I haven't listened to the full episode since I haven't seen the movie yet (I want to save that until after I've watched it and can fully appreciate it), but I had to listen to the end portion after hearing what was going on. It was a touching tribute to a departing team member...made unintentionally hilarious by the weed wacker racket  Herms has always made himself so available on places like Twitter to help out translating things, whether it was live tweeting Super, or answering people's questions on random stuff. I imagine it must have gotten overwhelming, so it's understandable that he'd need a break.

I hope I'll be able to help fill the void somewhat in my role as a site contributor, though I share Julian's aversion for the in-universe stuff that causes rage and debates among the fandom :? But we'll do our best!

Thanks to Jake for your tireless contributions to the fandom  We hope to see you return when you feel ready, but in the meantime, enjoy yourself in whatever you do!

Hearing Jake’s story about playing dumb at a screening of the JSAT special was probably one of the first episodes of the podcast I listened to. Natsukashii~.

Thank you for everything you’ve done over the years and helping make Kanzentai and Kanzenshuu such enjoyable sites to browse through. Hearing how you learned a lot through translating is really inspiring and makes me want to keep furthering my Japanese studies! You mention answering random emails and helping translate stuff for people, and I’m grateful I was one of those people (you gave me a very long explanation of the Dr. Slump - Arale-chan series many many years ago).

Ganbatte!

When I heard that noise in the background I thought Jake was revving his motorcycle or something!

I remember that Budokai 3 contest!

But here's the strange thing: I think I also did an Arale-based entry. Or did I? Was his entry so good that somehow in the last decade it has overridden my own memory of that contest? I've now spent more time than I should have this morning going through two old email accounts and my Google Drive trying to find my contest entry and failing. I guess it may be better if I never know.

Thanks to Jake for all his great work on my favorite Dragon Ball sites!

I know that I'm late with my post but I must thank Herms for the service that he has given. He has been a huge inspiration for me to learn Japanese as a hobby. He has been so funny to listen to on the podcast and Geekdom's videos. I know I have never met him but I hope that he has a happy time with his retirement and hope that he pops up on special episodes or what not. Thank you Herms (Jake)!

I never listened to a podcast before, but after knowing about what was happening I had to listen to the last 30 minutes of this one.

Herms isn't only a knowledgeable guy. He also seems to be a really nice person, who was always ready to translate and clarify everything too. I never saw him getting angry over anything.
I have a huge respect for someone like that, even though I never met him.

Thanks for all the hard work, Jake! Wish you all the best!

Just bought tickets to Broly with a DBZ-loving friend of mine! We can't wait to see it in a theatre!

I already tweeted at Herms wishing him the best going forward, but I'll say it here too: he's been an amazing contributer not only to Kanzenshuu (and Daizenshuu EX and Kanzentai before that), but to the Dragon Ball community as a whole. As someone who has been in a semi-hiatus from the Dragon Ball series for a few years, I understand the feeling of being burnt out and needing time away from the series.

Whatever your next steps in life are, I wish you the best Herms.

I can't believe it missed my eyes that one of the staff was moving on, but of course i have both heard and known of Herms' many contributions to this site over time both as Daizenshuu EX and Kanzenshuu as well as the former Kanzentai. Of course there's also his great many appearances on the podcast over the years which has been great listening, and all the wonderful documentation work along with the rest of VegettoEX's crew. Best wishes, Herms. Your contributions to this community have been substantial.

BTW, those hedge cutters were so hilarious. Couldn't stop laughing while they were constantly going off in the background.

Nooo not Herms! :(

As much as I enjoy listening to the other guys, I've always made a special effort to listen to all of the episodes that you were on, Jake. Your infinite knowledge of the franchise amazes me to this day and I love listening to you dive deep into the lore with your soft spoken, thoughtful voice. You seem like a really cool dude.

After all of those years of contributing I can totally see why you'd need a break from it all. Hope you enjoy whatever you do next (and still pop in on the forums every so often as well).

(Also fun fact, my sister wrote an English paper about DBZ in high school and credited you as a source. So the legacy of "Herms" lives on in the works cited page of a high school somewhere!)

Yeah Herms will definitely be missed. I know Kanzenshuu has shyed away from this stuff in the past for more commentary on out of universe stuff but my favourite episodes are the reviews and the deep dives into the lore. The Saiyan history and Dragon Ball explanation episodes are some of my favourites and I was hoping one day to get an updated Dragon Ball one as I am confused as hell on that now haha. Thanks for all the work you did do while contributing Herms, you were basically the figurehead of translating Japanese sources, you will be sorely missed.

During this episode, Ajay mentioned that Nagamine said the chanting was inspired by Mexican fans. I've combed through the translations and I see no mention of this. I trust this podcast, but I'd like to see a source on this if one is readily available.

Addendum: I had not yet finished the episode when I initially posted this. Now that I've finished... I wish you all the best, Herms. Your content is great, and I very much enjoyed stalking your viewing of Yuyu Hakusho on twitter. Also, thank you for that demon episode on the podcast!

It hasn't been translated yet on the site proper, but he mentioned it in here - https://news.mynavi.jp/article/20181219-743464/
