Kenji Yamamoto Music Scandal Affects Video Games

Post by DragonBoxZTheMovies » Fri Oct 07, 2011 12:30 am

So a while ago a video was posted showcasing 'Raging Blast 2' with the replacement music from 'Budokai Tenkaichi 2'. It was considered
fake by a poster on this forum though so I decided to ignore it. Months later I was browsing Youtube when I came across the 'RB2' opening with a comment saying:
On my copy the theme from Budokai Tenkaichi 2 plays instead of this song
I went pack to the other video and I saw comments from another user saying they had a similar copy. Here's the video:

Completely negative. As it's not Yamamoto who composed music to Sparking and Raging Blast series, but Kishi Toshiyuki.
Who also did Tenkaichi Daiboken on Wii (Music from US/EU Sparking series).....
Yamamoto is responsible only for Budokai series, Inifinite World and Burst Limit.
We are talking about PS2, PS3 and XBOX Generation.

Edit: Now I learned that RB2 music is probably by Yamamoto after all.....
Damn, I never noticed as the music is simmilar a lot to the previous and I really liked it a lot.
As I don't like much the music from Budokai and like the Sparking series better.

Wow, I never thought this would happen. Yamamoto really brought some big trouble to people involved. Now I'm concerned about the Japanese version, but I think they didn't bother to make the alternative version of it because the game didn't sell well in Japan.

Wow, finally listened to that. That really sucks, the original music in RB2 is pretty good and I like it a lot.
I wonder if the European versions of the game met the same fate and I hope my disc won't damage enough as yours to have me buy a new one

Kei I think the Japanese version still used Kikuchi midis anyway.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Actually the Japanese version has the both synthesized Kikuchi score and Yamamoto's new music. The latter is included as an unlockable bonus. It's why they once planned to release "DRAGON BALL RAGING BLAST 2 ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK OVERSEAS VERSION", which has been canceled.

So you can change the music in the same fashion as we are changing the voices from english to japanese here?

You simply have 55 pieces. There is even no need to change any options.

Not surprising. Thanks to Yamamoto you can now rule out any re-releases of the PS2 games he had a hand in.

And also any Virtual Console releases of the old SNES games. GAH.

My version for PS3 doesn't sound like this. Could this mean that mine is rare?

I doubt it's all copies (I have a copy for 360, and don't believe my music has been swapped, but I bought it at the game's launch). More like any reprints.

I meant to say reprints, oops :P I love the Tenkaichi 2 music, I tempted to go rent a copy at Blockbuster to see if this continued in my area :D

Wow, I’m really surprised with this turn of events, i considered that Namco Bandai would just leave the video games since they had already been printed/released Pre-scandal. can someone find out if this is a worldwide change or just in the NTSC American Reprints of the games.

Every time I think this scandal is done something new surprises me. thats why i love Mike's Kenji Yamamoto Retrospective page LOL.

Someone should tell Mike, he would probably get a kick out this and he has to update his feature. :) Either way he will enjoy the irony of a replacement score for the replacement score. BTW I guess I should buy this game used, if I want the old score, which I do, because I want the vocal opening.

I see the thread :). Very interesting. I'd want to independently confirm on my own, but I have no desire to go purchase another copy...

I'll at least check in with Namco-Bandai to see if they have any kind of statement about it, but I kinda doubt I'll get anything out of anyone there.

Probably I'm going to ask Bandai Namco Japan about this.

....Only just realised this, same with my PS3 version (UK/Europe). I wondered why I wasn't hearing Omega Battle.

This concerns me then, but I'm only aiming to buy the Limited Edition so it shouldn't have changed anything since only thirty thousand copies were made.

The LE edition is turning out quite expensive, need to do more research.

Only really interested on the LE because of that Goku cell frame, maybe it's not worth it. Dunno.
