Ha ha no eliminations for Goku in the manga. Makes sense since he was fixated on Jiran the whole time.

Manga:
Universe 6 eliminated: 30 competitors
Universe 7 has eliminated: 19 competitors

Quite a difference...

Goku was treated horribly in the Universal Survival arc in the manga.

This. It subverts expectations and fits his character perfectly. Goku didn't give a shit about racking up eliminations, he just wanted to fight the strongest guy there.

Also, I'm happy that Universe 7 didn't get the most eliminations, despite winning the tournament. Kinda feel like Universe 11 needed more though.

That's a pretty bad way to rationalize the manga's poor use of Goku (and just about everyone else). How does Goku failing to eliminate anybody fit his character (when he's known to do well in tournaments in general)?

And just because something subverts expectations doesn't make it good.

I... just explained why it fits his character. He made it 100% clear before the tournament started that he was more interested in Jiren than any other participant, even ignoring his would-be opponents during the actual competition to fight him. A battle royale is structurally completely different from previous tournaments because it affords Goku the opportunity to go at his desired opponent as soon as possible, so your comparison is ill-founded.

What you're asking for is fanservice.

Proper character usage =/= fanservice (manga fans always play the "fanservice" card claim to deflect criticism of it smh).

Goku's character isn't just interested in the strongest guy around but anyone who can give him a challenge, so him not fighting and eliminating anyone that steps to him is out of character.

The fact that you immediately made this about "manga fans" (as if this is some kind of war) reiterates that you aren't interested in an honest discussion and seem to be taking this personally. Looking at your post history, this isn't shocking.
zarmack wrote:Goku's character isn't just interested in the strongest guy around but anyone who can give him a challenge
Goku's character is interested primarily in opponents who can push him beyond his limits. Surprise, surprise: Jiren is both the strongest guy around and the only one in the tournament capable of that. This is made abundantly clear in both versions of the arc, although it was only the anime that had him constantly dicking around with opponents way below his paygrade.

So yeah, fanservice. You getting miffed that he didn't rack up eliminations holds exactly zero relevance to Goku's personality, development, or motives.

1. Hit, Aniraza, Kefla and Toppo are all also capable of pushing Goku's limits (2 of them actually did this in the anime), so that's a false argument.

2. Goku was dicking around with weaker fighters 99% percent of the time in the manga (yet still couldn't get rid of them), so that's a hypocritical complaint about the anime.

3. There's a difference between fanservice and basic competence, Goku in the manga was clearly lacking in the latter. Goku scoring plenty of wins in the ToP anime isn't fanservice, its merely showcasing Goku effectively doing what he does best.

This is why you shouldn't ignore context.

Kefla and Anilaza didn't exist until the tournament neared its climax; by then, Goku was already fighting Jiren on-and-off unless momentarily interrupted, who was far more capable of pushing him well past his limits than anyone in your list. He's more relevant to Goku's personal goal than any of those fighters, which was also established in the anime.

That's patently false. Goku overpowered the likes of Toppo and Dyspo to go straight for Jiren not even three chapters in, proceeding to focus on him for almost the entire remainder of the competition. The two fighting each other off-screen throughout its duration was a major point of contention during the manga's run, actually.

The anime, in contrast, has him consistently fighting countless opponents who are far weaker than him. They're not even remotely comparable, honestly.

Meanwhile, you still haven't provided a single adequate reason for Goku wanting to fight a bunch of mooks in a short 48-minute tournament where everyone's stamina dwindles by the minute. Doing something completely opposite to his character for the sake of some shallow win ratio is a textbook example of fanservice, which is basically what you're demanding.

Goku was treated horribly in the Universal Survival arc in the manga.
Add that to the list of direct consequences of Toyotaro totally rushing the ToP arc in the manga. :problem:

RE: Goku only concentrating on Jiren in the manga

I find it weird that in tournament that has incredibly strong fighters from over half a dozen universes that the only one that Goku figures is worth his time -- in the capacity of providing him a challenge -- is Jiren. I mean, not all the other fighters from the other universes are going to be a powerful as Jiren, but that doesn't exclude the possibility of them giving Goku a worthwhile fight.

If the main focus was going to be Goku fighting Jiren, then the Tournament of Power may as well have comprised only Universe 7 and Universe 11. I mean, what's the point of the having all the strongest fighters from 7 other universes if you're ultimately not going to use them even for the purposes of being obstacle for Goku to overcome? In hindsight, it makes the participation of the other universes (3, 4, 6, 9 & 10) in the Tournament of Power pretty meaningless. And makes the idea of the characters from the other universe being the strongest of their respective universe seem more like an Informed Attribute. Something that we're told, but never really shown.

I mean, this whole arc only happened because of Goku's desire to fight strong people from several other universes. And because of how Goku was only focused on one opponent from one universe 99% of the time, it makes his motivations seem hollow. Goku didn't even gain anything from Jiren stonewalling him for 90% of the time they fought as Ultra Instinct was birthed from a massive fluke based on the notion of Roshi basically telling Goku shit he already knew about how to move properly (that in itself is whole other major problem that I and several people on the forum have already covered in detail),

It's even more jarring that Goku would be solely focused on Jiren considering it's in a scenario where the fate of Goku's universe is at stake depending on how well he (and the rest of the main cast) perform in the Tournament Of Power itself. I would have would have been fine with this if there was some payoff for it, but there isn't. Because Freeza and #17 were really the characters who masterminded the elimination of Jiren.

So Goku goes into the Tournament Of Power and leaves it with nothing ventured and nothing gained. He didn't bother fighting another combatants from any other universes apart from those Universe 11 (of which 99% of that focus was on one fighter) and when Goku does become stronger, there's no pay off to it.
