It definitely brings out the idea better. Slow things down enough and it all sounds like background.Gonstead wrote:Oh I know that. It's just that version (at least to me) is more memorable.

I feel like your Gero theme is one of those under-appreciated tracks that are rarely ever lauded as a result of their obscurity. A new theme in that style would be amazing.

That actually sounds really good! I can imagine the 2nd part when Piccolo finally becomes young. Starting moody and mysterious; and following up to triumphant evil works well with King Piccolo.cRookie_Monster wrote:For King Piccolo, I'm thinking more of a classic orchestral kind of score, starting with bass clarinet maybe? kinda like the Japanese score would do. Honestly, I mainly know King Piccolo from DBZ flashbacks, so I need to go back and watch some DB. Any suggestions on shows to watch or sounds anyone else would like to hear?
Hmm, looking back through my old work, it might start something like the first half of this: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=7460080 and progress into something like this: http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=7882079

Can you make something similar to "Yamcha meets Droids"? I really liked that one, especially that ending.

I'm about 50% done with the King Piccolo theme. It's fun because it sounds fairly different than anything I've ever done before I'll update again when it's finished

Awesome! So totally excited!
As for a suggestion, do you think you could produce a Cell track based on the music compositons by Kikuchi heard in this vid? I've lately taken a real liking to the Cell era tracks - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhwCsvN3D24

Hey there Scot. You've done(and are continuing to do) truly awesome stuff, in and outside of dragonball Z (particularly liked, to give one in a different style to what you usually make, 'Night Sky', made me feel some nostalgia for the computer game Diablo, tristram's theme XD) awesome to see you have a hangout here on a dbz forum, during dbz you made some of my favourite compositions in the show, and many truly iconic pieces.
For my suggestion, perhaps a slow theme, similar to the beginning of thesuper buu theme(though not sure how you feel about that since it isn't yours) and some of the slower parts in your deadzone theme. I could see something pretty awesome coming from that, though i can understand if your enigma song (well, about 50 seconds in) satisfied any slower-paced guitar shredding itches you might have had (great work there btw) for the moment.
Or for something a little looser in terms of suggestion, you made imperfect cell bad ass and distinctive, and his perfect theme stood as equally iconic and awesome. Why not try giving semi-perfect cell a specific theme that stands out in the same way? Or give frieza a more dedicated 'theme' (while there were elements, i feel a lot of the frieza themes kinda came from the general ambience of namek rather than the tyrant himself, would be interesting to see your take on him for a straight 'frieza theme', or maybe more specifically a monstrous theme to go with his monstrous third form).
Anyway, can't wait to hear what you're gonna do with Piccolo.

If I were to make two more suggestions it would be a theme for Dr Wheelo that's either an old fashion "WOO WEE WOO" UFO SCI FI piece or a bombastic orchestral piece like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfOqqEj_ip0 or somehow a mix of both. And a theme for Tao Pai Pai and Crane Hermit that's sort of like one of Gen's themes from Street Fighter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUS-fxZCQw8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvLbClCQlOA

Totally awesome! Sounds almost like something Funimation would have used if they re-scored the original Dragon Ball.

Re: One more time: Z Music suggestions :)
Thanks It had a rough start on Youtube, but I added some explanations about the character and things seem to be going better now. I think people may not get how slow, big, and old King Piccolo was at first...and don't like that I depicted that musically. Just a hunch anyway, maybe it just sucks^^. I'm glad you guys like, I feel more sure you know the character. I had to go back and watch most of the saga to really get the right picture, and if I had to do that...I'm probably not alone.Gonstead wrote:Totally awesome! Awesome work, I've already listened to it many times over these last few days XD,
Also this made me realise a good suggestion:
You did so well with the 'first' demon king, you should do one for dbz's 'real' makaioshin, demon king Dabura.
He was under-appreciated but i always really liked him, design, powers, voice, he was one cool cat. I know he was basically used as a plot device to show off fat buu's strength/deadliness really, but i kinda think it would have been cool to see him get more of the limelight.

I, personally, would love to hear a new Perfect Cell theme. Something very industrial, & mechanical sounding,to emphasize that he is the ultimate android. Maybe some influence from things like this, @ 1:13:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwgRaVkv3Ww
While I love his motif in the show, I always felt it was lacking the mechanical vibe you worked into his Imperfect themes, in particular the percussion. It wasn't sinister enough. I always felt that kind of thing fit him more than siren-esque synth leads.

Re: One more time: Z Music suggestions :)
The Terminator-esque industrial/mechanical sound was used for Dr. Gero's motif actually. If I recall, Mike decided upon a clean synth lead for Perfect Cell to emphasize his perfection--whereas Imperfect Cell was granted dirtier, grungier ones.MalikArcanum wrote:I, personally, would love to hear a new Perfect Cell theme. I believe Nathan Johnson has you covered there. His score for World's Finest was rife with it.If I were to make two more suggestions it would be a theme for Dr Wheelo that's either an old fashion "WOO WEE WOO" UFO SCI FI piece

Re: One more time: Z Music suggestions :)
Yup, that distinction between the perfect and imperfect cell sounds was actually a mandate directly from Funimation. They specified a grungier sound for imperfect and a cleaner sound for Perfect. I thought the synth lead sound Mike chose for Perfect Cell was a pretty cool idea I might do something similar. I'm finishing off a score for a friend soon and then I'll probably start playing around with Perfect Cell theme ideas. My vision on that is still kinda blurry, so I might just start trying out a lot of sounds until something clicks. I could see a clean lead with heavier background. That's essentially what Mike did actually, he had synth guitars/and a rock band underneath that synth lead.Lord Exor wrote:The Terminator-esque industrial/mechanical sound was used for Dr. Gero's motif actually. Oh don't get me wrong, Perfect Cell's theme is one of my favorite motifs of the Funimation tracks. I just thought it would be cool to hear something a bit more menacing.

I wouldn't mind if there was some Front-Line Assembly thrown into the inspiration for some (Imperfect) Cell music.

Hmm, I just got an idea...that I might have done in the first place if I had written both themes. Imperfect Cell -> ??? -> Perfect Cell should be a progression of a single theme, evolving. Wow, did I just commit to three themes?? I like the Front line Assembly and could hear elements surviving the whole process.
