Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Well, here's the key visual for the new Digimon Series airing on Fuji TV in April.

TV Series for Digimon tend to go four cours, so I'd say no Dragon Ball Super return to TV for a long time.

Well that's that settled then. Seems like a reboot of Digimon Adventure, which sounds intriguing.DBZ_Lee wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 5:58 am Well, here's the key visual for the new Digimon Series airing on Fuji TV in April.

I'm actually surprised they didn't want to time a new Dragon Ball series with Goku's appearance as a mascot at the Olympics, but I guess they'll just make it next year then.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
This is a good news, that's mean Dragon Quest will not be on Fuji TV. We can hope for next year now. With DQ it was dead for at least 3 years
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
It's settled, then. Unless people want to say "maybe they'll just choose a different timeslot" in order to keep up hope, that is. Which has been done before, but... please don't. It's not worth it.

We must finally say: Dragon Ball anime is dead. End of story.
We have a relatively good monthly manga. Nothing more.

I remember when people said the same thing back in 2005, only then it was more believable as DB had really nothing new going for it at the time. Nowadays the brand is at an all time high, so stop with the pessimism.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Honestly my biggest concern is the future of said manga. Moro seems a lot like an "endgame" arc to me, and while it's been excellent, I can't help but think they might put the manga on hiatus as well after this. Not sure why I feel that way. It's unlikely though, so let's hope not.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
And it was dead in 2005. Then we got short specials in: 2008, 2010 and 2011, two movies: 2013 and 2015, a new TV series (2015-2018), and the last thing was the movie in 2018.mfwlegend3 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 8:48 amI remember when people said the same thing back in 2005, only then it was more believable as DB had really nothing new going for it at the time. It's dead since and will probably stay for years.

There is no comparison to be had here. The DB as a franchise and brand is what's hot right now, therefore the likelihood of a new series is much higher, but I'm convinced you're only trolling.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
We all assumed that dragon quest would be broadcast on Fuji TV, and it doesn't seem to be the case. We know DQ will last more than 100 episodes and starting october 2020. Its could have been a big problem since the series would probably have ended in 2022 or 2023.
Every Digimon series are 50 episodes, so a year of broadcast, that's a big difference.

I honestly wish I wasn't a fan of Dragon Ball with this news. It's so painful to have waited two years, and now we'll have to wait for at least four more course? How long is a cours ? What the heck is Toei doing? I don't understand this at all! I want to know the reason! It doesn't seem to make sense at all!dbgtFO wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 6:34 amWell that's that settled then. It all comes down to definition of words. I think it's on a hiatus (edit, and it seems for at least two years...FUCK NO), I don't think it's "dead". Which is really annoying but it is what it is.Sani007 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 8:57 amAnd it was dead in 2005. Counting has been going on for almost two years.MeMeDZEHH wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 9:13 amWe all assumed that dragon quest would be broadcast on Fuji TV, and it doesn't seem to be the case. That's what I did until December. Now I realized it was unnecessary.
As long as the franchise generates such good revenue with nothing, it is not worth waiting for a new product.

What makes you think so ? An endgame, with Freeza likely still alive at the end of the arc ? Broly still a dormant threat ? No news of Zamara ? and Trunks living with his double while everyone in his original world has been butchered ?caire wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 8:49 amHonestly my biggest concern is the future of said manga. Without counting the fact that none of the protagonists actually left a footprint in one of the other universes.
Goku mastering UI is the only plot point vaguely ressembling an end game.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
I have a lot of other anime to watch at the moment. In fact I am following more series this season then I have in awhile but it still boggles the mind how poorly Toei and Bandai Namco treat their most profitable franchise.
I guess we will only have video and mobile games retreading the same content in different ways to look forward to.
Oh and how can I forget more episodes of SDBH that no one asked for.

Like it's been already stated, DBS merch sales are at an all time high without there being a series -> this is an ideal business situation. Max profit, minimal cost. Now they can focus on their other IPs like Digimon in order to increase merch sales there too.
We could maybe see a series once sales figures start dropping considerably.
Stop buying toys, guys!

A cour is a quarter of a year. They're split up as January-March, April-June, July-September and October-December.sangofe wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2020 10:23 am I honestly wish I wasn't a fan of Dragon Ball with this news. As for Toei's reasoning, I'd also like to know their underlying reason for not making more Super anime, whether it's a financial thing, it's a staffing thing, it's a no-go from Toriyama, or it's something else entirely. I don't really care if it's a good or a bad reason, I'd just like to hear some reason.

Merchandise sales are not an all time high. If anything if you follow figures sales they aren’t doing as good as they were when new material was coming out. The last figures that did really well were UI Goku when he first came out and movie stuff especially FP Broly. But now they are stuck in a rut of releasing the same stuff over and over. In fact you can see they aren’t selling as well because figure prices tend to go way down in value on the after market.
What is making the most money for Dragon Ball is video games and mobile game sales. Dokkan, Legends, Fighterz and I am sure DBZ Kakarot will do well. That is why the franchise is still so profitable.
I assume SDBH trading card makes money too but I don’t know as much about sales figures for that.
If you want to argue that DB is still profitable and doing really well without an anime then yes I agree but I don’t think it’s doing as well.
