Dragon Ball GT Japanese OST mini-project

Post by Underscore_Johny » Thu Apr 09, 2020 10:34 pm

I'm not sure if this should be posted on the fan-created works forum or on this one, but I feel like this would be more appreciated here.

So basically, we all know that the Japanese soundtrack for GT was never officially released, which is a real shame. Of course this means that the only way to access the tracks is by directly ripping them from the show. As I'm sure a few of you have seen, there is a post by user Super 17 from last October that I came across a while ago which has a link to a video of quite possibly the best rips of the soundtrack currently available, that being this video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQ7QFnXKxrk

However, despite the fantastic quality of the majority of the songs, there are still a few issues in some of them, like some unavoidable background noise. I noticed that this was the case for three of my favourite songs from the soundtrack. So, after searching the internet for alternative versions and finding no luck, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I came across a YouTube channel called 'xXurcelayXx', who has a number of recreations of said songs on his channel. I began to wonder if there was a way to combine his music with the original versions where there was prominent background noise, to try and remove unnecessary sounds. Eventually, after messing around with the tracks on Audacity for a couple of weeks, I was able to make it work. Most of the annoying sound effects/voices that corrupted the songs were gone. So after having them sitting around on my hard-drive for a few months I have decided to share them, by uploading them to YouTube. You'll find the links to them below, and I've put them in order of, in my opinion, the best to worst. You can find how I made each one in the descriptions of each respected video.

1. SSJ4 Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjHZpyDFWv4

2. Victory Achieved Beyond All Hope: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwWxMS4n7L0

3. Universal Spirit Bomb Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AxLKfAXdz0

What I will say is that they are not the best quality, but are the best I could work with. I'm sure someone else could maybe do it better, as I'm only an amateur. The Spirit Bomb theme has by far the most drastic change, but because it was so badly corrupted by voices and sound effects from the episode it came from, I had to add a lot. I did my best to at least retain the drums used in the original. The SSJ4 theme is by far the most unnoticeable, and for those who have heard the original ripped version will agree, sounds much better without the sound of Goku's tear hitting water at around the 35 second mark. As for 'Victory Achieved Beyond All Hope', I think that you'll like what I did with the section that used to have loud birds singing in the background (about 42 seconds in), because if you had not heard the original you probably would not notice the change.

I might revisit them in the future for improvements, because there are several that I could potentially make. If you have any feedback leave it below, or in the comments section of each video, I check both. If you want to say something that would be of use to fellow users I suggest that you post it here though so that everybody can see it. Enjoy!

Thank you so much for these!! All the other versions either had sound effects or parts completely missing. Love this soundtrack!

No bother man. Glad to know that I'm not the only one that was sick of the random sound effects that appeared in the tracks. Feedback is appreciated.

I don't mean to double-post, but I'm just letting everyone know that I have finished making the lossless version of the tracks. You'll find the link to download them at the bottom of the original post. I've provided the option to download the files in WAV and MP3 form for those who want them.

Boy was that frustrating to make. Having to re-do everything in lossless form took quite a lot out of me, but I think that the result is fantastic, and it took much less time then I thought it would. I did a couple of edits to 'Victory Achieved Beyond All Hope', making the audio that I added in a little bit louder to match the original. Hope you enjoy the new tracks!
