Sure, they're in really broken English, but that gives them some charm. Plus I also think that it allows them to keep the song's original tone, which isn't done well by different artists (and that's regardless of which language they're singing in). The only dubbed songs that I think come close to their original tones are the ones from the Latin America dub, and they're still not perfect imo (but I love them). But those are just my thoughts
The original tone? Might as well just feature the Japanese song because the Engrish ones hardly sound English at all.

When a viewer has to look up the lyrics of a Dragon Ball song supposedly in English, the singer has failed to do his (or her) job as a competent artist.

Hinorobu Kageyama's English songs sound pretty clear to me, I've never needed lyrics to know what he's saying. By "Broken English", I really just mean that they're not grammatically correct.

I actually doesn't care for them still doing it, but The "Engrish" versions of (Flow) Hero - Kibou no Uta and (Daichi Miura) Blizzard are bad imo, so, for me, they shouldn't stop doing it, but they shouldn't have started doing it too.
(Maximum The Hormone) 'F' and (Momoiro Clover Z) Pledge of Z didn't get "Engrish" versions, so what was the pont for doing this with the other two above :?:

Edit: I forgot, (Flow) CHA LA HEAD CHA LA cover also had a "Engrish" version too
I simply wouldn't want to imagine my life without Dragon Ball, thank you Akira Toriyama (1955-2024), you are now immortal.

Fun fact, even in 90’s anime that were pretty much Japan-only, some shows would have Engrish covers of their OP and ED songs done for their shows (probably as a joke or something) even without an international audience.

Ehh... I'm pretty sure "Pledge of Z" got an Engrish version.

Yeah, it's weird... I grew up watching German television and till this day, I like the German versions of Chala Head Chala, We Gotta Power and Digimon or Pokemon themes (tough the US versions for Pokemon) were great... but that was the heyday of Weekend cartoons here in Europe, so you had dubbed everything even the opening and ending themes.

This trend is kind of dead nowadays, with streaming services and people not much watching TV, but if the show is dubbed, I think they shall make a dubbed versions of the opening.
I always thought that the Engrish versions were meant for the Japanese audience, but listening to it as an english speaking guy, wow, that's weird and doesn't really make sense... and doing International version like the Kai opening, where I have no idea what they are singing and even with lyrics it doesn't make sense... just NO! It's kind of embarrasing.

Take a gander at these (that I never knew existed until I got the song collection).

I mean, they're fun novelty things that are pretty cool. Not that they sound good, but still. They're just fun.

I know these, they are pretty old. But back in the day, I have no idea if they were made for international openings, as they never were used or such as a cool bonus on Japanese release to underline the international success of the series.

But honestly, Kageyama doesn't have that bad english in comparison with other engrish versions out there, just the lyrics do not make sense at all.

Interesting in We Gotta Power is that altough Doragon Boru is still with Japanese pronounciation, he tried to sing the Z as Zeeeeeeed.

I don't know if it is relevant to the topic of the thread, but here is a video of Kageyama and JAM Project performing Cha-La Head-Cha-La with the lyrics of the latin spanish version.
