Re: Home video release ideas thread
Even if it's niche, there's definitely a collector market for lost, out-of-print, or obscure dubs. *gestures at the majority of Discotek Media's catalogue*

Re: Home video release ideas thread
A "lost dubs" release is a cool idea, and I do believe a release of the work recorded in Canada (Ocean/Westwood Z and Kai) would sell well enough to justify a physical release, even if it was a limited edition. And I doubt it would be prohibitively expensive to license these dubs, given th...

Re: StreamlinePictures had Dragon Ball at one point!?
Slightly off-topic, but... Back in the late 90s/early 2000s, I was of the opinion that either Pioneer or Viz would've snatched up the rights to dub DBZ and release the rest if FUNi were to ever cease dubbing or lose the rights after ep. 52 of their syndicated dub. And the cherry on the top would've ...

Re: Opinions on the original Funi Dragon Ball dub
The (FUNi) dub of DB just baaaarely gets a pass from me because of the original score being kept in and the VA talent having more experience by that point (2001/2002-ish). Also, Brice Armstrong is definitely a contender for best English narrator, right up there with Doc Harris and Doc Morgan. They n...

Re: How do you own the series? (2021 Edition)
How do I own the series? Manga: DB Vols 1-16 (Viz's Shonen Jump-style volumes) DBZ Vols 1 -26 (Viz's Shonen Jump-style volumes) Super Vols. 1-10 (Viz's Shonen Jump-style volumes) All of the Viz "Full Color" releases. I'd love to pick up more if they release more. It's easily my favorite ed...

Re: Would a “true” faithful dub ever be possible?
Not to beat a dead horse, but I think Schemmel's performance is perfectly fine these days. No real qualms. As someone who has long-moved on from the dub and primarily engages with the manga these days and the Super simulcasts/simulpubs... I think Kai/Super/the new movies & games have pretty alri...

Re: People who have managed to have extremely low contact with the manga.
Around 2006 or so, I made an effort to collect every volume of Viz's DB/DBZ release and read the entire manga run from beginning to end. The same with Viz's releases of Jaco and the Yamcha spin-off. Needless to say, I'm extremely proud that I read the whole thing cover-to-cover. It gives me a greate...

Re: Unwatched Movies/Specials
I haven't watched most of the Super Dragon Ball Heroes promo anime. My interest kinda deflated after the first few shorts; it just seems so... unambitious and standard in terms of art, animation, boarding, etc. I'm okay with Dragon Ball specials having simple stories, but this doesn't even try to do...

What is the recommended watch order? Is everything worthwhile? Which formats/releases should I look at? Are there particularly good release versions? I'd prefer good English dubs and accompanying subtitles. Most of the recommendations people have already given here are solid (Starting with DB and g...

Re: What would be your ideal Dragon Ball home release?
This is wishful-thinking, but still would be fun if FUNi or Toei did this: Take the Dragon Box masters for DB/DBZ, properly color-correct them, add the Japanese broadcast audio (we know enough people have it), add the FUNimation dub as an extra audio track, slap it onto some SD Blu-Rays ala Discotek...

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
My gut still tells me they'll probably reprint/repackage these discs for a more general (Walmart, Best Buy) release in about a year or two.
I mean, my gut's been wrong before; but I've been around anime long enough to know that the real popular stuff usually gets a budget release down the road.

Re: Did the Orange Brick 2007 (partial) redub feel pointless overall?
If the re-voiced lines were also re-written, it would've felt like a better use of that money (if any was spent in the first place). That said, Kai's dub has basically made the ol' 1999-2003 dub even more of a relic. It's so good, I've barely watched any DB dubs since then since I feel like Kai was ...

Direct gameplay feed. Sounds like we're getting new arrangements of the Kikuchi score in addition to OG HEAD-CHA-LA and new music.
So that's a good sign, at least.

Re: Funimations 30th anniversary collectible home video release
Shortened link for the FUNi page: https://bit.ly/2Xyjqza I went ahead with the email sign-up. Seriously, FUNimation. Seriously, Toei. It's now or never. 4:3 ratio. Japanese broadcast audio. Uncensored. It's gotta happen now. I don't really see Blu-Ray still being a thing when the 40th anniversary hi...

Re: When are you guys going to watch Broly?
I convinced four friends from work to go see as a group on Friday evening. Should be fun. (Two casual fans who are current with Super, one who is really only into DBZ Abridged, and one who hasn't watched a lick of Dragon Ball material since the Toonami days) Truthfully, I haven't watched very much o...

Re: What will Funimation do with DB after Super ends?
In response to the original question: I have no doubt they'll be plenty busy localizing the rest of Super and the new movie. What I want: - a 4:3 Blu-Ray release of Z (even a bare-bones no-frills release would be fine) - some kind of release containing the Z broadcast audio Wishful thinking in a dre...

I just heard about this through Facebook. The current guest lineup is really cool. I live in Austin and I love that we're getting a DragonBall-centric con so close! I'm really on the tip of ordering a ticket, but I'm waiting to see what Japanese guests (if any) we'll be getting. Voice actors? Artist...

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Before the dub the U.S Dragon Ball fandom was practically nonexistent. Honestly it feels like some of you are using your hatred of the dub to not give Funi any credit for their role in popularizing DBZ in America. It's true that the English version of DB/DBZ did increase the popularity of the franc...
