Re: Dub lines that you find interesting.

I'm not really a fan of the FUNimation dubs of Dragon Ball. I've only ever watched a few clips of it online. That said, one FUNi dub line that I find interesting is Boo's "Super Saiya-jin?" line when Goku is showing him his SS1, SS2 and SS3 transformations. I wonder why FUNimation did that...

Re: Things that grind your gears

When people say things like Super Saiyan Kami or Dragon Ball Chou to refer to SSGod or Super, like, this series has used "Engrish" all the time, for lots of things that didn't to have them there but they are, it's kind of a thing with this series. Do people really say that? I've never hea...

Re: Do the Canadian-French watch French-France dubbed Dragon Ball series/movies?

Latin America and Spain. The reason why the Mexican dub is usually referred to as the "Latin American" dub is because it was aired in all Latin America/Central and South America (Except for Brazil). Also, Mexico isn't the only country that produces dubs for Latin American. Argentina, Chil...

Re: Do the Canadian-French watch French-France dubbed Dragon Ball series/movies?

Mexico and Spain don't seem to share dubs much. In the past, sometimes Portugal would borrow dubs from Brazil like with Disney movies. Latin America and Spain. The reason why the Mexican dub is usually referred to as the "Latin American" dub is because it was aired in all Latin America/Ce...

Re: DBZ Blu-ray Orange Bricks are here to stay - "This is truly the best possible way to watch Dragon Ball Z"

Yes. I still haven't bought those yet. But I will eventually. To be honest it doesn't bother me that much that they're just FUNimation Blu rays synced with the Latin American audio. Mostly because the movies were intended to be viewed in 16:9. If you're into the Mexican dub then that's understandab...

Re: DBZ Blu-ray Orange Bricks are here to stay - "This is truly the best possible way to watch Dragon Ball Z"

I just really want an official home release of the Latin American dub. ZIMA has been releasing Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT content on Blu-ray with the Mexican dub but all of it is FUNimation-remastered, whether for the better or worse. At the very least, it's nowhere near as bad a...

Re: Watching Dragon Ball with kid(s) and their thoughts/reactions

Which story are you talking about? This: some of the dialogue in the original dub was too damaged and they had to be redubbed. As far as I know only a couple of lines were redubbed in the Garlic Jr. Arc. Which lasted only a couple of seconds. The "official" reason as to why those 15-20 se...

Re: DBZ Blu-ray Orange Bricks are here to stay - "This is truly the best possible way to watch Dragon Ball Z"

I think the problem with the original run of Dragon Ball from the 80s to the 90s is the fact that it's just so old at this point, I can't see most of it gaining any benefits from being released in the next big standard: Ultra HD. Combine that with the fact that you'd need to transfer 291 episodes f...

Why on earth would an entire country get hyped over this? Even Japan isn't doing this.
Because people on that country really love Dragon Ball?

Re: DBZ Blu-ray Orange Bricks are here to stay - "This is truly the best possible way to watch Dragon Ball Z"

I would disagree. Chris Sabat has the Japanese broadcast audio now, so Funimation have at least one specific reason to think about when considering doing a new release of Dragon Ball Z. Add to that the fact Funimation basically like to re-release Z at every opportunity they get, and I really think ...

Re: Watching Dragon Ball with kid(s) and their thoughts/reactions

I'd rather not have scenes dubbed now and then some dubbed back in the 80's. They would clash horribly. Especially since France was the first European country to get Dragon Ball and that shows in the audio quality. We had the same situation in Latin America, No, we didnt dub cut footage, but some o...

Re: Is the dub of Kai worth a shot for an indifferent fan?

Why would someone in Brazil care for the FUNi dub or the Latin American dub? ...because the Brazilian dubs have used scripts from Funi's dub (Kai) and the Latin American dubs (much of the pre-Kai material)? There are several other cases where dubs reuse scripts from another dub instead of going str...

Re: Is the dub of Kai worth a shot for an indifferent fan?

Yes the FUNi dubs (Z, Kai, Super, etc) all aired on several English speaking countries like the U.S, U.K, Australia, New Zeland, English speaking Asian countries, etc. Not exactly. The UK, Canada, and some parts of Europe got the Ocean dub instead. Speaking as a Brit who's always preferred the Ocea...

Re: Is the dub of Kai worth a shot for an indifferent fan?

I understand how SuperCyan2 feels. The FUNi dub isn't The Dub . It's not the only dub. It's just another foreign dub. A very popular foreign dub that is. I also understand what Ajay said. This is an English speaking forum. So it's assumed that when someone says "the dub", they mean the Eng...

Re: Why does Funimation refuse to acknowledge the term "Ki"?

Ki is simply the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese word "Chi" or "Qi" (same as "Shenron" is for "Shen Long" or "Shuushinchuu" is for "Si Xing Qiu"), a concept which has existed for thousands upon thousands of years. Saying that Toriyam...

Re: Why does Funimation refuse to acknowledge the term "Ki"?

And in this case, Ki to energy. (which I'm not too sure if "Ki" is an actual Japanese world that means energy or a word invented by Toriyama that means energy) Ki is simply the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese word "Chi" or "Qi" (same as "Shenron" is for...

Re: Why does Funimation refuse to acknowledge the term "Ki"?

Or Spongebob to Bob Esponja. I wonder, if they did that for the pun. That was certainly the first thing I thought of! They simply adapted Spongebob into Spanish. Either name, Spongebob or Bob Esponja, would've been okay really. It depends on the dub. For example, Spider-Man is usually translated to...

Re: Why does Funimation refuse to acknowledge the term "Ki"?

Why would they though? Ki is a Japanese word. Translated, it basically does just mean life energy. Why would they randomly leave this word untranslated? You mean like Kaioken, Masensko, and Senzu? Personally I do think that translating names/words is okay in dubs. Like translating Final Flash to Re...

I don't see why people think it's okay to download copyrighted material for free like the DragonBall series when people like me have had to pay for it. It's just entertainment and you're not entitled to it, even if you don't like the way the series was or is released. The series isn't released. If ...

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread

Just a quick question, but do all the people who hate and bash the FUNimation dub and the voice actors even watch Dragon Ball Super dubbed in English? Because if they have this abysmal hate for it I actually doubt they can stand watching through it and watching a full episode dubbed by FUNimation. ...
