It's quite possible there will never be a better episode than this. They do say it's all downhill after episode #455, anyway.

Chris Sabat needs to read Dr. Slump. Also, I'm a little confused by his initial answer--I take it they get scripts in translation (possibly the same used for Crunchyroll's subtitles?), and that's what they then adapt unless the Japanese needs spot-checking in-house?

Anyway, wow, amazing, good stuff.

Did get a little chuckle out of the flat melancholy of, "I never saw him again. I never will."

Julian talking about the fact that he probably wouldn't have ever been in Japan/learned the language/met his wife if Dragon Ball didn't exist is also some big mood. It's possible it's the kind of thing that could hit home for other people who find themselves in Japan seriously learning the language with this series as an oblique impetus, but who can say.

The YouTube video is down! I was saving it for this morning, when I sat down at work with some coffee and a load of paperwork to burn through. I am so deflated. D: I can listen to it, sure, but this still rubs me the wrong way if this was removed by a third party. I hope that's not the case. The table of contents is making me drool.

EDIT: It was JUST reposted not ten minutes after I said this. Hnngk. I'll give it a proper viewing now.

Had a typo in an actor name and replaced the entire video (added two Nozawa photos in the process). All links have been updated everywhere to reflect this. Apologies and thanks!

Thanks for the quick update - it was definitely bad timing on my part!

Amazing. Masako Nozawa and Julian actually interacting face-to-face feels like something that would only happen in some crazy crossover thingamajig à la Smash Bros, but nope - it really happened! Autographs and photos are nice, but having an actual conversation with someone you admire is the dream! I'm very happy for Julian that he got to experience that.

Sabat's comments made towards the film and Toriyama's involvement really piqued my interest a bit more.

Also, Monica Rial is really sweet. Love her personality and her role as Bulma.

Over all, an insightful episode.

Funny to hear Kanzenshuu conduct dub related interviews, I'm guessing it was more out of obligation due to getting press passes (I've been in similar situations where you have to cover stuff regardless of interest) than interest however most of the interviews had some insightful stuff.

Was pretty surprised to hear Schemmel's opinion on Goku almost 100% mirror the general Kanzenshuu feel on the character, I know this community gives him a lot of shit but I don't think we can doubt HE get's the character at a very fundamental level after so many years experience.

Monica Rial was really interesting, especially how she used to pay hommage to Tiffany who is still my preferred dub Bulma but she definitely gets some brownie points after that interview.

Ian Sinclair really doesn't have to try hard for his Whis voice does he haha

And for someone that got to ask Nozawa a question myself from a crowd on a very rare trip to Australia, I'm happy Julian got to do that and it probably meant a lot to him so that's awesome, hopefully Mike got in close as well!

Honestly, while it was a cool episode, I have to disagree about there not being better episodes than this. I personally have a lot of episodes as favorites before this one. But then again, I live in Norway and have no connection to the cons in the us, or the american voice actors of DBZ.

I've never been to a U.S. con and have little connection to the American voice actors, but you can tell this was a big experience for everyone, and that energy comes through.

I agree, but there still are so many interesting topics that have been covered with passion before on the podcast that for me has much more replay value.

Douglas's comment near the end heavily hints at GoD Broly/Freeza to me.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that. It was a very bizarre tangent that seemed to say a lot more than it let on. Maybe we're just reading too much into it, though.

Certainly food for thought, but if Douglas was subtlety showing his hand on whatever information he knows, then we have a record of it here.

This was a great episode! I remember when I first started my Dragon Ball renaissance, I started by watching Dragon Ball and then going straight to DBZ Kai. I at first thought they had the original Bulma VO (Tiffany, but I didn't know the name at the time) come back, but then of course discovered that Monica had come in instead. And to hear that she intentionally played Bulma like Tiffany as an homage just made my heart soar because it basically confirmed these feelings and suspicions I had about her performance. I also like the inside baseball Monica provides with her interview, especially how the dubbing process is different now for them compared to the Z days.

You missed something: They didn't segregate the anime because they were out of room, they segregated the anime because AnimeNYC is having a convention in November and they wanted their own "convention" to compete with it.

Stupid Google play not updating. I didn't know this was up until today. Looks like I'll have to listen to the YouTube version.
