Why? Maybe his one earring is special.

Re: Should Goku Ever Beat Vegeta?

The only sort of thematic resonance that could conceivably come out of such an event is Vegeta accepting defeat gracefully... which is indirectly what happens in the Buu arc anyway. There's nothing in it for Goku's potential advancement; he would just ask for another round. I don't think the questio...

Re: There can't possibly be a Future Mai.

I have not complained about Mai being in the future/being young because 1) I love Mai, and 2) nothing involving her contradicts anything that happens in the 42 volumes of manga. It's incredibly simple and believable to say "the Androids did not kill Mai or the Pilaf Gang" and "The Pil...

Re: Your Problem(s) with DragonBall Super

JoJo's is exactly as rated as a thirty-year-old-and-still-running comic that got a big Western push only in the last ~5 years could be. It still had a pretty sizable cult following before the David Pro adaptation, too. This series creates a meme every week; "underrated" is not a term you ...

Lol, Toei spending money on redubbing a 500+ episode series.

At this point, I don't think it would affect much beyond maybe the availability of the series. The whole thing is dubbed and ready to sell worldwide.

Re: DBZ Kai Dub and Goku's character

A decent enough compromise for the BoG line, I think, would be "you can't just destroy things!" It doesn't sound awkward and isn't overly superhero-sounding. Don't know if that would exactly fit in the mouth, though.

Re: How were the character dubs cast?

I think it's pretty clear Toriyama is either not consulted on how foreign language dubs work or he just blindly signs off on any changes; not caring what some other country does. Everyone is so quick to yell "EIICHIRO ODA PICKED SONNY STRAIT AS USOPP SHUT UP", but he also approved everythi...

Re: Was the Boo saga endgame for most of the main cast?

Toriyama's a resourceful guy; he has, somehow, been able to take the series to the most logical next step every time he's forced to walk. Maybe it's not the ultra-omega-most interesting thing in the world, but the next step after 42 volumes of battle manga is "holy shit, we're unyeildingly powe...

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion

Not really "news," but Ken Ohtsuka, who works on the show, drew the mysteriously young, not dead Mai. ... And, he uses the word "deformed"; I'm not sure if that's an acknowledgement that there needs to be some explaining of why Mai is around, or if he's being self-critical of his...

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion

So if Toriyama started constructing this arc a year ago, and we first got wind of Super in April 2015, how long do we think he worked on the Universe 6 arc? The fact that they retold the movies more or less tells us the planning stages moved quickly. Probably the same amount of time?

Re: Explaining vs Mystery

If it sheds new light on old characters or colors in a new character, sure. If it's just minutiae to satiate role-playing nerds, then... slightly-less--than-sure. Things like the Shinjin Tree or Buu's true origin are nice, but it doesn't tell us truly new information about the people involved. It's ...

Re: Does Goku respect the Planet Trade Organization?

That was the point I was trying to get across, though. Goku doesn't want to kill people, so why the original poster of this thread theorizes that Goku made special accommodations for the opponents associated with Saiyans or Freeza surprised me. Fans react as if Goku not killing his enemies is weird ...

Re: Rate the Final Battles of each Arc by Stakes

Hunt for the Dragon Balls: 7 . Everybody is about to die. Maybe it's hard to look at it fresh with no hindsight, but it's fairly appropriately thrilling. 21st Budokai: 2 . There's the fakeout that Kame Sennin kills Goku. I don't think most readers would believe he died -died, but they do get exhaust...

Re: Does Goku respect the Planet Trade Organization?

Whenever the topic of Goku not killing his enemies comes up, everyone makes the assumption he is actively, consciously not doing it. Perhaps he's passively not doing it? When he kills all those Red Ribbon soldiers, maybe he was just not holding back, and wasn't setting out to kill them? This seems l...

Re: Dragon Ball's story arcs

I don't know about the Red Ribbon/Uranai Baba split. I mean, it makes as much sense as the Saiyan/Freeza split, but it's so short that it's hard to view it as its own thing. Not to mention, there's no real dip in quality(possibly the opposite) when the mini-tournament starts, so I very arbitrarily c...

Re: Is there really a reason to make Mirai Trunks suffer aga

I never really thought about it in those terms, and I suppose the TV adaptation of Trunks the Story has something to do with why others do. Trunks is on a mission the entirety of the Cell arc; there's really no time to sit and linger and be sad, and he doesn't show it. The most you get is how upset ...

Re: What aspects do you think tarnished the Dragonball brand

I may be misinterpreting what Kei is saying, but not only is it disheartening to hear the show has upset Toriyama, but "having to provide some basic ideas for the plot" sounds like rehashing the Cell arc and Movie 3 is the thing that keeps Toriyama interested. If the brilliant, never-been-...

I'm going to paraphrase another user, I believe it to be the long-gone Dayspring, who noted that the very fact Trunks made any time travel attempts at all irrevocably changed the future. The very fact he's standing in a spot where he's not supposed to be standing, and that dust that was supposed to ...

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion

Well if it is one way, Future Bulma could have Trunks take blue prints of the time machine to past Bulma. If not that Past Bulma could analyze the time machine and figure out how to refuel/make a new one. The general feel I get from the promotional blurb is that Goku Black attacks Trunks and Bulma ...
