Episode #0258! VegettoEX, Hujio, and Julian recap all the big news over the last two weeks. A new video game is coming later this year (despite the franchise continuing down the financial hole for Namco-Bandai), the 98th episode of "DragonBall Kai" will make its way to the home release as a bonus... the list goes on and on. E-mails about "Journey to the West", the 23rd Tenka-ichi Budokai, and inflation round out the episode. Referenced sites:
Hey, it's a podcast episode. Just the guys this time around. That's OK sometimes, too.

This episode was great. While having a female presence gives some sense of order, having it being all-guys is just plain fun. You should call these occasions "Daizenshuu EX The Podcast -- Now with more testosterone!"

Ugh...your film viewing experiences with the "Journey to the West" TV/film adaptations are disappointingly low. I grew up watching various adaptations of "Journey to the West" so it's absolutely nothing new to me. As a matter of fact, I'd have to recommend the two-parter films starring Kung Fu Hustle's Stephen Chow which is available as a bluray boxset if imported from Hong Kong. The 1996 TVB series is another enjoyable TV adaptation of the "Journey to the West" stories. As I recall, there was even a pun relating to Dragon Ball where Wukong, Tang Monk, Ba Jie and Sha Wujing get pregnant after drinking some mystical water in the Women Village.

On an unrelated note, I am SERIOUSLY waiting for the IMAX 3D movie "The Monkey King" starring Donnie Yen as Sun Wukong. The 3D should be as good as it was done for "Avatar" (since the 3D visual effects are done by the same crew).

Since it's relevant to the show, I repost what I've watched of the adaptations of Journey To The West:

Image
Xi You Ji (CCTV, 1986, Starring Liu Xiao Ling Tong as Sun Wukong)

Image
Monkey (Nippon Television/NHK, 1978, Starring Masaaki Sakai as Sun Wukong)

Image
Havoc In Heaven (Wan brothers, 1961)

Image
The Forbidden Kingdom (The Weinstein Company and Lionsgate, 2008, Starring Jackie Chan and Jet Li)

I totally did! I just remembered it this morning :(. Then again... I mean... it's entirely forgettable, so I don't feel bad.

There was also the pretty bad made-for-TV-movie The Lost Empire. I saw it when it first aired in 2001, and haven't seen it since. Been meaning to.

I've also flipped through a little bit of Alakazam the Great on Netflix streaming. I mostly wanted to see which portions it covered, but I'll sit and watch the whole thing at some point soon :).

But yeah, I know our adaptation familiarity is pretty low. I'm pretty psyched for the 2012 movie, though.

Really great podcast you guys have put together. I love listening to it every week. I think it's a good sign that the only time I'm bummed out over an episode is when it's a short one. I hope it continues to live on for a very long time.

Kamen Rider is currently going through it's 40th anniversary. Two years ago was the 10th anniversary of the Heisei (current generation) Kamen Rider series. The past 3 series have been large ratings and financial successes. A new movie celebrating the 40th anniversary was just released and tore up box office numbers. There's a SHITTON of reasons why Kamen Rider is the big money maker for Bandai, although it shocks me to see it beat One Piece.

Yes, I AM a huge Kamen Rider nerd.

Ha, I was featured in this podcast... I was the author of one of the e-mails. Which one I won't say, through.

Not that anyone cares, anyway. :p
