I've been playing through Xenoverse 2 lately, and while it is addicting, it's also so incredibly shallow. Every PQ is the same now: start with full ki, go Super Vegeta, start spamming Gigantic Roar and Supernova Cooler, and then close to the end, start using Z capsules for health regen and power, and voila— Z rank in about 5 to 7 minutes. Literally every one, save any that involve escorts/protection (and even then!)
I don't even like using any character other than my CaC entirely because I can't be sure they'll have Maximum Charge— quite literally a fundamental move every character (arguably barring the artificial humans) ought to have, yet they saw the need to waste an attack slot for.

Why can't I charge using Block + X (on the PS4) and have an extra super attack slot to use? Was it really so fucking necessary to strip out such a fundamental move that even Dragon Ball Z: Sagas had? Oh, don't stop there. Why not make blocking an equipable skill too? Or shooting ki blasts, because maybe you'd rather a purely physical character! Or a purely ki character! Go all out, take out literally every basic skill you need in a Dragon Ball Z fighting game and set them onto slots that take up good space that could've been used for special attacks— no one actually cares about those, right?

And that's just the surface of the problems of I have with the game. You can definitely tell that it's still a "Dark Age of Dragon Ball" sort of game in its cost-saving design mentalities, even though I'd argue it came out a year after the Dark Age ended.

For me, it's like the difference between Ultimate Tenkaichi and Sagas. I rage so much about Ultimate Tenkaichi because I can see a good game in the semi-liquid shit. I never had any high hopes for Sagas and there wasn't much good that could've come out of it to begin with because it was a 1997 3D beat 'em up in the mid-2000s. "3D", "beat 'em up/brawler", and "2000s" don't belong in the same sentence. Outside of hack and slash games, beat 'em ups never made the jump to 3D as far as I'm concerned. Perhaps that's why Atari had to brand it as a "free-form open world fully destructible sandbox" game. But that's beside the point. The point is, I never cared about Sagas and it occupies so little of my gaming attention, even as a Dragon Ball fan, that I don't think any facet of my life would change if it never existed— go back to prerelease 2005 and I'd say the same thing, that it's not a game I'm particularly interested in. Compare that to Ultimate Tenkaichi, a game that had a crazy amount of potential, all of it oozing from every pore of the game's skin, and yet it's still a 30-something bum fucking around at home leeching off its parents making vague promises of some future windfall, except not even that. You feel much more strongly about a crushing failure to launch than something that was never going to launch at all.

That's how I feel about Xenoverse 2 right about now. Every time I play it, I keep encountering new things that piss me off and make me go "Why didn't they do this or that?"
And what makes it ten times as frustrating is when I can point to Sagas and Ultimate Tenkaichi— two stinky piles of ineptitude— and say "They did these things better."


I've said it so many times now that I can at least understand why Xenoverse 1 and 1.5 were the way they are: the Dragon Ball IP earlier in the decade was close to being a throwaway, where a single million seller would've doubled the IP's entire net worth, and thus developers weren't going to pump in loads of money to something they knew will only make a fraction of it back. But that's the same reason why I'm already prepared to rake Xenoverse 3 through the coals: the brand is now worth over a billion dollars a year, literally 50x more than it was worth in 2011-2012. If Xenoverse 3 still feels as floaty and unpolished as Xenoverse 2, then that would be some fuck right there.

Wow. Okay, this is something that I would've never seen coming. But to be fair, who really expected this? This is Dimps' biggest surprise announcement since the probably entire game's announcement. But it's a very pleasant surprise. It really showed that there any character from the franchise's history, including original characters from other games, can be possible in the world of Xenoverse. Well done, Dimps, I'm very impressed. Can't wait for the DLC.

Why and how Android 21 coming to Xenoverse makes it "the biggest surprise announcement"? Her clothes are in the game due to a collaboration and so many expected the character to make her way into Xenoverse. If anything, it was a surprise they took this long to add her to the roster. Not to mention her popularity.

I think that claim fits Fu better. Fu wasn't popular at all, only those who were really fan of Dragon Ball Online knew about him and he came from a guidebook. I literally jumped off the chair when it was confirmed to be him. :D

I couldn't care less about Android 21, I was hoping something from the ToP, the movie (FighterZ is having Ikari, SS and FP SS Broly) or even GT, and if it is something from other games I'd prefer Cumber or Hearts.

With PS5 coming out next year, I guess this game will never give me what I want.

So, so, so glad we got the regular #21 in Xenoverse; while I certainly know the Majin version is typically the way bigger waifu figure in most communities.... the Buu cells thing seemed completely shoehorned in to me and ruined what I felt was a more visually pleasing design (the checkerboard dress.... Truth be told it's a downright shame we didn't get regular #21 in Fighterz itself, and while I've skimped out on all the DLC for Xenoverse 2 thus far, I'm at least glad and supportive of the choice. I think she'll probably have Majin form at least as a alt costume. Or get it in XV3. Maybe transform breifly as part of an alt.
The fact she's in XV means she's alsmost certainyl in XV3, and her and others will quite possibly get their missing forms then.
So this is progress. Presumably get that missing JP only costume we were promised if we bought FighterZ.

So aren't we overdue for a stroy mode DLC?

If so I did wonder what they could cover, too few chars still for the ToP and Moro is unfinished. The movie's been mostly done in PQ's...

I kinda wonder if they will do FighterZ story with Xeno elements. They would make evil clone alts of all the existing chars easy peasy.
And hero's had like a little recap mission so there's actually a unusual bit of precedent for Xeno stuff redoing FZ...

I really hope we get legend patrol at some point too, but starting to worry we wont.
We need an increase in the figure storage for HC.

Yamcha wanted to get married (it was his gonna be his wish)
He suggested they settle down in the Trunks saga.
Alternate future Trunks is not a reliable source.
Toriyama wanted new SSJ Kids and not make new characters.

At this point, that's the main thing I really want too. I plan to re-play the story modes of XV1 and 2 before 3 eventually comes out, and that'd be a hell of a lot easier with XV2's engine than actually playing XV1 again.
