Re: Kai Episode 99 (06 April 2014)
I actually think that Toei's approach to monetising Dragonball actually has a negative effect on how the brand is perceived in Japan, especially when it's done cheaply or without a great deal of care. So would you say that Kai as a series is a cheap unnecessary rehash? Or do you have a problem with...

Re: Kai Episode 99 (06 April 2014)
All in all, it's obviously clear where Toei's priorities lay and Dragonball Kai, more now than it has ever been, is a low cost cash-cow turned TV schedule stop-gap. I'm just genuinely curious, and don't mean this disparagingly, but do you find this low cost approach to Kai problematic? I think that...

Re: Kai Episode 99 (06 April 2014)
I actually really enjoyed this first episode of the Buu arc. I thought the music really worked for me, along with the new intro and outro songs as well. They really pump me up and get me excited to watch some DB! As far the budget restraints go, and the lack of animation quality in the intro/outro, ...

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (Tankōbon April
Well, as the creator, he's free to tell the events of something if he so chooses to, and if they contradict something done by an anime adaptation or a side story by another creator, I'd say what he says goes over their works. Whether it's for the best or not is up to the individual to decide based ...

Re: Just started King Piccolo saga
I absolutely adore and love me some King Piccolo.
It has some of my favorite moments in all of DB/DBZ, right up there with Tai Pao Pao's introduction and ensuing fights with young Goku. Hope you enjoy it!

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
Am I the only one that thinks the Seasons set looks way better than the Dragonbox? The Dragonbox is too grainy, I even showed a couple of my friends and they agreed. Honestly I'd much rather trade somewhat less accurate colors and a different aspect ratio for HD. While you may be in the minority he...

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (Tankōbon April
You know - normally I'm pretty disparaging towards over-protective fans that take issue against creators going back and revising, or changing elements of their creation. My usual thought is: 'like it or not - the guy who wrote the story, who created the characters, has total discretion over the uni...

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (Tankōbon April
Well I just went through Dragon Ball Minus and consider me very underwhelmed. I would have rather had Toriyama use the Bardock story that we are familiar with, and perhaps explore some of the background of the Planet Trade Organization, or something much more interesting than an arguably weake...

Re: The best age to get someone into Dragon Ball
You guys have to be trolling me? If you had children....you would HONESTLY! be okay with exposing them to naked children on TV? That's messed up. Well for one, I'd be totally fine with it. Maybe it's just a cultural thing but a lot of my relatives' children play together half naked all the time. Gi...

Re: The best age to get someone into Dragon Ball
Well according to my family and brother, I first started watching DBZ heavily when I was three years old. Obviously I don't remember things that well from that age but I think a lot of that adds to my adult enjoyment nowadays, at least on a subconscious level. I'd say that any age is good for introd...

Re: Dragon Ball Z "Seasons" On Blu-ray: News & Discussion
Funimation decided to release a trailer for season 3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIygQGi8elY That trailer gives me a serious old-school Toonami vibe. I like it. Same here. I have to say, whoever is in charge of marketing over there is doing a pretty great job. I really have enjoyed these short ...

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (Tankōbon April
So. Viz is releasing the special chapter in next week's Jump issue~ . In everything but exact name they spell out that it's pretty much guaranteed to be Dragon Ball Minus . I was pleasantly surprised to hear this news! I'm glad that Viz is at least offering something for people here in North Americ...

Re: When did Dragonball change its tone?
Has anyone else noticed that the fight with Ma Junior is kind of a mini preview of Dragon Ball Z? The beam struggle and the charge up of ki are what definitely stand out to me. I was watching the fight today with my wife and we both agreed that the fight with Goku and Piccolo seemed to be vastly dif...

Re: BOG Licensed for US Release?
DBE bombed because it looked bad. The fans and the general movie goers rejected the movie, and there was no hype for the movie at all. If Fox does release BOG, it won't be a major release. Some people hope for a major release, but I don't see that happening. I guess around 200 - 500 screens is poss...

Re: Why didn't Mr. Popo take down Daimao?
He tried that in the 23rd Budokai arc with the Mafuba though. I'd assume the idea there is that he's not going to die from using the Mafuba, since he's so much stronger than Mutaito/Kame-sennin were. At any rate, he flat-out tells Goku when they first meet that gods can't commit suicide. So if the ...

Re: Why didn't Mr. Popo take down Daimao?
Its basically the same reason why God in the real world doesn't step down and deals with our problems, if we believe in His existence. If we are to believe that God exists, then the question naturally becomes why does he allow evil and suffering on our world. The most common answer is that we must ...

Re: Is Yamcha's Death Iconic?
That's actually very true. I never really put much thought into his death in the Saiyan arc, but it is rather tragic (though I guess all of them are in a way).eledoremassis02 wrote:I think, at least for me, he died is a rather realistic pose. It really stuck out from the rest I think.

Re: Why didn't Mr. Popo take down Daimao?
You know, the more I think about it, the more it bugs me that Popo or Kami didn't go down. I mean, in the 23rd Budokai Tenkaichi Kami goes down to participate in the tournament to seal "Ma-Junior" away with the Mafuba because he had witnessed its use by humans. But wouldn't have Kami have ...

People around this forum have mentioned that there has indeed been an official Mainland release but I've yet to see it for myself. It'd be great if someone could post more information on the official PRC release if anyone has it.UltimateHammerBro wrote:Has there been an official Chinese release?

Re: Initial Reaction to Nozawa as Goku
If anything, the deep muscle bound voices of the Funimation dub with their limited range and lack of depth in their acting, is what is laughable. But that's just me. They've grown over the years, and fit their characters. Certainly they've grown over the years. But in my opinion, the quality of the...
