The ratings actually increased by more than 300,000 from week 1 to week 2:

Week 1 ratings - 946,000
Week 2 ratings - 1,278 644 (+ 332,664 viewers)

And it's also become the highest rated show on Toonami, but that's mostly thanks to the dish fiasco being sorted out.

I don't know how TV land works, is a million or close to it actually good numbers?

Also Toonami has been airing movies and OVA's because its December and Holidays reduce ratings.Dont worry.

So no disrespect and all curiosity, who is actually watching this? Bringing back Toonami as a before-the-crack-of-dawn block (in my part of the world, anyway) struck me as just next to keeping it in the dirt.

It's not really that odd, Adult Swim has had a well-established anime block on Saturday nights since it launched in 2001. Injecting the Toonami branding into it gave the anime block a breath of new life to it.

So you have the old Toonami fanbase, newer anime fans, insomniacs, and casual viewers tuning in each week. Considering they rarely ever air premieres past 3am, it's not like the viewer is being forced to stay up till the twilight hours to catch their favorite shows. And even if their favorite show is in the twilight hours, we're in an age of DVR.

Do the ratings matter that much anymore?

If you want to continue watching these shows on TV, yeah. [adult swim]'s only source of revenue from anime is ads.

Figure I might as well post the ratings that Broly got last Saturday:

Code: Select all

                                                          A1849 Viewers A1849
Net Time Dur Program HH rtg (000) (000)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADSM 12:00a 90 DRAGON BALL Z: BROLY 0.8 0.5 1,175 665

For comparison, here's the rating Cooler's Revenge got when it aired earlier this year:

12:00AM Dragon Ball Z: Cooler - 1.108 million viewers overall, 0.8 rating / 665,000 viewers (18-49), 0.5 rating
(We don't have the ratings for the other airing of Cooler's Revenge because it aired as time filler during Daylight Savings Time.)

Kai returns to Toonami next week.

940,000 total viewers with 491,000 viewers in the 18-49 age demographic. Kind of an average start to the year, but better than I was expecting after a month off.

Hmm, so it has fallen behind Attack on Titan.

Oh, and ouch at the drop off in-between Inuyasha and One Piece.

Most people go to bed after 1:00 AM which can explain the drop. Not to mention Inuyasha is back on TV for the first time in almost a decade since I remember the dub for the first show ended around 2006. I do wish Toonami promote the show better telling people that Kai is back after movie month.

Repeats of Inuyasha aired all the way until last March. I wonder if they'll keep repeating Bleach? It seems to be doing quite well despite airing so late.

Damn, this was bad week for, well, everyone on the block. Once Nappa and Vegeta arrive on Earth though, I'm expecting a spike in the ratings. Not a huge one very noticeable. Also, One Piece. What more can be said? I don't think it will ever find a stable audience on US TV. One Piece lost to everything after 3AM except Bebop. One Piece seems to be a rating vacuum at this point.
