As far as I am aware this is Funimation’s first attempt at “Adapting” a Japanese Opening instead of making a new one that’s corporate research approved. It’s a damn good adaptation too and not just “The Japanese song awkwardly translated into English like a crap ton of English dub anime openings”

Easily the second best of the “Adapted Openings” catchy as hell but just not quite as awesome as Mystical Adventure and feels a bit more Anime fan-y to me

3. Dragon Ball Z Uncut Opening

Okay so this just sort of perfectly captures what Funimation did/tried to do to DBZ in America. More hardcore jump around punch some walls and roundhouse kick your sibling in the face. It’s wrong of course. But if you’re going to completely change a show’s spirit and mood to be all “hardcore” eh might as well do it badass.

This one seems the most Saturday Morning cartoonish to me. I could see this one on Fox Kids or the Disney Afternoon block to be honest. It’s catchy.

5. Rock the Dragon

I think this one is the most “iconic” of the English Opening. One hell of a sound. Though I find it weaker than Wasserman’s Power Rangers efforts

I don’t know how I feel about this one. It’s not bad? Just feels like a rough demo which I guess is kind of what it is. I do love the Zerrrrrroooo is our Herrrrrooooooo

Just meh. Easily the best one of the bunch produced in Canada (Hopefully Ocean Kai fixes that). Lyrics are decent. Singer is not terrible but not good either. It’s superior to the Dragon Ball Blue Water dub opening.

I can just picture Funimation’s marketing team going “Research shows DBZ is a huge hit with urban audiences let’s make a theme that appeals to them” This is like Rock the Dragon’s wannabe gangsta little cousin. This is pretty dumb but ya know there’s worse English Dragon Ball openings

Hey, remember when Funimation actually ADAPTED a Japanese opening with Mystical Adventure? This is like the crap version of that. It feels like an awkward translation of a Japanese song. And I know the singer is a big deal to anime dub fans but he really sucks here. This is just incredibly inferior to the Japanese version of the song.

I hate this one on principle more than anything. I mean sure it sounds generic as fuck and like someone put it together in half hour with free stock music they found online but I REALLY hate is even if you select the English dub with the Japanese score you still get this turd of an opening. Why not Head Cha La? Dragon Ball and GT can get English adapted openings but not Z? Or even put in Head Cha La untranslated? I always fast forward through this uninspired crap.

We had this opening in Poland but in french language. Be careful, you may hurt polish fans because most of them are blinded by nostalgia and consider this thing to be best version ever. Reason? It's the version we had in TV. Generally you'd be amazed how many polish fans say that French dub of DB is best only because it was the one that we had in Poland. Kay end of offtopic.

That doesn't even count since it wasn't part of the original score, but a replacement score made for the FUNimation dub. Shitty song for GT's opening but pretty darn catcht and memorable, kinda like 4Kids' One Piece opening.

The line "Chopper's doctoring" makes me chuckle because 4Kids used that as a means to say doctor but doctoring and doctor aren't the same thing. If "doctoring" had the same definition as doctor, then pretty much everyone on YouTube would be doctors. xD

That's just how nostalgia works, regardless of country and dub. The FUNimation dub fans think the Faulconer score was good and wish it was still used to this day. Really, it's no different.

We had a Portuguese version of that song here in Portugal, too. I have huge nostalgia for this thing, but I can admit it's pretty bad.


Still a million times better than the DBZ opening we got, though...
