Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 72

Something I have wanted to know for a while, but how is it possible that TAP (Toei Animation Philippines) has worked on animes like Shingeki No Kyojin, Pokemon, Re: Zero, Magi and a lot of animes that aren't from Toei. I mean, this studio is part of Toei am I right? I have never seen Dragon Ball be...

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 72

The ED "animation" really dissapointed me, the ep was ok, I was expecting that but I wasn't expecting something like that in the new ending... The art wasn't even very well drawn either. It doesn't look like Tsuji or Yamamuro to me so I have no clue who supervised it either. I'm surprised...

precita wrote:Vegito appearing for 15 minutes of screentime for a single ep was done for nostalgia and nothing else. Had that scene never happened it wouldn't have made much of a difference.
If we're going to be cynical it's probably more likely that was done for toy sales more than for nostalgia's sake.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 70

Well, something very interesting just popped in my Twitter feed from Jump Festa. The character sheet for Vegetto in his Super Saiyan Blue form:
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cz2MpzDUAAAPPUE.jpg
It's covered in Miyako Tsuji. What?! I don't know whether Tsuji designed this and had ...

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 69

A couple of scenes of wonky artwork aside I really enjoyed this episode. I can't say that I've laughed harder at an episode of Dragon Ball than I have at this one to be honest. I wouldn't have thought this was a Yashima episode (Except for the couple scenes I mentioned) unless I looked at the credit...

Re: Super is TOO anime.

I think this undersells the Japanese pop culture references in the series. For example, there's Shu, the Japanese breed Shiba Inu dog who dresses like a ninja. Then there's the Purple Shogun who uses all sorts of ninjutsu techniques like shurikens and smoke bombs. Karin also looks like a maneki nek...

Re: Is this arc really ruined?

The ending was at the very least awkward, but I don't think it ruined it. There was plenty of action and plot points to make it one of the more interesting arcs of the series, but a rushed ending doesn't undo all of that. Although I would have written a different, more gradual ending to the arc, it ...

Re: Is Dragon Ball a nostalgia-driven franchise?

Considering the fact that Super has retconned and changed a lot of pot points and character traits form the original Dragon Ball and Z I don't think so. To some extend there are fans of Dragon Ball watching it for nostalgia's sake (like probably most of the people on this forum), but there are certa...

Re: Why didn't everyone just transfer their energy to SSJ2 Gohan?

Not sure if this point has already been made, but it basically wasn't a concept until GT or Battle of Gods (can't remember which was first). In universe it is a difficult question to answer, but from a story telling perspective it simply wasn't even a consideration until later in the series.

Re: Why didn't Trunks stay on the main timeline along with Vegeta and others?

Yes, it just makes for an awkward plot point to send Future Trunks and Mai back to their time and away from the main cast. It would have made for a better narrative if Beerus didn't mention that there would be two of each them. Admittedly, the particular sequence detailing that was overall strange....

Re: Why didn't Trunks stay on the main timeline along with Vegeta and others?

It would have made more sense from a strictly character perspective, but I think it would have been a problem for the main timeline to have 2 Mai's and Trunk's running around. From a story-telling perspective it would have created problems as future Trunks has always disappeared after his arc from ...

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 66

The animation was passable in the second half but pretty abysmal in the first half. Basically no movement with mediocre stills. Kitano's corrections or key animation were notably bad. I suppose it was the best they could do with all of Super's best staff working on the previous episode, but was stil...

Re: Dragon Ball Super: KAI [Fan Project]

I'll only comment on your suggested color palette since that is what I have the most experience with. I don't mean to be rude or dismissive, but your corrections actually make the color palette look worse. The amount of saturation in Super even without your corrections is too high. Your correction f...

Did Shida get corrected in his cut? Because the cut away to Vegetto right at the beginning of his cut looks like it was corrected by Karasawa.

Although I actually enjoy Yamamuro, I'd prefer Karasawa as character designer. I like Tate's animation but don't want him as character designer. Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 65

Why is it good to have only the same Chief Supervisor for three episode in a row? It means other Chief Supervisors may focus on another episodes? Most anime only have a single Chief Animation Supervisor (usually the character designer), Super having two has always been a sign of its poor schedule. ...

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 64

I'm not sure if these actually are Shimanuki, but if they are then I'm really impressed. They are channeling the old school character designs excellently and remind me of the old school Shimanuki a ton.
