza's insensitivity, I just hear a bad actress spouting lines by terrible writers. Everyone in that series spouts terrible cheesy jokes, there's no differentiation. It's execution. In essence, everything you say could work, but in this cas...

Re: Kai vs. Z Dub
I never heard any menace from Young's performance. I heard someone attempting to sound menacing. Well I did hear menace in the performance rather than just an attempt at such. It could work if Michael Madsen did it in a Tarantino movie, but it doesn't here. Freeza saying "Pop goes the weasel&q...

For me, it was the deeper-sounding female voice delivered in a gleeful way that often ranged from calm to aggressive....and that paired with his monstrous appearance (especially his 2nd & 3rd forms) made dub Freeza quite nightmare-ish. It wasn't that deep. When it was, it was run through a filt...
