Cell's theme always creeped the shit out of me, might not sound as dark as some of the others on here but I find it quite unnverving.

Best dark track though easily goes to "The Dead Zone Is Summoned Up" especially when it was used during Goku's first Super Saiyan transformation.

Speaking of Cell themes, I was talking to Scott Morgan (CrookieMonster on Kanzenshuu, a member of the team that did the Faulconer score) a while back, and he was looking for suggestions for DBZ themes. I suggested Baby Cell, and he made this. It's pretty spooky.

The Nathan Johnson and Faulconer Productions scores, most definitely.

Frieza's theme is an underappreciated, rather chilling piece. There still doesn't appear to be any consensus as to just who wrote it.
"My dear friend, how can I make this even more painful for you? I could crush your hands, rip off both of your ears, or maybe I'll just smash in your tiny little cranium. Ehehehehehehehe."

Just thought i'd add a few of the darker Levy tracks

It's hard to believe the same guy who composed music for shows like Barbie and Inspector Gadget was behind this :wtf:
Sometimes i get the impression the music in that score was just a collection of Saban music that was considered too dark to make it onto Power Rangers.

"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

I'm only really familiar with Team Faulconers score, so I'll name off some of tracks that give off a pretty dark/creepy vibe IMO.

Eerie Suspense - [unreleased]
Frieza Suspense - [unreleased]
Goku's Nightmare
Cell Absorbs Droid - [unreleased]
Evil Majin Theme
Android 17 & 18
Trunks Stews - [unreleased]
Devastation
Dead Zone
Planet Namek Explodes - [unreleased]
Ginyu Transformation
Long Flashback
Cell Jr's Theme - [For some reason the creepy violin part of the song that played in the anime wasn't included on the CD version.]
Cell Returns
Cell At Carnival
Weird & Backwards
Evil Suspense (With Choir) - [unreleased]
My Youtube account (Coycoy88)

I primarily rip and upload unreleased Faulconer Productions music, as well as some other American dub music.

That is pretty spooky. I feel like this piece would fit perfectly in an early Metroid game. Specifically, Super Metroid. I can just imagine hearing it in the title screen.

Back to the topic, I grew up with the Levy and Wasserman score and still think the all around feel of the music was the darkest the show's ever sounded. The way it drones on, the heavy drum pounds, the screeching string highs reminicient of Psycho, and what vaguely sounds like choir chanting is just insane for a kids show.

This clip best shows how dark the music could sound during that era:

For Kikuchi, I guess his scores for Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle and The World's Strongest would be the "darkest," but even they have their share of lighthearted material. It's really hard to pinpoint an overall dark score from him, since most of his material we hear throughout the series is taken from the movies, save for a few cues here and there. His scores for the films are more on the dramatic scale, with not much room for anything overly dark from beginning to end. We have a few eerie pieces here and there to convey a sense of foreboding before things hit the fan, and then the later parts of each film's score is mostly the standard fun-filled, grandiose, and action-packed stuff. For a TV series-specific specific, that one sinister cue that plays with bits of "We Were Angels" (heard in the second half of "Believe in Tomorrow..." on the soundtrack) is pretty tense and dark.

Sumitomo's Resurrection 'F' score is pretty "dark", which one would expect considering it's a film about Freeza. Super has had some dark soundtracks, too.
