I swear oh my god, did he wrote the insert song or atleast arrange it?? because some parts of it blended so freaking well with his orchestra style.

Sumitomo's compositions in the Universal Survival arc, have been nothing short of excellent. Episode 109 really has some of his best work since he started composing scores for Dragon Ball.

It's definitely an all-around better score, and I certainly don't mind the arrangements compared with what came before...

But this still isn't Dragon Ball to me. Some of the jazzy pieces sorta kinda approach it, but only in the way that Yamamoto/Tower of Power compositions only kinda approach the same thing, except now it's by proxy two generations back.

I still feel like I'm watching someone else's interpretation of Dragon Ball, rather than actual Dragon Ball. And in many ways, that's exactly what it is, so I can't entirely fault them for delivering a thing that is the thing it's supposed to be.

I still keep thinking back to some of those tracks in little ol' Dragon Ball Fusions on 3DS, though. In all my years involved with this franchise, that was the only experience where my jaw dropped and this unbelievable joy just swelled up. THAT was Dragon Ball music, and it's crazy that a portable video game was the thing to do it, rather than the actual animated product.

I understand why you feel that way. Sumitomo's score certainly sound very Hollywood blockbuster film-esque, as supposed to something you'd hear in an martial arts TV show. But I don't find that as an inherently bad thing. It's still mostly good music, but I would certainly agree that it's not something you would attribute to hearing in wuxia influenced story like Dragon Ball.

Just out of curiosity: who did make the music for Dragon Ball Fusions?

This just might be my favourite Sumitomo track in all of Super. It went so well with the action and had me on the edge of my seat. That scene was amazing.

I'm also so happy that they finally used the slow orchestral version of Limit Break x Survivor right before Goku went to attack Jiren while using Ultra Distinct. We haven't heard that track since it was first introduced in Episode 84.

Yamamoto's Kai Score did had some wuxia feel in it but what's your Opinion on Hiroshi Takaki Score?
I prefer Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, DB/Z/GT Movies, Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball GT in Japanese.
For DBZ Kai and two new Movies I like both Dub and Sub. I Prefer Shunsuke Kikuchi Soundtracks over All other Composers.

A beat was added to Zamasu's theme. That remix was also used in the Super clips of Fuji TV's history of Japan special a few weeks ago.

I understand your opinion, but it doesn't mean I hate this track given to us. Yes, I would want the soundtrack that made sub fans jump in joy, made us cry, or feel hype. But, the music in Super has gotten much better since the retelling arcs like the writing. So to me, different isn't something bad.

As someone who claims Kikuchi score is the soul of Dragon Ball. I can recognize the great work done by the composers who came next, Tokunaga score in GT was really good just as Yamamoto in Kai 1.0, but too bad he was caught in plagiarism. Never was much a fan of Sumitomo as most of his tracks were forgettable to me, but I started to appreciate his work more in the Champa arc and of course in the Future Trunks arc where he produced soundtracks that fit perfectly with the tone of the arc. I'm also loving his work in the current arc.

The Genkidama Theme by Sumitomo is really Tokunaga levels of emotional main theme orchestrations.

Freaking perfect.

And the "All out Battle" track, the first part that plays when Jiren first powers up.... damn son, That's some SERIOUS FRENCH HORN AND STRING PLAY RIGHT THERE, You can almost hear Ganondorf's theme popping out.

I could identify a new track by the time Gohan and Piccolo came out to fight the U6 namekians.

Those first 20 seconds of build up are definitely epic (in the true sense of the word, which sadly has almost lost its meaning due to how overused it is). Super has some great orchestral tracks and in the right moments they do make the scenes special.

It was a nice too hear again the Kai 2.0 tracks that were also present in the final episodes of the Future Trunks arc and I spotted a new track when Goku and Vegeta were along in this episode

I think Sumitomo’s gotten better. I do enjoy a lot of his newer songs but I’m getting tired of the “epic hollygood chorus” that he uses.

As far as the Survival arc goes, I loved the insert song from 110, Goku’s transformation. What’s the name for it? Anyone know?

Why do you find the choirs annoying? the story is not a kungfu adventure anymore, vibraslaps are not needed anymore because we are literally into the realm of gods and angels. Besides even Kikuchi used choir (but much less, and one of his most emotional tracks has a synth choir) And non of the new themes in the Universal Survival arc has had choir anyways.

I feel them overused. The music placement also isn’t as good. Also, in ep 109/110 there was a chorus theme for the new form of I’m not mistaken, but I bought that fit well there. Anyways, I don’t think it’s about the story that is being told, it’s just that it is more generic than that of Z. Even GT aid say had a different yet memorable soundtrack. The only thing that is memorable about this is Omen to Victory but let’s not talk about that.
