Technically no, he just mentions that it's a funny name and leaves it at that. It's only in Viz that he mentions bloomers.

About Bulma: When I pronounce her name, it comes out as Bulama. Much easier to say than Bool-ma, and it sounds like the way it's pronounced on the original show.

I haven't watched VHS in a while either, so I decided to bring out the old VCR. I found some old VHS-C camcorder tapes, and watched them through the adapter for regular sized cassettes. I just got a new capture card, so I'll be backing these up on a format you can't rip or wear out.

Looks like I was really right about Bulla's age. But why does she look like she's teen?

I like how "Blooma" sounds more than "Bulma", but "Bulma" is so universally known and I'm so used to writing it that way that I can't see switching.

The perfect files seem to say 10 years, which makes a lot more sense seeing as how Bra dresses and the fact that people were HITTING ON HER. And there's also her height, she is about as tall as her mom.
People still keep going on about this? They don't care about age in DB, or manga in general, for that matter. Chi-Chi's 12, and despite the fact that she does look like a little kid, she's got a bust and she's wearing an armoured bikini that makes her look like a child porn star. Goku and Kuririn still look like little kids by the time they're 15 and 16 respectively at the 22nd TB. Oolong's, like, 9, and he's horny as fuck, kidnapping girls and trying to cop a feel of Bulma when she's asleep.

So what if adult men are hitting on Bra, who's an 11-year-old? She dresses like a teenager anyway, and even in real-life, you get examples of people who reach puberty and/or look older than their age, as well as men that hit on young women without knowing that they're underage. And yes, again, there are people in real-life who are about as tall as their mother, even at 11. Furthermore, in real-life, there are people

It's not up to anyone to say what makes sense. It makes more sense for Kuririn to be an 11-year-old rather than a 16-year-old at the 22nd TB because how much of a shrimp he is, but there we go.

Well, she dresses like a teen but doesn't really have the body of one.

Loved the podcast like always but I want to post my two cents. I agree with Meri on,the sometimes, absurd quest of Mike & Hujio trying a correct pronunciation of a non-English name for an anime. Sorry to burst your bubble (Meri did it before me though :P ) but sometimes one has to let things like these go, lol.

Not to throw Mike under the bus, but even though I don't remember exactly what I said, I'm pretty sure I agreed with Meri. But more so to touch on your other point, what's wrong with at least telling people how a name is properly pronounced in its language of origin?

Well, he is a pig, I don't think it's really a fair comparison.

Yeah, I definitely remember you siding with Meri. I don't really know why you got brought up with any sort of issues on the way you handle pronunciations. You (and Mike, when he's not stuck on this Bluma weirdness) generally seem to treat alternate pronunciations appropriately. There's nothing wrong with bringing up facts about the Japanese language, and it's not like you're incredibly rude when you bring those facts up.

Yeah, I'm assuming pigs don't live as long as humans, even if Oolong is a mix of both. Like dogs have their own aging system(dog years) pigs should have something like that too, I reckon.
Or not, I really don't know.

Well, whatever. My point still stands. And if you claim that him being a pig (but still an animal-type Earthling) isn't a fair comparison, then you should also contest his attraction to human-type Earthlings like Bulma and the girls he kidnapped.

I sure hope you're not implying you want a Dutch dub, because that would be horrible. :(
LOL, of course not. I meant Dutch subtitles. XD

There is nothing wrong with it and I do certainly enjoy the lesson but sometimes it seems a little forced/surprised on me how you guys become rabid fanboys concerning pronunciations, especially when you are one of the few examples of intelligent fandom I have had the pleasure of come across the web on anything.

in the podcast mike brought up Madman do the australian releases
well the UK alternative to madman is a company called 'Manga Entertainment' who release the PAL R2's of some Funimation series in the UK.
and a while ago they said on their facebook page that after requests from fans on the fanpage that they are unable to handle the cost for the licences of DragonBall or One Piece from Toei due to it being too expersive for them to handle at this point.

oh and and the uk population is 61.8 million people so it has more that spain but slightly less that france by 3 million.
