Re: Why didn't KAI started by the first Saga of Dragon Ball?
It would have been cool but as others have said Z is the money maker. The point of Kai was to make maximum profit using minimal effort so starting with the original less popular series would have been an unnecessary risk. I have a theory that in any DB related material the longer it takes for Vegeta...

Re: Question about Toei's marketing motives
Well that's a relief. It's getting late, so I didn't want to get sucked into the conversation too much  Of course, I also feel the same about Buu. I never got the "comedy" vibe from him, more like the "irony" vibe. Not to mention the "psychopathic, murderous, soull...

Re: Question about Toei's marketing motives
No, I recognize the humor present in the Ginyu Force. Also, I did not claim that the actions I mentioned make the show more "dark." I'm just sick of everyone visualizing the Ginyu force as a comedy troope whenever the topic of "seriousness" pops up. They aren't jokesters, they a...

Re: Question about Toei's marketing motives
I feel like a lot of people miss the part where the Ginyu force is trying to brutally murder the main characters. Do people just forget the part where Guldo is preparing to impale Krillin and Gohan with a tree? Or the part where Ginyu punches a hole in his own chest? So funny, right? Are you really...

Yes, the giant foppish dude with busted up teeth and his ass crack out in the open dancing around is super serious. You're right. I forgot.Rocketman wrote: *Snip*

Re: Question about Toei's marketing motives
Except there's basically nothing lighthearted about the Saiyan/Namek/Android/Cell arcs, sure. The entire series is lighthearted. It's about giant muscle men fighting aliens and robots until they stop moving sometimes doing so by firing laser beams that they shoot out of their hands. I don't even re...

I've always wondered how often gags like these were. Was it a straight up constant comedy dub or did they just crack jokes like this once in awhile?

Re: Why was Pan overemphasized in GT?
If I had to guess I’d assume they just wanted a fresh face in the main cast. Someone we haven’t seen too much of before. Why that cast member wasn’t Oob I’m not certain. That really seems like the obvious choice. Someone joked about fanservice and after reading Masamitsu Hidaka's interview that expl...

Re: The ending of Dragon Ball
It's really dumb that the series had a "the adventure continues" ending right there, but they keep jamming more and more stuff in before it. It feels like they're so desperately trying to avoid stepping on GT's toes that they're instead trampling on all the material before it that was wor...

Re: What made GT so bad ?
The biggest offender to me is the dull writing. The characters travel all across the universe and all the writers can come up with is shit like robot planet, greedy planet and giant planet. Those incredibly basic premises can be salvaged by unique and interesting ideas but you won’t find that in GT....

Re: For dub fans, how much of a deal breaker is Nozawa's gok
While I enjoy the Japanese version of the show I understand completely why Nozawa can be seen as off putting. I think her performance as Goku was shaped a lot by how she voiced him in the original Dragon Ball anime series. A lot of the time her line reads are very exaggerated and cute. When I think ...

Re: DBZ in HD
The Simpsons reruns on FXX look vomit inducing too. I've been seeing more and more cropped and filtered footage pop up in my day to day. I guess the majority of people are totally okay with this kind of treatment. It does make me feel a little bit better that we're not the only ones in this boat tho...

Re: If you could only show one DBZ volume(VHS) to your frien
If you own either the Bardock or Trunks special I would recommend those. They're self contained stories that you don't really need any prior knowledge going into. They're pretty heavy on story and action. It's some of the best material the franchise has to offer. The movies are pretty good too if yo...

Re: Am I the only one who hates all these new movies?
I don’t feel like the barrage of lackluster material is anything new. Every summer Toei would pump out cash grab movies when the anime and manga were ongoing. I think everyone has rose tinted goggles for these flicks because they were here long before the core fans picked up their first VHS fansub b...

Re: Who are your favorite voices in DB(Z/GT/Kai)?
It’s rough for me to play favorites with the Japanese cast so I decided to challenge myself in another way and praise the English dub a bit. Sonny Straight as Krillin has always been one of my favorite voices in the dub. It’s vastly different than his Japanese counterpart but Sonny really made that ...
