Um... They have a partially dubbed version of the Dr. Slump opening in a promo video for tonight's episode. I'm almost certain they'll have a full version in the episode.
Edit: I'm sure it's pretty clear to those familiar with her singing voice, but it's sung by Brina Palencia, the voice of Arale in the dub.

SENBEI NORIMAKI THE SCENCE GUY
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
That surprised me too. It seemed out of place, but at the same Funi knew this entire episode is a gag so 'why not'.shadd21 wrote:Oh wow, the said Dr Mashirito said that he escaped from "Home of Infinite Losers"
Although, it's hilarious how casually Goku says 'oh, damn'.

Love how they gave Arale the privilege of saying it's been 30 years since they last met each other.

So do we have any idea who voiced Senbei and Dr. Mashrihito in the episode? I'm really curious to hear how FUNi handled those two.

Senbei is now voiced by R Bruce Elliot which does not surprise me since he took over for Brice Armstrong as Ginyu too. Dr. Mashirito is voiced by Barry Yandell.

They probably could’ve also gone with Doc Morgan. Does that guy do any voices other than the narrator?DB_Fan1991 wrote:Senbei is now voiced by R Bruce Elliot which does not surprise me since he took over for Brice Armstrong as Ginyu too. Dr. Mashirito is voiced by Barry Yandell.

Just saw some clips earlier after I asked, and I THOUGHT it sounded like those two. I'm not entirely sure if Elliot would be my pick for Senbei in a potential (but sadly never going to happen) actual series dub, but he worked pretty well in this episode, so maybe he'd do pretty good actually. Yandell sounded pretty great for Mashirito from what I remember of him though, so that's an A+ for me. And Brina was, as I expected, PERFECT for Arale, just as I'd imagined she would be based on her turn with the character in Tenkaichi 3. I love that they even kept her little vocal quirks in this episode too.DB_Fan1991 wrote:Senbei is now voiced by R Bruce Elliot which does not surprise me since he took over for Brice Armstrong as Ginyu too. Man, now I just want to read/watch some Slump.
As far as I'm aware, he hasn't so much as done even a background role in Dragon Ball, much less anything else for FUNi. I believe he's a radio guy who they picked up specifically for the narrator last I remember reading, so he may not really even be auditioning for other things.WittyUsername wrote:They probably could’ve also gone with Doc Morgan. CALLED IT. I KNEW R. BRUCE ELLIOT WOULD VOICE SENBEI.
...since Armstrong is now retired.
I could even tell from watching him speak, he sounds great!

That episode was like I'm watching anime on speed
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
Being a gag episode, it seems they chose (or were forced by Toei) to keep certain Dr. Slump terminology and character mannerisms, that I don't believe they bothered to keep in past crossovers. The dubbed opening theme was a nice touch, also!
I was hoping they'd throw in something like this when Goku and Arale recognize each other, but alas, they did not:
Goku: "Aah! You're Arale from Penguin Village!"
Arale: "You're Son Goku!"
Goku: "Whaa? How do you know my family name is Son?? I've never told anyone, ever!"
I mean, they threw in a random HFIL reference. They clearly know their audience....

Interestingly, the rerun of episode 1 tonight on adult swim aired with the English covers of chozetsu dynamic and hello hello hello unlike its first broadcast. Wonder if they'll be airing some of the revised dialogue that showed up on the DVDs?

Yeah, since it's now airing on Adult Swim, they can not only have free rein when it comes to mild swearing, but actually lampshade the atrocious euphemisms they were forced to use back when dubbing Z.G1Ravage wrote: I mean, they threw in a random HFIL reference. They clearly know their audience....
