"Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I still need to re-watch the rest of the movie, but I remember that last really interestingly laid out scene in the 2013 film was the scene where Kaiou speaks to Vegeta. I think this is about where Chioka Kimitoshi's segment of the storyboard ended. As such, we can probably expect the episodes of Dragon Ball Super storyboarded personally by Chioka to be framed a lot like this.
The following cut in particular is a nice choice. It's an eight second-long upward pan of the part where Whis explains to Beers where Earth is and how many Saiyans are living there. It's a nice way to avoid spending drawings on animating lip flaps, it adds variety to the flow of the scene and all-around looks very nice. Chioka doesn't forget to incorporate the environment the characters are in to remind the audience of their world or what they see and feel.

I'm wondering what kind of tone the arcs will have. If they'll return to the serious tone of most of part 2, the light-hearted tone of most of part 1 or a mid-ground like Resurrection 'F' and Battle of Gods.

I'm wanting a serious return to the franchise but am expecting the cheese I've become accustomed too. This is good cheese though.

Well, we now know a bit about the opening and ending songs (who they're by and I think maybe the titles), and we've seen some storyboards for the ending titles which hint that they might be a recap sort of thing.JamesOwnz wrote:Been gone for 2-3 days anything new?

I doubt we'll get anything new until V-Jump now, when the Manga debuts. It's a shame they won't show a preview during Kai over the next few weeks to build anticipation.

Under the "child Goku" image, I thought it looked like Trunks' time machine. Also, looks like ssj3 Goku with a halo next to him.TheRed259 wrote:I found this on Fb.

^ The guys that are doing those hidden discoveries in that paper should work to FBI,
A world without Dragon Ball is just meh.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
It would be quite the shock if the ED has nothing to do with that in the end.
Check out Journey's End, a short story of Goku and Vegeta's final days. "Time is running out for the last two Saiyans"

What other images? The pictures of characters? They're just noticing that there are faint outlines on the paper that match existing images of certain characters, and showing how they match up.dbgtFO wrote:Where on Facebook are you Guys finding the other images???

I'm still betting the website and logo appear next week. No promo art or anything, but the website at least.
Next Monday is June, after all.

Norihito Sumitomo confirmed as the composer. Well, kinda disappointing to me.

Disappointing but sadly inevitable. The franchise seems (in terms of animated output at least) to be fairly monogamous with composers.kei17 wrote:http://sumitomostf2.jugem.jp/?eid=63

I like Sumitomo, looking forward to hearing what he comes up with for Super.Blade wrote:Disappointing but sadly inevitable. The franchise seems (in terms of animated output at least) to be fairly monogamous with composers.kei17 wrote:http://sumitomostf2.jugem.jp/?eid=63

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I think he's a talented composer, and I love a lot of the stuff he has done, but I'm not really all too taken with what I've heard of his take on Dragonball thus far. I feel like the direction that he has chosen, or been directed to take, for the franchise, hasn't really gelled with the material or brought it to life.DBZ_Lee wrote:I like Sumitomo, looking forward to hearing what he comes up with for Super.Blade wrote:Disappointing but sadly inevitable. I suppose the best way I'd describe his score for Battle of Gods and Kai would be 'inoffensive' if anything, but I think that good underscore needs to be more than just background musaq sometimes, it has to add something to the visuals without detracting from it, and I feel that he hasn't really found that balance often enough for my liking.
I mean, a lot of the criticism he has gotten has been from people who simply want something stylistically similar to what the previous composers have done before, especially in Kai, but I'm all for covering entirely new ground - it's just that his contributions haven't done anything for me.
